The story
On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, a debate broke out over which member lineup’s vocal version fans should pick when streaming Juice=Juice songs. Using tracks like “Bitansan” and “C&C” as examples, the thread split between veteran fans who prize recordings from the original-lineup era and newer fans who back the 2023 versions sung by the group’s current members. Posts kept circling back to the question of which approach actually shows more respect for the current lineup, and many argued that the better-fitting vocal version differs from song to song — making it more than a simple old-guard-vs-new-guard spat.
What people said
So glad a lot of people are putting together streaming playlists of the fall tour setlist, but throwing in the 2023 versions of Bitansan and C&C… that's seriously just no respect for the original lineup, or something like that… (self-deleting tweet)

I wanted to prep for the Juice=Juice show, so I've been digging through old songs, but it's all voices I don't recognize and the songs just won't stick in my head at all (T_T)
Same goes for this thread, honestly — at this point the word "respect" itself feels gross and totally beside the point.
The way the glam-pic newbies relate to the original lineup isn't even disrespect, it's flat-out indifference.
Exactly this.
I want every song from the early days re-recorded.
Doing that isn't going to bring Morning Musume back up, you know
Whatever your beloved Kitagawa screwed up has nothing to do with Juice
Morning Musume slid down all on its own
Exactly this
They've been taking it out on Juice the whole time lol
The "Oyaki" are just anti-fan trolls, you idiot — don't go pinning it on us Musume। fans, trash
It's changed a ton, actually
The old guys aren't even 40% of the crowd anymore.
There's no way someone who's spent all their time on Ookami (an old-school idol-fan message board that predates this one) knows the live scene better than people who actually go to shows — so armchair fans should zip it.
No way
The old songs only work because of Kanazawa's voice.

I listen to Hello! Project sometimes on the unlimited streaming plan.
And when I do, stuff like the 5-member-era version comes on,
right in the middle of "Romance" or whatever,
and listening to it I just think, man, I wish I could hear the current members sing this.
I've ended up wishing they'd re-record everything.
That's a real business opportunity right there.
You won't even show your real name, let alone your Twitter handle — so who even are you, lol?
Whose fan are you anyway?
Must be rough, living your life running and hiding.
Well, pretty much guaranteed you're a fan of a member who bailed partway through, right? lol
That's why you hate the 2023 version lol
Not "pretty much guaranteed" — make that "absolutely certain."
Yaguchi Mari was never in Juice=Juice! Hey, Yaguchi fans.
This isn't Morning Musume., so that logic doesn't fly here.
"Original members" and "early members" are not the same thing.
To begin with, there were only 6 original members in the early lineup.
Background and Key Points of This Debate
This kind of clash tends to recur in Hello! Project groups that have been active a long time and gone through lineup changes. Because older recordings still contain the parts sung by members who have since left, a gap in sentiment easily opens up between fans who want to hear “today’s Juice=Juice” when streaming songs or listening to tour setlists, and fans who believe the work should be preserved as it originally was, founding members’ voices included. Even within the thread, the scope of the term “original members” kept shifting — some used it to mean only the six members present at formation, others used it more broadly for anyone who was in the group before leaving — and that inconsistency in usage only made the clash easier to see. The mention of a related thread also suggests this isn’t a one-off dispute but a topic that has flared up repeatedly before.
