  • Typhoon Set to Slam Japan’s Silver Week Holiday — 5ch Users Brace for ‘Guaranteed Transit Chaos’

5ch’s late-night “Anything Goes Live” board (Nandemo Jikkyō) is a freewheeling chat space with no fixed topic, and tonight was no different, with posters riffing on whatever came to mind. The biggest draw was the approaching typhoon — news that its central pressure had deepened to 965 hPa sparked worries about its impact on Silver Week (Japan’s late-September holiday stretch) travel and transit. Other threads covered the mala tang (spicy Sichuan soup) and tapioca drinks trending with women, a streamer said to have pulled in 3.6 million yen in Super Chat donations over just five days of broadcasting, and a small debate over why lookism is thriving in an age that supposedly champions human rights and equality. All told, it was a night of scattered, all-over-the-place chatter.

    Background and Key Points

Unlike a breaking-news board, 5ch’s “Anything Goes Live” (Nandemo Jikkyō) is a space where participants post nonstop casual chatter with no set topic, and this thread wasn’t tracking any single incident either. A typhoon’s central pressure of 965 hPa is close to the “very strong” threshold, so it’s a natural, seasonal reaction that posters worried about the storm’s effect on Silver Week (Japan’s late-September holiday stretch) travel and transit. On the other hand, the figure of 3.6 million yen in live-stream donations attributed to Daisuke Hori wasn’t reported firsthand in this thread — it came secondhand via a link to another thread, and hasn’t been verified against a primary source. The exchange about lookism likewise never went beyond the general theory that “the louder human rights get championed, the stronger the backlash toward appearance-based judgment” — it wasn’t a discussion naming any specific person or group. On the whole, this piece isn’t building toward a single conclusion; it’s best read as a snapshot of the freewheeling chatter typical of a late-night message board.

  • Chinese Visitor (18): “University of Tokyo Mock Exam Was Way Too Easy” — Sparks Academic Comparison Debate

An image apparently showing an 18-year-old Chinese visitor to Japan posting that a University of Tokyo (Todai) mock exam was “way too easy” was shared on the 5ch board “Nandemo Jikkyo G,” sparking a wave of discussion. In the thread, some posters shared firsthand accounts backing up the high academic level of China’s top students, while others pointed out that a mock-exam ranking alone only reflects strength in a few particular subjects. The debate spread to cover the gap between Tsinghua/Peking University and the University of Tokyo in the THE World University Rankings 2026, the cutoff line for making Japan’s Math Olympiad team, and the difference in Nobel Prize counts — with some even questioning Japan’s exam culture itself, saying it “puts the Todai entrance exam on too much of a pedestal.”

    1AnonymousSep 15, 2026 23:21
Apparently his reaction was basically, "So this is the level of Japan's top university exam?"

    12AnonymousSep 15, 2026 23:23
I get that China has a huge population and fierce competition, but is the gap really wide enough that Todai would feel "easy"?

Basic point here — doesn't matter if it's China, South Korea, North Korea, Mongolia, or Bhutan.
If you're genuinely that country's top talent, the entrance exam for Todai or Stanford is going to be easy.
    13AnonymousSep 15, 2026 23:24
Yeah, there's just no beating their top tier.

If he's serious competition in China and can score an A around the Beijing area, of course he'd get an A on a Todai mock exam.
Ranking 24th in math means he's nowhere close to making Japan's Math Olympiad team — not even a near miss.

He'd finish the Math II/B section of the Center Test in under 30 minutes and solve quadratic function problems without even drawing the graph.
He had about half his time left over on English, chemistry, and physics too.
    123AnonymousSep 15, 2026 23:51
    Re: #70
This guy isn't even top-tier though.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The “Todai mock exam” behind this story is a nationwide practice exam run by university prep schools, widely used as a benchmark for university entrance-exam difficulty. The World University Rankings (THE) cited in the thread use their own evaluation criteria, factoring in things like research citation counts and international outlook — the fact that Tsinghua and Peking University rank above the University of Tokyo is specific to this particular index, and rankings from other bodies like QS or ARWU can place the schools differently. On other measures, such as Nobel Prize counts, Japan comes out ahead, so which university comes out “on top” depends heavily on which yardstick you use. The thread’s discussion expanded from one person’s personal experience into a comparison of entire national education levels, but since mock-exam results depend heavily on a given test-taker’s strong subjects and the exam’s scope, it’s difficult to draw conclusions about an entire education system from a single case.

