  • ANGERME Fans Vow Boycott Until Agency Stops Overpushing Juice=Juice — 5ch: “I’m Not Showing Up to Shows”

On a 5ch thread (Japan’s largest anonymous message board, the successor to 2channel) where Hello! Project fans gather, a poster claiming to be an ANGERME fan declared a boycott of the group’s management agency, vowing not to attend any more “genba”* (fan slang for live shows/events) until the company stops its “gori-oshi”* — aggressively over-promoting — of labelmates Juice=Juice. The complaint stems from a perceived imbalance: Juice=Juice has reportedly been favored lately with TV appearances and larger Christmas-event venues, while ANGERME’s own tour has been playing to visibly empty seats. The thread quickly filled with pushback, with several posters pointing out that ANGERME itself went through its own heavily-promoted era in the past — turning the discussion into a broader argument over which Hello! Project group actually gets the star treatment.

From an ANGERME wota* (idol-fan slang for "otaku") to the sh*tty agency:
As long as you keep hard-pushing 'More-mi'* (a mocking nickname for Juice=Juice), I'm not setting foot at a single show — so heads up.
    2Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:04:46.97
ANGERME had its own era of being relentlessly pushed too, you know.
Or is it still going on?
    4Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:06:51.90
Sorry, but was there ever a time ANGERME was actually a big seller?
    6Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:07:30.12
So what if one single guy stops showing up?
This just ends with a 'huh, okay' and nothing more.
    7Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:07:39.22
    Hey, sh*tty agency —
is it really fine that hard-pushing Juice
    is leaving ANGERME's halls empty?
    8Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:07:57.37
Did the hard-push era for 'Oinaisa'* (an unclear nickname, possibly referring to a past ANGERME member or era) just get memory-holed?
    Convenient how selective that is.
    10Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:08:28.14
Forget all that, go do something about Musume.* (shorthand for Morning Musume) instead.
    11Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:08:47.31
You never actually went to shows in the first place — you're a 'zaitaku'* (home-based fan who never attends events) to begin with.
    13Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:09:11.63
It's not just Juice fans —
Tsubaki Factory, BEYOOOOONDS, and OCHA NORMA fans all think the same thing:
it's such a waste that ANGERME plays half-empty halls all over the place.
    14Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:09:20.64
I wish the agency would just put ANGERME wotas out of their misery already
    — make the brave call.
    15Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:10:54.31
This right here is exactly why people avoid ANGERME.
    18Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:13:27.53
Do ANGERME wotas seriously think it never happened that they got handed an oversized hall for the fall tour — a textbook hard-push if there ever was one?
    45Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:42:56.80
    Re: #18
Because they genuinely believe the empty halls are happening despite NOT being hard-pushed.
    19Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:13:29.95
Do you have any idea how much red ink ANGERME has cost the agency?
    20Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:13:52.19
Honestly, isn't this tour basically the agency 'wakarase'-ing* (fan slang for punishing someone into 'understanding their place') the ANGERME members?
    21Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:14:02.82
So that's why ANGERME's shows are empty.
    What conviction.
    23Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:15:06.34
They only got on Venue101 as a tie-in booking* ("bater," a package deal riding on another act's contract) with Juice,
and before that they'd never even appeared on NHK's Shibuya no Oto — so this was their first time in that slot in 12 years.
No way you can call that 'not being sidelined.'

    Re: #23

Juice's own stage was dead empty, so what else could they do?
    24Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:15:14.02
If anything Juice isn't being pushed hard ENOUGH —
they can't even get booked into the right-sized venues.
    68Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:47:31.68
    Re: #24
That's because they were unpopular in the past.
    26Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:16:16.52
Realistically, handing Juice every single one of ANGERME's venues still wouldn't be enough.
Be grateful you even get to run a half-empty tour at all.
    73Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:48:27.04
    Re: #26
Juice had fewer hall bookings up to now BECAUSE they were running losses, lol
    28Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:17:22.24
If OP quits being a fan, ANGERME's down to like 5 wotas total.
    31Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:20:57.95
'I'm boycotting ANGERME until you stop pushing Juice=Juice'
    — so the 'wolves'* (a nickname for ANGERME's fanbase) have finally come to this.
    32Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:23:44.85
    Just treat everyone equally.

You don't have to push ANGERME, just stop freezing them out.

How much longer are you gonna keep 'wota-nagashi'-ing* (funneling fans from one group toward another)?

