‘VIVANT’ Heads Into Its Finale Next Week — 5ch Worried They Can’t ‘Fold the Furoshiki Back Up’

The story

TBS’s Sunday Drama Theater series “VIVANT” entered its endgame with Season 2’s episode 23, which aired on November 1, and will wrap up with episode 24 next week on November 8. The broadcast is expected to run 10 minutes longer than the usual one-hour slot. On 5ch’s live-discussion threads, many posters worried whether a single remaining episode could actually resolve everything the show has piled up — from Nogi and Nozaki’s escape plan to the fate of the fusion-reactor data — while others were simply enjoying the “Shonen Jump”-style plot convenience, like supposedly dead comrades coming back to life. Reactions mixed anticipation and anxiety over the already-teased film sequel.

The one show that reminds me of when TV still had real power.
I'm happy we can all discuss it together like this.
8AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:41
The treasure hunt's gotta be for the movie.
Next episode's probably just the escape plus finally learning what Abe Hiroshi's really after.
10AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:41
Nogoon Beki shows up to save them at the end, right?
11AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:42
They've got the researcher himself right there — who needs the fusion data lol, what are they even doing
12AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:42
Cracked up at that line about 'a great adventure beginning.'

Re: #12
Same here lol, like is this Dragon Quest or what
13AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:43
Next week opens with Nozaki running around full of energy.
Nogi, F, and Liu start singing like some kind of triplets.
15AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:45
They dragged the rescue op out for weeks,
and now it's suddenly this sloppy fast-forward kind of pacing.
Nozaki's probably alive anyway.
22AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:49
Re: #15
This show's rule is simple: shoot the head to actually kill someone, shoot the torso to keep them alive.
18AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:47
The plot holes have really set in now —
there's something to call out like once a minute.
19AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:48
The part that's turning into Dragon Quest
is probably getting saved for the movie.
Next week's probably just up through Nozaki's rescue.
20AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:49
I wish they'd only pull the 'dead person was secretly alive' twist once.
21AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:49
It's gonna wrap up with a streaming-exclusive, a movie trilogy, AND a year-end TV special!!!
23AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:50
Ota-chan's so cute (´・ω・`)
24AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:50
A thrilling rollercoaster of an action drama —
'The truth lies behind the behind of the behind!'
25AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:52
Feels like it's gonna go downhill with every movie, just like SPEC did (another TBS drama that got worse with each film sequel)
76AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:15
Re: #25
Yeah, that gyoza robot and the whole Vatican thing were garbage.
27AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:52
"Believing that Nogi's courage will save the world…!"

Thanks for watching!
28AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:53
Sounds like the movie's gonna have Nogi in a leather hat with a whip,
going to retrieve a disc hidden in some demon palace (Indiana Jones vibes)
36AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:58
Re: #28
And Beki's starting to show signs of dementia.
29AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:54
I mean, it's becoming a movie, right?
No way they actually wrap everything up.
31AnonymousNov 1, 2026 22:56
Bet the movie drops a twist like: Tojo is actually Han Linxin's younger brother, both born and raised in Japan — except the brother grew up in Yokohama Chinatown and was secretly trained underground as an elite intelligence agent. He let himself get caught and threatened by Nozaki on purpose so he'd be turned into a Public Security white-hat hacker, because infiltrating as a mole was the plan all along. Hamada Gaku's a solid actor who can carry a lead role — no way he just stays a jumpy, goofy comic-relief hacker.

No matter how thick a fat guy's flesh is, is it really enough to stop a bullet?
48AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:04
Re: #43
Sure, possible if you use the right kind of gun.
It's fiction, so anything goes.
51AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:07
Re: #43
Well, if you just halve the gunpowder load in the bullet, the power drops, so sure.
52AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:08
Re: #43
Lord Heart deflects even a club swing.
53AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:08
Nozaki's abs are made of steel.
That much is for sure.
56AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:09
Re: #53
He's probably got seven scars.
57AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:09
Are you guys actually gonna go see the movie?
74AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:15
Re: #57
Yeah, I'm done at this point.
It's too ridiculous to watch without the live-commentary threads.
Though it'll probably be a huge hit anyway.
58AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:09
The pre-broadcast promos said someone who'd surprise everyone would appear — who was that?
Was there anyone in the cast that actually surprised you? Maybe they're saving it for the finale?
63AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:11
Re: #58
Yakusho Koji's mentor.
59AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:10
The enemy from the last arc becomes an ally.
A dead comrade comes back to life.
A grand treasure-hunting adventure begins.

Is this Dragon Ball or something?
68AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:13
Re: #59
Season 2 really has that 'live-reading-Shonen-Jump' energy.
69AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:14
Re: #59
Yeah, there's clearly an homage to '80s Shonen Jump manga here.
The writing's clumsy, but if you think of it as reading the Jump from the era Gian liked, it doesn't bother you as much (a nod to the loud, simple-minded bully character from Doraemon)
71AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:14
Fine to keep the series going, but the director shouldn't double as the screenwriter.
Season 2's plot construction felt even more amateurish than Season 1's.
80AnonymousNov 1, 2026 23:18
Re: #71
He basically forced some old house in Shimane he liked into becoming a 'pilgrimage site' and had everyone take commemorative photos there — total free rein.
Wonder how the top-tier actors dragged along for that actually felt about it.

Nozaki died without ever getting a single good moment lol

Oh, you actually think he's dead~
What a gullible viewer lol

Background and key points of this discussion

“VIVANT” is a flagship TBS Sunday Drama Theater title whose 2023 Season 1 was a massive hit, sparking calls for a film adaptation and a sequel — this Season 2 is an extension of that momentum. What split opinion in the thread was less the intricacy of the mystery-solving than how the writing prioritizes scale and spectacle. Some viewers nostalgically praised the show for having the kind of intensity TV dramas used to have, while others coolly criticized its “Shonen Jump”-style plot convenience, such as supposedly dead characters coming back to life or enemies abruptly switching sides and becoming allies. Questions were also raised about the director also serving as screenwriter, and viewers were divided on how much of the piled-up mystery can realistically be resolved in a single final episode. With a film adaptation already hinted at, there was also talk of the story possibly continuing beyond the TV finale.