  • Ami Tanimoto’s solo Kyoto trip post sparks ‘is she loaded?’ buzz over her Green Car ride and luxury hotel

Hello! Project member Ami Tanimoto posted photos from a solo trip to Kyoto on Instagram, captioned as a “summer memory.” On the 5ch forum, the sight of her riding the Shinkansen’s Green Car (first-class) and apparently staying at the upscale Granvia Kyoto hotel touched off speculation about where her money comes from. At the same time, cooler-headed posters pointed out that the discounted “Puratto Kodama” travel package can make even Green Car seats cheap, while others compared the trip to past solo-travel posts by fellow members and recalled her earlier comment about splitting meal costs with her family — sending the discussion off in several directions.

    Background and Key Points

The “Puratto Kodama” package mentioned in the thread is a discounted Shinkansen-plus-hotel bundle sold by JR Tokai Tours, and booking the Green Car through it can end up cheaper than even a standard reserved seat on the Nozomi. Because of that, a fair number of replies pushed back on the simplistic “Green Car equals big earner” assumption as jumping to conclusions. There’s no way to confirm whether a celebrity’s “solo trip” is truly solo, or where the money for lodging actually comes from, beyond what she herself shares — so most of the thread amounts to speculation with no factual backing. The fact that posters brought up other members who’ve posted similar solo-trip photos in the past also shows how this kind of post tends to stir up the same debate again and again.

  • Hello! Project Unveils School-Uniform Costumes — 5ch: ‘Reirei Actually Pulled It Off’

A thread went up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board after a Hello! Project-affiliated group unveiled new costumes styled like school uniforms. The thread’s title, “Juice Juice Girls’ Academy,” is a pun on the group’s name — a wordplay style commonly used on this board. While the uniform-style outfits drew teasing comments like “What kind of hostess club is this?” and “I used to go to Shinjuku Girls’ Academy all the time,” there were also plenty of positive reactions toward individual members like Reirei and Yagi Shiori. Comparisons to the past costume styles of ℃-ute, Morning Musume, and Berryz Koubou also became a talking point, with some posts noting the contrast between a “matching” concept and an “individually optimized” one.

What stands out in this thread is how opinions split over the school-uniform-style costumes. As noted in post #108, ℃-ute and Morning Musume often went with a “matching” approach where every member wore an identical costume, whereas Berryz Koubou reportedly took an “individually optimized” approach, styling the look differently for each member — and which lineage this new costume follows has become a minor point of debate. Also, the thread title’s hiragana spelling of “juice juice” is a board-specific joke poking fun at the group’s name; taken out of context it might seem abrupt, but this kind of wordplay is common on this board. Note that posts amounting to baseless rumors about specific members were excluded from this roundup, and only officially confirmed information is covered here.

  • Man in Row Behind Claims Cheki Prize After Winning Seat Turns Out Empty at Satoyoshi Uta’s Birthday Event, Sparking Controversy

During a seat-raffle cheki (Polaroid photo) giveaway at Satoyoshi Uta’s birthday event, it was reported on 5ch that the winning seat number was actually empty, yet a middle-aged man sitting one row behind it accepted the prize instead. Some commenters have condemned this as fraud, while others suggest it may have simply been an honest mix-up about which seat was which, leaving opinions divided. Some posters also shared past experiences of similar confusion, such as mixing up the letters “J” and “K,” or rows “M” and “N,” and mistakenly believing they had won.

When it's read out loud, rows M and N get mixed up easily too — I once saw someone think they'd won because of that. Back then winners picked up their prize at the exit, so a staff member told them, 'The winner was row M, you're row N, so this isn't yours' — I just watched that go down out of the corner of my eye as I walked past.