I only care about ANGERME, there's no way I'm getting funneled anywhere else.

Sideline ANGERME and I'm gone — canceling my fan club membership too!
    33Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:24:55.12
The Christmas event hall is the same size as Lord Juice's, lol
Bigger than Lady Morning Musume's even, lol
How much more favoritism do you need?! And they don't even sell tickets!
Meanwhile everyone else keeps selling out because their venues are too small.
    34Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:30:34.04
Ah, so THAT'S why the ANGERME tour is so empty.
    37Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:34:28.40
ANGERME wotas really are like their 'keepers'* (self-deprecating idol-fan slang, likening fans to pet owners) — always quick to publicly air their feelings.
    38Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:35:09.48
Why does ANGERME have so many fans like this?
    41Anonymous2026/09/27 (Sun) 13:38:40.15
    Re: #38
    Because it's ANGERME.

    Background and Key Points

Hello! Project runs several idol groups in parallel at any given time — currently including Morning Musume., ANGERME, Juice=Juice, Tsubaki Factory, BEYOOOOONDS, and OCHA NORMA — and disputes over which group gets TV slots, cross-group collaborations, or larger tour venues have flared up among fans periodically for years. As several posters in the thread note, ANGERME itself went through a period of being the group accused of receiving preferential “gori-oshi” treatment, leading some to frame this boycott as simply a reversal of roles. It’s worth flagging that claims in the thread about “empty halls” and the agency “running losses” are not official figures — they reflect individual posters’ impressions and secondhand claims on an anonymous board, not disclosed ticket sales or financial data from the talent agency. Likewise, the “boycott” is the stated position of a single anonymous poster; nothing in this thread confirms it reflects an organized fan movement.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “[Sad News] An ANGERME fan declares a boycott until the agency stops overpushing Juice — also hurls abuse at the agency.”

  • Palworld pop-up store drops ticket requirement — 5ch: ‘More crowded at the Pokémon Center lol’

A pop-up store for the game Palworld became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board after it abruptly scrapped its planned entry-ticket system and switched to open admission for anyone. In the thread, the theory that “maybe not enough customers showed up” spread as users debated why tickets were no longer needed, and the discussion turned into a comparison between photos posted from the venue and how crowded Pokémon Centers tend to be. The exchange put a spotlight on how attendance is trending at merchandise events for popular IPs.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Merchandise events typically hand out entry tickets to prevent chaos from attendance exceeding expectations, so when tickets suddenly become unnecessary, it’s often because turnout fell short of projections. The thread split between those who saw this change as “proof nobody showed up” and those who chalked it up to “just a system glitch that forced an abrupt change in operations.” The venue photos posted only capture a specific moment in time, and crowd levels can vary depending on conditions — right after opening versus just before closing, for instance — so judging total attendance from photos alone may be premature. The Pokémon Center photos used for comparison could also be from different stores or times of day, so a simple side-by-side comparison should be taken with a grain of salt.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hardware/Industry (Geha)) thread “[Good News] Palworld’s Pop-Up Store Suddenly Drops Ticket Requirement, Now Open to All ♥“.

  • Fans note the calls are thin on the autumn tour — 5ch fires back: “Don’t lean on the crowd, entertain us!”

A post noting that hardly any “calls” (the coordinated chants fans shout at live shows) could be heard at Juice=Juice’s “Room Tour 2026” sparked discussion on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. Following a message from the group’s official X account, opinions split between “it’s nicer to actually hear the singing when it’s quiet” and “don’t lean on the crowd — get us fired up.” The thread also touched on the growing number of new fans who don’t know the calls, plus complaints about the setlist and stage direction. Posters were divided over whether to blame the audience or the management/production side.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

“Calls” are a deeply rooted chant culture at Japanese idol shows, with a fixed pattern for each song — the newer a fan is, the fewer chances they’ve had to learn them. In Hello! Project, the crowd at any given venue tends to turn over quickly, so call volume is easily swayed by the ratio of new fans to veterans and by how many attendees are “at-home” (online-only) fans. The thread mixed pro-and-con takes — “it’s nicer to hear the singing when it’s quiet” versus “fans should raise their voices to match the members” — with comparisons to other groups that release call tutorial videos, plus complaints about the setlist and stage direction. Opinions split over whether to blame the audience or management/production. It’s also worth noting that only part of the original official-account post could be confirmed within the thread itself, so the sense that it was “provocative” owes a lot to individual fans’ interpretation.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “Juice=Juice’s official X account starts fretting that fans’ calls are almost nonexistent on the autumn tour, ends up goading them to “raise your voices” wwwwwwwww“.

