Hello! Project’s ‘Cynical Type’ Members Get Called Out on 5ch

The story

A thread titled “Are there any ‘cynical types’ (reisho-kei) in Hello! Project?” popped up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. “Cynical type” refers to someone who looks down with a smirk on fans or members who take things seriously. Names like Suzu Hashisako, Fukumura, and Ise came up one after another in the thread. At the same time, plenty of pushback followed for the members named, with comments like “she doesn’t do that” and “she’s actually more passionate than anyone,” splitting opinion right down the middle over who’s really the cynical type. Some also pointed out that a mood of “being cynical is uncool” has spread among Hello! Project fans since the Juice=Juice era, making this more than just a simple personality debate.

Now that I think about it, not many actually come to mind.
3AnonymousSep 9, 2026 16:38
It pissed me off that Fukumura was smirking at Rairii.
5AnonymousSep 9, 2026 16:39
Re: #3
I never did that?
4AnonymousSep 9, 2026 16:39
But aren't all otaku the total opposite of cynical types anyway?
68AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:59
Re: #4
Someone like this
10AnonymousSep 9, 2026 16:42
The 9th and 10th gens basically rose to the top by playing it cool and cynical, honestly.
15AnonymousSep 9, 2026 16:46
That's not cynical type, that's delusional-with-way-too-high-self-esteem type
Starting with Kudo and Ishida.
22AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:05
Ise, who got flamed for being cynical during the Mainichi award race
23AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:08
There are definitely types who don't take the segments seriously.
24AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:11
Re: #23
Meaning what, exactly?
25AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:12
Re: #4
Would you mind not lumping me in with them without asking?
27AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:17
Re: #26
Ria-chan's the total opposite — she's way too intense, total chuunibyou (edgy-teen syndrome).
28AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:22
Juice=Juice members when they're talking to Arisawa
80AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:41
Re: #28
That's them being nervous, not being cynical.
32AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:26
Ise is so much the type that Ise is the only one I can think of.
33AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:27
Pfft, 'happy,' lol
Rairii's just shy around people, isn't she?
34AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:28
The type who's happy when she loses the Hina Fest lottery
36AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:29
Why?! Reirei's a passionate woman!
37AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:30
With Ikuta gone too, and the mood that 'being cynical is uncool' having spread since the Juice era,
overt cynicism has disappeared.
But there might still be members who are secretly cynical deep down.
38AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:33
Reirei looks like the cynical type but she's actually positive on the inside.
39AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:33
Cynical means someone who mocks people who are seriously giving it their all, right?
So that's Fukumura and Hashisako.
40AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:33
The first one that came to mind was Suzu Hashisako.
57AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:44
Re: #40
Hashisako genuinely cares about her fans, so why her?

Re: #57
First time seeing this — if it weren't unpopular-Hashisako, she'd have gotten slammed even harder.
41AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:34
Haru-san looks like a Chiikawa character too, but she grits her teeth and holds back tears.
42AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:34
The ones that come to mind instantly are Ise and Fukumura.
44AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:35
Isn't Hashisako just not the cynical type?
If Inoue Rei were the cynical type, she wouldn't be doing beatboxing.
46AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:36
Ocha does have that vibe
Kind of like old-school Angerme.
49AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:39
How is Reirei the cynical type at all?
If anything she's fired up.
52AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:41
Re: #49
She was bawling on stage, after all.
50AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:40
Hashisako does have a bit of a playing-it-cool side.
She's probably genuinely serious behind the scenes, but
maybe she just likes acting cool? I think it works against her.
58AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:45
Re: #50
If she were serious, her skills would've improved by now.
60AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:48
Re: #6
Isn't Ise actually pretty passionate?
65AnonymousSep 9, 2026 17:55
The original Juice=Juice members
Especially Miyamoto Karin.
72AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:06
The genuinely serious one is Yonemura.
77AnonymousSep 9, 2026 18:19
Re: #72
That's on Yonemura's current environment, isn't it?
Well, she's an adult now so she can't just blame her environment forever, but originally she pushed past her parents' objections and left Aichi to become an idol.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

“Cynical type” (reisho-kei) is originally internet slang for an attitude of looking down with detachment on people who take things seriously or on passionate fan culture. In this thread, too, the term had no fixed definition — the nuance shifted from post to post, ranging from “mocking segments/projects” to “testing fans’ patience” to “simply being shy and coming across as aloof.” As for the members named, such as Suzu Hashisako, Ise, and Fukumura, defending fans pushed back with claims like “she’s serious behind the scenes” and “she’s actually more passionate than anyone,” so it’s worth noting that outside impressions don’t necessarily match who a person really is. This is ultimately just image-based speculation on 5ch, not confirmed fact.