Background and Key Issues in This Discussion

Seat-raffle cheki giveaways like this one are a common fixture not just at Hello! Project events but across the idol scene generally, and it’s not unusual for organizers to have no clear policy for what happens when the winning seat turns out empty. When winning numbers are read aloud or announced over a PA system, mix-ups involving similar-sounding labels — like “J” and “K,” or rows “M” and “N” — are easy to make, and posts #70 and #88 in the thread include firsthand accounts of similar confusion at past events. Opinions in the thread split between those warning that publicly branding someone a cheat on the spot is risky, and those arguing that the bystanders who silently watched it happen share the blame. Worth noting: aside from the man himself and event staff, there’s no way to confirm for certain whether this was a genuine seating mistake or a deliberate act. The debate also touched on a broader fandom question — whether to call something out in the moment versus posting about it afterward to avoid a confrontation.

  • The Blue Hearts’ ‘Strongest Song’ Poll: ‘Blue Sky’ Narrowly Leads

A thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyō G” board asked posters to each name their favorite Blue Hearts song to crown the ultimate best track. Titles like “Tsuki no Bakugekiki” (“Bomber of the Moon”), “Shōnen no Uta” (“Boy’s Poem”), and “Navigator” poured in one after another, though the thread repeatedly had to correct posts whose lyrics or titles actually turned out to be from The High-Lows or The Cro-Magnons instead. The thread starter kept a running tally, and by the late stages it came down to a tight race between “Aozora” (“Blue Sky”) with 8 votes and “Sen no Violin” (“A Thousand Violins”) with 6. The conversation also drifted into side topics like frustration over the band’s music still not being on streaming services and opinions on The Cro-Magnons’ sound.

    Background and Key Points

The Blue Hearts formed in 1985 and disbanded in 1995. After the breakup, vocalist Hiroto Komoto and guitarist Masatoshi Mashima (“Marcy”) went on to form THE HIGH-LOWS, and later THE CRO-MAGNONS. This is why the thread repeatedly saw corrections like “that’s actually The High-Lows” and “that one’s The High-Lows too” — a sign of how easily songs from the three bands blend together in fans’ memories. The Blue Hearts’ music has also long been unavailable on major streaming services, which likely explains the post about buying a CD-ripping device just to get their songs onto an iPhone. While one poster suggested The Cro-Magnons seem to “avoid writing songs that really hit you,” no clear consensus was reached — it remained just one person’s take.

    Background and points of debate

“Miyo-chan’s Engawa” is a regular Hello! Project radio show, and since this episode was the finale, Miyo Hirai is thought to have opened up more personally than usual. BEYOOOOONDS has a culture that places weight on “nenji” (seniority ranking within the group based on join date), and Hirai is on the earlier-joining, senior side. The thread’s disagreement centered on whether to see Hirai, a senior member, being spoiled by junior member “Hana” as heartwarming, or as underwhelming for someone “not carrying her seniority,” with comparisons drawn to other members like Fukumura Mizuki. Meanwhile, theories floated in the thread — such as the idea that “Hana has a thing for fair-skinned members” — are just speculation from posters, not something Hana herself has confirmed, and should be read with that caveat.

*This article is composed as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “Miyo Hirai: “Miimi’s ‘Mii, mou ii mon~’ has long since been found out by Hanamano Yuna, and Hana spoils me like crazy for it”.”

  • Hello! Project’s member-color picks spark debate — 5ch: “There’s no way Murata should be pink”

Hello! Project has a long-standing custom of assigning newly joined members whatever color happens to be open at the time. On the 5ch “Hello! Project” board, a thread was launched questioning the agency’s sense of taste in color assignments after both Shimoidani Yukiho and Murata Yui were given pink-toned member colors. Posters pointed out that other colors — white, green, light blue — should have still been available back then, while others argued a member’s skin tone and overall vibe ought to take priority over anything else. Still others took a cooler view, arguing that popularity, not color, is really what shapes a member’s image. The talk eventually spread into how colors have been decided in the past and whether future re-assignments might be coming.

