Morning Musume.’26’s Sakurai Rio to Co-Host New NHK Show, Team Up with Oginoyagi’s Yahagi — 5ch: ‘Such a Sudden Offer’

The story

Morning Musume.’26’s Sakurai Rio will co-host NHK General TV’s special “Nippon Fukinikui Biru Meikan” (“Japan’s Hard-to-Clean Buildings Directory”), airing September 21, alongside Oginoyagi’s Yahagi Ken, according to the TV listings. The slot normally airs the drama “Butterfly Effect,” and it’s unclear whether this is a one-off or could become a regular series. On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, some tied the timing to rumors that Juice=Juice got cut from the Kohaku Uta Gassen (NHK’s New Year’s Eve song contest), speculating that “NHK may be shifting to favor Morning Musume.” Others pushed back, noting “you can’t expect good ratings from this,” leaving opinion split.

Nippon Fukinikui Biru Meikan — Shinjuku, Cocoon Tower 🈑

Japan is dotted with bold, distinctive buildings — but boy, do their windows look like a nightmare to clean. This daring show explores building appeal from a window-washer’s point of view. This time: that building that’s practically the symbol of West Shinjuku.

September 21 (Monday), 22:15–22:45, NHK General 1 / Tokyo

It doesn't say "Morning Musume.'26" in the listing, so it's probably someone else with the same name
6AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:04
So she landed an architecture-related gig?
Isn't she going to embarrass herself?
7AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:04
She's not in Juice=Juice, so I don't care even if I know who she is
9AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:05
Yahagi's on board
10AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:11
This slot usually airs Butterfly Effect, so it's not a regular show
11AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:17
It says "this time," so maybe they'll do a few more episodes?
13AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:21
So the Juice=Juice effect is even rubbing off on individual members of other groups now
15AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:25
Yep, Sakurai's face is right there in the digital TV guide
No mention of Morning Musume. though
16AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:25
Alright, here comes the copy-paste guy… oh, guess he's not showing up this time
19AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:27
I think it's basically settled that Juice=Juice got cut from Kohaku
So they're shifting things over instead
Uta Con featuring Morning Musume. and the rest is the same trend

Re: #19
That theory won't get any traction unless Oda's graduation concert ends up getting snubbed even worse than Juice=Juice
23AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:33
Re: #19
With Juice=Juice out, NHK's clearly starting to prioritize Morning Musume. now
20AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:28
Isn't Cocoon Tower just the Mode Gakuen building?
24AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:33
Re: #23
They're probably going to be shocked at how low Morning Musume.'s numbers actually are
39AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:38
Re: #24
Everyone already knows they don't pull ratings, lol
25AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:34
Seriously, start using Haru-san out there already
How long are they gonna keep holding her in reserve?
27AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:34
What's with this out-of-nowhere offer
32AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:35
Re: #27
Apparently Juice=Juice got cut from Kohaku
29AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:35
Rairii (Sakurai Rio) is so grown-up, it's almost too much
33AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:36
Re: #29
If only she could actually sing well too, she'd be unstoppable
31AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:35
Hope she does her homework before going on air
Though it's probably already been recorded by now
34AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:36
Haru-san's not chasing small-time gigs like this
She's laser-focused on landing something Chiikawa-related
37AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:37
It's kind of moving that Hello! Project is getting TV spots like this now
All thanks to Juice=Juice
40AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:38
Re: #37
I mean, if Juice=Juice — who's all over TV right now — got bad reviews, the whole of Hello! Project would take the hit together, so this is really thanks to Juice=Juice racking up goodwill
56AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:53
Re: #37
Juice=Juice flopped and is set to be cut from Kohaku
So the focus has shifted to Morning Musume. ahead of their 30th anniversary
38AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:38
Next up, it's Musume.'s turn
42AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:38
Re: #38
Doesn't look like there'll be a second round
43AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:38
Sakurai's speaking style really does suit hosting
44AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:39
Re: #43
Doesn't matter if she's suited for it when nobody's watching
47AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:42
Nobody even knows who Juice=Juice is
60AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:05
Re: #47
Sakurai Rio has fewer Instagram followers than Ishiyama Sakura, but she's the more well-known one?
48AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:43
Wouldn't Enaka have been the better pick?

Agreed
54AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:51
Kind of want them to aim for an occasional series like that container-opening show
But "hard to clean windows" is such a narrow angle even within architecture that they'll probably run out of material fast
Could easily end up being one of those cases where episode one is the best-of and there's no way to make a second
58AnonymousSep 16, 2026 07:59
Re: #54
The show Airi and Kiyozuka Shinya do also started as a one-off, but it turned into a goldmine of material and is now in its 6th year as a regular — so I guess it comes down to whether there's enough material
64AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:07
Re: #56
No way an agency that just got snubbed could shove an even less notable talent into a show
66AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:12
Re: #64
It's compensation for the snubbed agency

Background and Talking Points

“Nippon Fukinikui Biru Meikan” is an occasional NHK General TV series centered on architecture, and this broadcast slot is filling in for the regular drama “Butterfly Effect.” One caveat worth noting: the claim circulating in the thread that “Juice=Juice was cut from the Kohaku Uta Gassen” had not been officially announced by NHK as of September 16 — it remains fan speculation for now. TV appearance opportunities within Hello! Project swing significantly from year to year, so tying a single one-off special to any lasting shift in treatment may be premature. That said, the relative scarcity of terrestrial TV exposure under the Morning Musume.’26 name has been noted before, and whether this casting translates into more group-wide exposure will depend on the show’s future track record.
