Juice=Juice Songs: Current Lineup or Original Lineup? Fans Clash Over Which Version to Stream

From our other sites

The story

On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, a debate broke out over which member lineup’s vocal version fans should pick when streaming Juice=Juice songs. Using tracks like “Bitansan” and “C&C” as examples, the thread split between veteran fans who prize recordings from the original-lineup era and newer fans who back the 2023 versions sung by the group’s current members. Posts kept circling back to the question of which approach actually shows more respect for the current lineup, and many argued that the better-fitting vocal version differs from song to song — making it more than a simple old-guard-vs-new-guard spat.

So glad a lot of people are putting together streaming playlists of the fall tour setlist, but throwing in the 2023 versions of Bitansan and C&C… that's seriously just no respect for the original lineup, or something like that… (self-deleting tweet)
13AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:05
If it's a setlist from the current lineup, isn't the 2023 version actually the better fit?
14AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:06
For a tour playlist, that's only natural.
17AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:07
Isn't the Juice=Juice original lineup Danbara, Inoue, Kudo, and Matsunaga?
18AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:09
The battle between original-lineup diehards and the "glam-pic newbies" (fan slang, roughly "fans drawn in by flashy, filtered photos") will clearly keep raging on…

I wanted to prep for the Juice=Juice show, so I've been digging through old songs, but it's all voices I don't recognize and the songs just won't stick in my head at all (T_T)

Re: #18
Same goes for this thread, honestly — at this point the word "respect" itself feels gross and totally beside the point.
The way the glam-pic newbies relate to the original lineup isn't even disrespect, it's flat-out indifference.
19AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:10
What's even wrong with that? I'm at the point where I want every single track on streaming re-sung by the current members.
21AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:18
Re: #19
Exactly this.
I want every song from the early days re-recorded.
23AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:20
The idiot original-lineup diehards just keep crawling out of the woodwork.
25AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:21
The idiot Oyaki (Morning Musume fan nickname) are hard at work stirring up conflict again today

Doing that isn't going to bring Morning Musume back up, you know

Whatever your beloved Kitagawa screwed up has nothing to do with Juice

Morning Musume slid down all on its own

Re: #25
Exactly this

They've been taking it out on Juice the whole time lol
41AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:23
Re: #25
The "Oyaki" are just anti-fan trolls, you idiot — don't go pinning it on us Musume। fans, trash
26AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:26
There's no such thing as these "fake-buzz glam-pic newbies." If they existed, venues would be packed with young fans — but the crowd at shows hasn't changed at all, has it?
28AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:27
Re: #26
It's changed a ton, actually
The old guys aren't even 40% of the crowd anymore.

Re: #26
There's no way someone who's spent all their time on Ookami (an old-school idol-fan message board that predates this one) knows the live scene better than people who actually go to shows — so armchair fans should zip it.
31AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:40
Fiesta sounds way better in the current-member version too, honestly.
33AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:42
Re: #31
No way

The old songs only work because of Kanazawa's voice.
40AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:22
Choi-chan is a totally different song depending on whether the beatboxing part is in it or not.

Oni Yamada<
I listen to Hello! Project sometimes on the unlimited streaming plan.
And when I do, stuff like the 5-member-era version comes on,
right in the middle of "Romance" or whatever,
and listening to it I just think, man, I wish I could hear the current members sing this.
I've ended up wishing they'd re-record everything.
45AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:29
I'm an original-lineup diehard myself, but obviously the 2023 version is way better lol
47AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:30
Re-record everything AND shoot all-new music videos for everything
That's a real business opportunity right there.
48AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:32
Re: #1
You won't even show your real name, let alone your Twitter handle — so who even are you, lol?
Whose fan are you anyway?

Must be rough, living your life running and hiding.
49AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:33
Whose fan, huh?

Well, pretty much guaranteed you're a fan of a member who bailed partway through, right? lol
That's why you hate the 2023 version lol
50AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:35
My bad
Not "pretty much guaranteed" — make that "absolutely certain."
51AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:36
The fact that people watch the YouTube live videos more than they stream the songs is because nobody actually cares about the original lineup.
52AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:40
I always think this, but the real "original members" are the ones who've been there since the start AND are still in the group. Anyone who quit is a former original member — people should really use that distinction correctly.
53AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:47
Re-recording would be a hassle, sure, but they could just put out live audio instead, like the Pia Arena show or the QoH release.
54AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:49
There are no original members left anymore.
Yaguchi Mari was never in Juice=Juice! Hey, Yaguchi fans.
This isn't Morning Musume., so that logic doesn't fly here.
"Original members" and "early members" are not the same thing.
To begin with, there were only 6 original members in the early lineup.
57AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:53
Bitansan, I get it — that song doesn't work without Inaba's voice.
59AnonymousOct 21, 2026 10:10
The version matters a huge amount — like, listen to the "Ultimate Version" of Pura Pura and you'll hear someone singing who shouldn't even be there, and it short-circuits your brain.
60AnonymousOct 21, 2026 11:02
I don't get the logic by which this adds up to "no respect."
61AnonymousOct 21, 2026 11:08
Classic "Mominofu" move, writing a whole article based on pure speculation lol (a site known for clickbait, speculation-driven stories)

Background and Key Points of This Debate

This kind of clash tends to recur in Hello! Project groups that have been active a long time and gone through lineup changes. Because older recordings still contain the parts sung by members who have since left, a gap in sentiment easily opens up between fans who want to hear “today’s Juice=Juice” when streaming songs or listening to tour setlists, and fans who believe the work should be preserved as it originally was, founding members’ voices included. Even within the thread, the scope of the term “original members” kept shifting — some used it to mean only the six members present at formation, others used it more broadly for anyone who was in the group before leaving — and that inconsistency in usage only made the clash easier to see. The mention of a related thread also suggests this isn’t a one-off dispute but a topic that has flared up repeatedly before.