    1AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:30
I think part of why she's not popular is that her member color just doesn't suit her — that's a real factor.
    3AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:32
They just gave her the same color as Tamenaga so a single, solo color wouldn't expose how unpopular she is.
    5AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:33
They rushed to fill the pink slot, so by the time Nagano Momoha joined, pink was already taken. Incompetent, useless agency.
    14AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:40
    Re: #5
    Exactly that.
Honestly the whole thing is just dumb, including that part.
Pink especially is a color that only suits certain personalities.
Like Onoda or Kubota — they fit the image perfectly.
    6AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:34
To begin with, it's weird that Aroi even got promoted in the first place.
    8AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:35
They should've just kept pink open for Nagano.
    9AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:35
Not being able to give pink to Mochi is genuinely painful.
    10AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:38
There were quite a few people saying Goto — who was pink back in her Oha Girl days (a kids' morning-TV idol unit) — might end up with a deeper pink.
    16AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:42
    Re: #10
Goto's the ace member, so light blue is fine for her — it suits her anyway.
    11AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:38
Isn't Nagano also kind of tan? Pink doesn't really suit her either, does it?
    12AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:39
I recall hearing that with Murata, pink was just whatever was left over at the end. Is that actually true?
    13AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:40
This is the same agency that once tried to make Matsunaga pink.
    18AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:43
With 11 members I get that handing out colors gets tricky, but light blue could've worked for Murata too, I think.
    No idea about Moimoi though.

When the Hinas joined, Niinuma was still around and already had light blue, remember?
    19AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:43
Member color doesn't matter at all if you're popular — any color works. It's fans of unpopular members who tend to obsess over it.
    20AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:43
If Sasaki hadn't been around, Goto might've ended up yellow too. But light blue suits her, so it's fine as is.
    21AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:43
Nah, white was definitely the right call for Lesser.
    22AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:44
There are colors that don't bother you and colors that do.
Pink is definitely one that not everyone can pull off.
    23AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:44
At the very least, I want red reserved for members who actually look good in it.
Yamazaki, Yonemura, and Kawashima were spot-on picks.
    25AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:46
Really looking forward to seeing who becomes Tsubaki's next red.
    Better be someone ace-level.
    26AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:46
ANGERME's current red is scheduled to graduate next.
    27AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:47
Aren't all the members with 'Momo' or 'peach' in their name pink anyway?
    29AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:48
Goto listed white, black, and light blue as her favorite colors back when she was a trainee, so light blue makes sense in a way.
Shimoidani, though — purple tones would've suited her, and purple was also the color of Shimakura, the member she looked up to.
    31AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:48
She didn't give off that vibe when she joined, but the way Itsuking carries herself now, red might've suited her too.
Honestly, it's a waste that her color is nearly identical to Yokaze's.
    32AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:48
Maybe they should've changed the member color when Sasaki graduated?
Moimoi is technically treated as the dance member, after all.
    33AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:49
So red's opening up in ANGERME too?
    Let's make Tamura red.
    38AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:50
    Re: #33
Black Panther-chan already looks awfully purple, but going full purple would overlap too much with Meimei — so red is honestly a real option.
    34AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:49
Murata's got a cool, blue-based skin tone ("burube" in Japanese beauty-speak) anyway, so light blue would've been fine.
    66AnonymousSep 15, 2026 19:11
    Re: #34
    Exactly this.
And then Doipu could've had light pink.
They really didn't need to lock in member colors before Kiso graduated.
    35AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:49
Nagano's outfit at her first birthday event was a pink dress, so everyone was like, "yeah… of course it is."
    36AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:49
I want them to change King to red.
    63AnonymousSep 15, 2026 19:09
    Re: #36
Honestly the two yellows look way too similar — maybe one of them will get switched?
    37AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:49
They're just slotting in whatever color's available at the time.
If a member happens to get her favorite color, that's pure luck.
    43AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:53
    Re: #37
Even so, at least put some thought into it.
White, pink, and green were all open, and there's no way Murata should've gotten pink.
    Light blue was available too.
    39AnonymousSep 15, 2026 18:50
Itsuki-chan would've been fine with orange.
    62AnonymousSep 15, 2026 19:09

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“Member color” is a custom within Hello! Project and idol culture more broadly, where each member is assigned an official color used for goods and penlights. It’s often decided simply by whichever color happens to be open when a member joins, and the member’s own preference isn’t necessarily the priority. In the thread, opinions split between whether a color actually suits a member’s skin tone and overall vibe, and the more cynical view that colors are just assigned based on whatever’s available — both are ultimately speculation, since the agency has never published its actual criteria. Pink is considered a popular color, which means candidates for it often overlap, and cases like this one — where several members who joined around the same time end up with near-identical colors — have repeatedly become a point of debate.