  • 80 Looks Like the Old 60: 5ch Marvels at Rock Legends Still Going Strong (“The Metal God’s Still Got It”)

An article from Rolling Stone Japan titled “At 80, They Look Like the 60-Year-Olds of the Past” was reposted to 5ch via Yahoo News, sparking discussion about how rock legends in their 80s — Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Paul Simon, and others — are still going strong today. The thread lit up with surprise at the gap between the old image of “rockers die at 27” and the reality of Keith Richards still active at 82, while plenty of replies also coolly pointed out real signs of aging, like the Metal God losing his high notes or Paul Simon’s voice not holding up. The talk then branched off into distinctly Japanese “looking your age” comparisons — jokes about the age gap between music critic Masanori Ito and Jon Bon Jovi, and comparisons between Sazae-san’s Namihei Isono (canonically 54) and modern-day actors.

    Background and Talking Points

The “27 Club” is the nickname for musicians who died at 27 — Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, and others — a phrase that’s carried symbolic weight in rock culture since the 1960s. The thread’s astonishment centers on the gap between that “burn out young” image and the reality of Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones still performing into their 80s. That said, “still active” doesn’t necessarily mean performing at peak-era level — commenters pointed out things like the Metal God struggling with high notes and Paul Simon’s voice cracking, a nuance the original headline alone doesn’t convey. The thread’s side discussion — that “40 today isn’t the same as 40 back then” — also stayed at the level of gut-feeling comparisons, without anyone offering concrete reasons like improved nutrition or medical advances.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Entertainment/Sports News+) thread “[Music] At 80, They Look Like the 60-Year-Olds of the Past: The Astonishing Staying Power of Rock Legends — Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Paul Simon.”

  • Rio Sakurai: “Moon-Viewing Cream Puffs Remind Me of Last Fall’s Rough Patch” — Hello! Project Fans Look Back

After Morning Musume。’25 member Rio Sakurai remarked that “seeing moon-viewing cream puffs reminds me of the rough patch we went through last fall,” a thread sprang up on the Hello! Project board to look back at what exactly happened during that period. Posters pointed out that at the time, the fall tour overlapped with Rock in Japan and the Shanghai show dates, and on top of that, Rio Kitagawa had her activities restricted over “that incident,” while Rena Yokoyama’s ability to perform stayed up in the air until the last minute due to poor health. The thread was split over which factor was really at the core of the “rough patch.”

    https://kizuna.5ch.io/test/read.cgi/morningcoffee/1766011465

Background and Talking Points on This Topic

During this stretch, Morning Musume。 was carrying a double dose of instability: Rio Kitagawa had her activities restricted following a scandal, while whether Rena Yokoyama could perform stayed unclear right up to the last minute due to health concerns. On top of that, the fall tour overlapped with Rock in Japan and the Shanghai show, reportedly making things physically punishing on the ground as well. In the thread, voices pinning all the chaos on Kitagawa’s absence clashed with those writing it off as her being “selfish,” though there’s also word that Kitagawa herself intended to perform but wasn’t able to join rehearsals — meaning it can’t be boiled down to a simple cause and effect. Speculation also surfaced that Marii Makino’s absence was a “boycott,” but other threads have already confirmed it was due to poor health. Sakurai herself only ever said it was a “rough patch” without naming any specific events, so whether the thread’s guesses actually match what she meant remains unclear.

  • Bought an Alphard on a Balloon Loan, Then Went Bust: The Downfall of a 45-Year-Old Salaryman Earning ¥6 Million a Year

An article published by THE GOLD ONLINE tells the story of a 45-year-old salaryman earning ¥6 million a year who bought a Toyota Alphard using a residual-value loan (known in Japan as “zankure”), only to be forced to give up the car a few years later — and even hit with an additional settlement bill on top of that. According to the article, a survey found that only 36.9% of people correctly understand how these loans work, while 53.5% said they “don’t understand” them. On 5ch, commenters debated the mismatch between the family’s situation — three people with kids already grown — and their choice of a large minivan like the Alphard, whether choosing a car for show was worth it, and how the interest structure differs from residual-value plans for smartphones.

