TV Asahi’s ‘Idols Who Can Actually Sing’ Special Snubs Hello! Project’s Big Three — 5ch Reacts

The story

A “idols who can really sing” special put together for a TV Asahi music program featured a member of Juice=Juice from Hello! Project, while no one from Angerme, Morning Musume, or BEYOOOOONDS was selected. On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, opinions split over the reasoning behind the pick — whether it simply came down to name recognition, was a genuine evaluation of singing ability, or whether the social-media spread of Juice=Juice’s hit song “Moreme” helped push the selection.

What people said

There are tons of people who sing better than Juice=Juice's Danbara and Inoue though
2AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:13
You need a certain level of name recognition just to even be in the conversation
5AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:14
Re: #2
There are groups with less name recognition than Angerme that got featured too
3AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:13
Well, if Kamikokuryo's out, our side is basically just Hirayama anyway lol
Though I think Tsubaki Factory sings better honestly (lol)
4AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:14
They probably always wanted to book Juice=Juice for the show but had no ammo to convince the higher-ups who make the call — then the 'Moreme' 💃 craze hit and it was like 'Great! 500 million total SNS views! Now we can finally book my beloved Ruru-chan!'

Re: #1
Makes you think Hello! Project otaku act like music connoisseurs but are mostly tone-deaf old men who can't even judge good singing from bad

Re: #5
I like CYNHN but let's be honest, they're underground, right? And they still got picked. If you exclude Oda since she was picked last time, you'd get Hirayama for Angerme, Nonaka for Morning Musume, and Nishida for BEYOOOOONDS — not really worth making a fuss over
9AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:24
Oda got picked before though
It's been 6 years since then, and no one on Oda's level vocally has emerged in Morning Musume
10AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:24
If they picked purely on merit it'd be full of random underground nobodies

Regarding EIGHT-JAM's 'Amazing Vocalists of the Reiwa Idol World' special
It seems Kasai Yui wasn't selected, so I'd like whoever's in charge of the selection to deepen their knowledge a bit more and reconsider…
13AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:25
I get it if it's just Juice=Juice riding momentum, but if the other groups got in too, wouldn't that look like blatant favoritism?
14AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:26
Up-Front should clearly hold a 'Diva Audition 2' to bring in the talent they obviously need
They knew Oda was leaving and still didn't reinforce for it, that's the problem
43AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:37
Re: #14
Doing that would basically be admitting current Morning Musume has no diva at all
When they've got amazing raw talent like Ishikawa
20AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:30
Only Hello! Project otaku think the whole franchise is amazing and that Juice=Juice is actually on the mediocre side
Here's how outsiders actually react
29AnonymousOct 26, 2026 09:59
Re: #20
This is exactly the kind of cheap image manipulation that gets Juice=Juice otaku hated
31AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:01
Re: #20
That's a lot of likes
Guess everyone out there feels the same way
35AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:07
Re: #20
Don't you dare crop out the part where Ishii's in the shot 😡😡
33AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:03
Re: #29
If it were image manipulation it wouldn't get this many likes
37AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:30
Re: #33
That's because Juice=Juice otaku are the ones liking it lol
38AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:31
Re: #37
Isn't the fact that praise comments for members outside Juice=Juice get no likes exactly what public opinion looks like?
39AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:31
Lol, gloating like a winner inside a unit that's otherwise packed with weak members
40AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:31
Re: #39
Which one do you mean?
41AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:36
If there's a next time, maybe one more person from Hello! Project will get in, right?
Someone other than Oda, Danbara, Inoue, or Takagi
42AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:37
Re: #41
Like, 6 years from now?
52AnonymousOct 26, 2026 10:54
According to Kawabe, the staff on TV stations' music shows don't even know the names or songs of Angerme, Tsubaki Factory, BEYOOOOONDS, or OCHA NORMA — they're simply not on their radar
Since they're unknown, there's no way an offer would ever come in
This is from Kawabe, who personally went around pitching Juice=Juice's 'Moreme' to TV producers as 'this song is going massively viral'
Up-Front's own manager didn't even know the name, face, or contact info of the producers who cast for music shows
Before 'Moreme,' they weren't even sending CDs or Blu-rays to producers and directors, or sending concert invitations (they'd basically given up on the major TV music shows)

Re: #52
We already knew that from what Taima said
What Up-Front told Taima was basically:

'We don't know how to promote you'
'We have no connections with shows or producers'
'You'd be better off moving to an agency that does'
'We'll support you either way'

That's the gist of it

Hello! Project 'Singing Ability vs. Looks' chart
61AnonymousOct 26, 2026 11:43
Re: #53
What are you even trying to accomplish posting such a bogus chart
67AnonymousOct 26, 2026 12:31
TV just doesn't feature people with low name recognition
68AnonymousOct 26, 2026 12:46
Re: #67
So you're admitting their singing isn't actually that great
Juice=Juice otaku being honest for once lol
71AnonymousOct 26, 2026 12:49
We should just be grateful Hello! Project even got one slot
72AnonymousOct 26, 2026 12:50
Re: #71
Especially when you think about where things stood this time last year
74AnonymousOct 26, 2026 13:17
If you watch the Hamada Song Festival you can tell they're not even in the same league — especially Inoue Reon. The whole 'Hello! Project can sing but the looks aren't there' narrative has completely collapsed
79AnonymousOct 26, 2026 13:35
Re: #74
This is exactly it
Because of Inoue, 'bad singing AND bad looks' has become Hello! Project's image
Up until now the singing at least was somewhat recognized by the general public

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Singing-ability specials like this tend to hinge on a TV station’s or producer’s personal connections and casting circumstances, and within the thread it was shared that the deciding factor behind Juice=Juice’s appearance may have been the social-media spread of their hit song “Moreme.” In the past, Morning Musume’s Oda Sakura was picked for a similar feature, and some pointed out that six years later, no member has emerged who’s seen as her vocal equal. Meanwhile, the thread’s disagreement never really resolves between fans of other groups who argue the pick came down to name recognition alone, and Juice=Juice fans who see the viral spread itself as proof the group is properly recognized — and it’s worth noting that the “like” counts and cropped screenshots presented as evidence aren’t the show’s official selection criteria, just impressions circulating on 5ch.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “Isn’t it weird that a TV Asahi special on “idols who can really sing” has zero members from Angerme, Morning Musume, or BEYOOOOONDS?“.