※This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “What kind of taste does an agency have, giving pink-toned member colors to both Shimoidani Yukiho and Murata Yui?“

    Background and Talking Points

“60TRY-bu” is a weeknight-evening program on Radio Nippon (JORF), and on this occasion Okamura Homare appeared live as a special pinch-hitter host. As comment 13 — “Wait, is it Morito On again? Thought she was just supposed to be filling in — I’m confused” — shows, even listeners themselves often can’t tell who’s the regular host and who’s standing in, making the show’s lineup hard to follow without background knowledge. The thread centers on live commentary, alternating between official announcements from the show’s X (Twitter) account and posters’ running reactions to what’s being said on air. Rather than her rapport with guest Yoshida Rion, what draws the most attention is Okamura’s reaction whenever the nickname “Rairii” comes up — though the thread never explains who this refers to, which is hard to parse without familiarity with Hello! Project’s insider nicknames. The late-thread detour into scam emails impersonating credit-card fraud alerts is a typical live-thread tangent and should be read as unrelated to the actual broadcast content.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “■ Okamura Homare ■ Radio Nippon “60TRY-bu, Guest: Yoshida Rion” ■ 18:00–21:00 ■“.

  • 37kg Woman’s Claim ‘I Could Beat an Average Man at Wrestling’ Splits Opinion — 5ch: ‘One Grab of the Collar and It’s Over’

A post on X (formerly Twitter) claiming, “I’m 154cm and 37kg, but since I do wrestling, I could beat an average man as long as the size gap is within 30kg,” was picked up on 5ch’s Nandemo Jikkyo G board. The poster included a photo standing next to a 102kg man to argue that weight alone doesn’t tell the whole story. The thread brought up real Olympic champions like Tadahiro Nomura, Saori Yoshida, and Kaori Icho, discussing how a difference of just a few kilograms can decide a match in weight-class combat sports, as well as the differences between a street fight and a sanctioned bout — opinions were split over whether technique or sheer size advantage would win out.

    3AnonymousSep 15, 2026 16:43
I don't really know much about this, but if there's like a 30kg difference, can technique actually make up for that?
    8AnonymousSep 15, 2026 16:45
    Re: #3
No way. In combat sports, even a 3kg difference changes your weight class.

There was that viral story in the UK about a junior high girl who'd been doing jiu-jitsu for years — she got attacked out of nowhere by some huge guy, broke his ankle with a jiu-jitsu move, and he ended up getting arrested.

In competition maybe, but in an anything-goes street fight, dropping to the ground right away? Fighters keep saying over and over that's just idiotic.

Big guys who actually train — judo club, rugby club, sumo wrestlers — those guys are genuinely strong.

But your average out-of-shape otaku fat guy is genuinely weak… A big guy who doesn't play any sport has no stamina or fighting spirit, they're out of breath in like 10 seconds. Just supporting their own body weight is already their limit.

If he's got low body fat at that size, that's already way outside the average build anyway; and if he's got a soft, out-of-shape build instead, he probably has no stamina either.

Also, futsal wrecks your knees, so he should quit that. I used to be in the soccer club and have done karate ever since — once you hit a certain age, if you don't cut weight, moving hard will blow out your knees or ankles.

Blowing out your knees is just the beginning — I've torn my ACL in both knees.

He's obviously just an average guy, however you look at it. If that's not "average," then what the hell am I lol. There's no way I could run a marathon, but at the gym I run 12km/h for 30-40 minutes. My knees and back are totally fine.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Weight classes in combat sports are built around the idea that even a few kilograms of difference can drastically shift the balance of advantage, and the point raised on the thread — “even a 3kg difference changes your weight class” — is grounded in that very system. That said, the original poster herself limited her claim from the start to opponents within roughly a 30kg gap, saying she couldn’t win against anyone heavier than that. The comparison that came up later in the thread, against a man over 100kg, may actually fall outside the “average man” range she originally meant. It’s also worth noting that Olympic gold medalists like Saori Yoshida and Kaori Icho tend to be smaller in build than the average woman, which makes it hard to judge real fighting ability from body weight numbers alone. The difference between a sanctioned match and a street fight — no rules against fouls, hard pavement, the risk of bystanders jumping in — is a point combat-sports veterans often raise too. Ultimately, there’s almost no real-world precedent testing whether technique alone can overcome a large size gap, so it’s worth keeping in mind that this whole debate remains speculation on the internet.