    That's about right
as a store manager, he's probably on a fixed annual salary with no bonus.

General benchmark: At most major and mid-size chains, store managers (management-level, roughly equivalent to a section chief) earn around ¥6–7 million a year.
Large or top-selling stores: Managers of flagship stores (large urban locations) or extremely high-performing stores, especially those also holding a department-head-level role, can earn close to ¥8–10 million.
Performance-based variation: Pay often varies with store sales and performance (incentives and bonuses), so managers at underperforming stores can end up stuck in the ¥5 million range.

But in the end, it stopped being sustainable after a few years, he was forced to give up the car, and on top of that got hit with an additional settlement demand

at the end of the day, it just shows that surprisingly few people actually understand what a residual-value loan really means.

    Same as revolving credit payments

America is basically built on it lol

still, a house I get, but at least buy a car with cash. I mean, if you're a rookie fresh out of school, fine, but once you're over 30…

Background and Key Points of Debate

A residual-value loan (“zankure”) is a financing scheme in which monthly installments only cover the purchase price minus the car’s projected trade-in value at the end of the contract. This makes the monthly burden look lighter, but if the buyer fails to meet the conditions for the guaranteed residual value when trading the car in, they end up facing an additional settlement charge. According to the survey cited in the article, fewer than 40% of people correctly understand this mechanism, and more than half answered that they “don’t understand” it — suggesting a lack of adequate explanation or understanding at the time of contract. On the thread, the debate centered less on doubts about the contract terms themselves and more on whether the car’s class was simply too much for the buyer’s income and family situation, with many commenters questioning the soundness of his spending decision. Some also compared it to smartphone residual-value plans, but most phone contracts charge no interest, whereas car residual-value loans charge interest even on the residual portion — a key difference that neither the article nor the thread fully spelled out, making a simple comparison between the two misleading.

  • Sendai Bank’s Baby Bonus Ties Cash to Birth Weight — Critics Say ‘Underweight Babies Cost More, Not Less’

Starting October 1, Sendai Bank—a subsidiary of Jimoto Holdings—will begin depositing a celebratory gift equal to a baby’s birth weight in grams (converted 1-for-1 into yen) into any newly opened savings account held in the child’s name. The move sponsors “Sukusuku Box,” a childcare support program in Miyagi Prefecture; eligible children must be six or younger, and opening the account requires a minimum deposit of 30,000 yen, among other conditions. Birth weight is verified using the mother-and-child health handbook. On 5channel, some argued the amount should just be a flat sum for everyone, others worried about the impact on children born underweight, and still others questioned the legality of savings accounts and deposits held in a child’s name.

On the 25th, Sendai Bank, a subsidiary of Jimoto Holdings, announced it would sponsor the “Sukusuku Box” childcare support project running in Miyagi Prefecture. Starting October 1, the bank will deposit a celebratory gift equal to the child’s birth weight in grams (as yen) into any newly opened account in the child’s name, provided certain conditions are met.

For a baby born weighing 3,250 grams, for example, 3,250 yen would go into the new account. Eligible children are those age six or under who have received a “Sukusuku Box” containing sponsor-company products; conditions include opening a new account and depositing at least 30,000 yen at the same time. Birth weight is confirmed via the mother-and-child health handbook.

According to a Sendai Bank representative, the celebratory-gift idea actually came from bank employees as part of the sponsorship effort. The bank also hopes that opening accounts for children early will lead them to keep it as their main bank well into adulthood. The “Sukusuku Box” project is organized by the Kahoku Shimpo newspaper and the Miyagi Consumers’ Co-operative Society.

    > Birth weight is confirmed via the mother-and-child health handbook.

Background and key points of this story

This isn’t a standalone birthrate-boosting measure from Sendai Bank on its own — it’s a sponsorship of the “Sukusuku Box” project run by the Kahoku Shimpo newspaper and the Miyagi Consumers’ Co-operative Society, and it’s limited to children age six or under living in Miyagi Prefecture. Because the gift amount is tied directly to birth weight in grams, thread commenters pointed out that it fails to account for babies born underweight. But per the article, Sendai Bank’s own stated motive is a business one — getting families to open accounts early so the bank becomes their long-term main bank — not a uniform government benefit program. Separately, opening accounts and receiving gifts in a child’s name is permitted as long as the parent, acting as legal guardian, stays within gift-tax and inheritance-tax filing obligations, so concerns that these are illegal ‘nominee accounts’ appear to stem from a misunderstanding of how the system actually works.

    Background and Talking Points

On July 23 this year, Mai Ozeki and Chisaki Morito performed a ceremonial first pitch and mini-live at Belluna Dome, home stadium of the Saitama Seibu Lions, and both also serve as ambassadors for a collaboration between the team and the Bazaar brand. That campaign generated real buzz, including posters put up along the Seibu Line, and against that backdrop, the story of Morito pouting after Ozeki went to a game privately with other members has been taken well on 5ch, seen as an extension of the friendship that grew out of their official collaboration. While the thread was largely filled with speculation about who joined the outing and warm praise for the members who made the trip, it also drifted at times into off-topic banter about other members’ looks and remarks mocking a certain member’s exposure. Such posts amount to disparagement or sexual commentary directed at the individuals involved, so they have been left out of this article.

A weekly magazine survey asking “who fans want as the Yomiuri Giants’ next manager” was reposted on 5ch’s Entertainment & Sports News+ board, sparking a flood of comments. Taking the top spot was “Godzilla” Hideki Matsui, a longtime favorite of former manager Shigeo Nagashima, edging out calls for the return of Tatsunori Hara or Shinnosuke Abe and hopes pinned on rising name Masumi Kuwata—though none of them managed to overtake Matsui for first place. Commenters were divided on several fronts: surprise that a baseball ranking came from such an unlikely source, how much longer the Giants can keep up their long-standing tradition of promoting only “homegrown” players to manager, and what should happen to interim manager Hashigami, who has been filling in since former manager Abe stepped down.

If they were so committed to the "pure Giants blood" thing,
they should've promoted an actual homegrown guy to interim manager the moment Abe quit, instead of Hashigami.
At this point you could say that principle has effectively already collapsed.
And it's become obvious that sticking to the homegrown-only policy is exactly what's made the team weaker,
so there's no point clinging to it anymore.

Can't imagine anyone but Arai would even agree to take the job.

He's offered to resign multiple times and the front office talked him out of it every time—
they should be paying the guy something like 300 million yen a year.
    116AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:19
Can they even put together a coaching staff around Matsui?
    122AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:20
    Re: #116
Could be interesting if he brought in coaches from the Yankees.

    Re: #116
Staffing it wouldn't be a problem at all—
if Yomiuri goes all in, they could put together a dazzling coaching staff stacked with big Heisei-era names.
The real issue is I doubt the man himself even wants the job.

    Baseball's genuinely in trouble.
Once Ohtani retires nobody's going to watch MLB anymore.
Matsui or Ichiro becomes a manager, Ohtani comes back and manages too—that'll truly be the last hurrah, and then baseball is completely finished.
    145AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:25
    Re: #126
NHK-BS's MLB broadcasts are likely ending in 2028,
so a lot of people will probably stop watching once that happens.

What about that loser Sada (Sadaharu Oh)?
    134AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:23
    Re: #132
Ah right, so "Wan-chan" (a play on "loser dog" from the post above—"wan" is a dog's bark) might be making a comeback after all.

Though I'll deliberately ignore the "Sada-bo" jab.
    140AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:24
    Re: #134
More like "Oh-chan" (Sadaharu Oh) making a comeback.
    133AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:22
Both Matsui and Kuwata went off to MLB, so technically they're not "homegrown" anymore, right?
Is that really okay? What happened to the tradition lol
    137AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:24
    Re: #133
If you're going to say that, then Sakamoto's the only one left, isn't he.
    151AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:26
    Re: #133
Matsui's someone both Watanabe ("Nabetsune") and Nagashima always welcomed.
If Matsui had given the okay, Yoshinobu Takahashi probably could've kept playing a bit longer.
Even among today's alumni association or front office, I doubt anyone would object to him.
    139AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:24
I caught Egawa's commentary three times this year, and there were moments where it was clear he's out of touch with today's game.
There were scenes where he had to ask Imae or Akaboshi, who were sitting with him, or got corrected by them.
As for Kuwata, that tell-all book from his younger days left such a strong impression that I've disliked him ever since.
    154AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:27
    Re: #139
You can tell from watching related YouTube clips—
Egawa's memory is pretty hazy too.

Background and Key Points of Debate

Since former manager Shinnosuke Abe stepped down, the Giants have continued under interim manager Hashigami, a coach filling in for now, making the official managerial appointment for next season a major point of interest for alumni and fans alike. The Giants have traditionally installed homegrown players as manager, but both Hideki Matsui and Masumi Kuwata have MLB playing experience, and the thread was split over how to even define “homegrown” in that context. Some pointed to the Hanshin Tigers, who have brought in outside managers like Katsuya Nomura and Senichi Hoshino in the past, drawing a contrast that highlighted just how distinctive the Giants’ approach really is. It’s also worth noting the original article came from a survey by the women’s magazine Weekly Josei, and commenters found it notable that such an outlet would run a baseball ranking at all—arguably itself a sign of just how broad baseball’s appeal really is.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Entertainment & Sports News+) thread “[Pro Baseball] “Ranking: Who Fans Want as Next Season’s Giants Manager” — Beating out comebacks for Hara and Abe and hopes for rising star Kuwata, the No. 1 pick is “the one who carries on Shigeo Nagashima’s will”.”

  • Astonishment Over the Yomeimon Gate Built at Urawa High School’s Cultural Festival: ‘This Is Next-Level Power’

A student-made recreation of the “Yomeimon Gate” at Saitama Prefectural Urawa High School’s cultural festival went viral on social media, and after a news article dated September 18, 2026, it also sparked a huge reaction on 5ch’s Geinou/Sports News+ board. Amid a flood of comments amazed that something this intricate could be handmade, the discussion spread in many directions — covering material costs, safety concerns, speculation about whether AI or 3D printers were involved in the design, and debate over whether it’s appropriate for a school this focused on exam prep to pour so much effort into it.

Ship it off to Nikko Toshogu (the shrine housing the real gate).

Going this far makes you wonder about safety, but since it's high schoolers doing it, the conclusion is basically 'as long as it doesn't collapse, it's fine for now.'

Given how massive this thing looks, even if it were a 'Danborghini'-style build, not sure that'd save you.

What's amazing about Urawa High is that they do this with exam prep on the back burner.
Even the day before the Center Test (the old national exam), third-years were practicing like their lives depended on it just to beat the teachers' team in the school rugby tournament.

I thought festivals were just classroom haunted houses or cafes, that level of thing.
    78AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:08
These days you can have AI whip up the blueprints, so they can pour all their effort into the manual work.
    Even so, this is amazing.
That dragon alone — how many hours would that take someone?

I think they're using a 3D printer. Apparently there's a tradition of spending a whole year building the gate.

They must be busy studying — how much time did they actually sink into this?

Prefectural Urawa has a high rate of students taking a gap year to re-study (ronin), so I guess the studying happens after graduation.

It's impressive that nobody's going 'eh, it's probably just AI' about this one.

I bet AI or alumni (OB) are involved in the design — you can tell by looking at the gates from past years.

    that's the part.

    Re: #111
Yeah, they seem to be using wood and all kinds of other materials.
There's probably a safety expert overseeing it too, so they likely spent a fair amount.
Maybe they're even angling for this kind of news coverage as publicity.
    127AnonymousSep 27, 2026 12:23

Saitama Prefecture's board of education had a policy to make it coed, but

Same goes for Urawa Daiichi Girls' High School and others.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The Yomeimon Gate is a National Treasure structure at Nikko Toshogu Shrine, famous for its intricate carvings and vividly colored decoration. Saitama Prefectural Urawa High School is known as a top boys’ prep school, and within 5ch it’s already recognized as having a tradition of building elaborate gates for its cultural festival every year — the thread itself notes “there’s a tradition of spending a whole year building the gate.” Debate mainly split over “how much of this is really handmade,” with some posts speculating about 3D printers or AI design assistance, alongside others praising the clear manual labor behind the assembly and carving. Opinions were also divided on whether it’s appropriate for a college-prep school to pour this much effort into something other than exam study, with some framing it as a proud tradition and others calling it “putting the cart before the horse.” One point readers could easily get wrong: this is an official annual school event, not a one-off special project this year, and no official figures on material costs or safety measures were ever presented in the thread — those remain pure speculation.
