The story
In the live-watch thread for “Detective Precure! ++Star Detective Precure!++,” the announcement that theatrical bonuses would be given out over four consecutive weeks split viewer reactions. Fans chasing the merch were thrilled, while others worried that in areas with fewer screenings, collecting the full set would be impossible. The episode itself also sparked discussion about the relationship between the Director—who’d been hiding her true identity—and Anna-chan’s grandmother, as well as the over-the-top finishing move.

What people said
What would a Precure that otaku ignore even look like? Has there ever been one?
Maybe I just feel instinctive rejection because I'm an old man.
Kids do tend to love stuff that makes zero sense to adults…
That finishing move definitely wasn't necessary lol.
Éclair shows zero mercy.
She just likes picking on anything weaker than her, like Ruruka.
It had shrunk down so tiny that a body slam was more reliable and efficient than a sword or cannon blast.
No, she remembers.
Whether she disowned him or they're just pretending to be unrelated, who knows — they're probably both just playing dumb with each other.
They could've at least gone the Detective Conan route and had her de-aged with a drug, like Haibara.
Usonowaru is way too cute.
It's basically a pet at this point.
The gap between the simplified art for Niji & Uso-cchi and the art quality for Mama is wild.
Guessing this is where they'll finally reveal what Anna-chan and Mikuru-chan's relationship actually is.
The face you see in the mirror and the face other people see are a little different, after all.
It's all to promote the combo-attack toy, so the phase of spotlighting individual characters is over.
Guess a Great King's a Great King no matter what.
Ruruka's "I'm also a Shadow…" line was funny too.
Even Ruruka's no match for the Director.
Honestly, what's even bad about being the Great King is never explained.
Maybe it just means "strong" and nothing more.
Giving it out for almost a whole month — guess that's the limit for freebies.
The movie bonus is a separate giveaway, you get it on top

They are fully committed to milking us otaku dry!
Handing out that much is great, but it all comes down to how many screenings you can actually catch.
That's giving me total Gold Funger vibes from "Kaibutsu-kun."
There was also that chef who sliced meat off his own body to make tonkatsu, come to think of it.
Are the present and the future even the same timeline?
The rookie manga artist from the manga-artist episode turns into a famous manga artist by the present day Anna's from, so yeah, same timeline.

Week 5 looks like it might be a random bonus, and that sounds brutal

Three colors — so by the color scheme, is it like Pochi-tan, Mashu-tan, Shushu-tan or something?
Would be nice if there's a Karin Alain Rain bonus too, but we'll see.
Guess it's treated kind of like bowling.
Guess condensing the transformation sequence freed up some runtime.
Counting down from 501, what the double ring and triple ring even mean — I actually learned that stuff from shows like that.
Re: #131
It's "kanpu" (dry-cloth rubbing), not "kanpū" (cold-wind rubbing) lol — I used to mix those up too, back in the day.
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
Splitting theatrical bonuses across multiple weeks is a classic promotional tactic widely used for anime films to encourage repeat viewings of the same work. The thread’s split opinions pitted fans delighted by the lavish giveaways against those worried that theaters with fewer screenings wouldn’t let them collect the full set. On the story side, posters were divided over whether the twist — that the grandmother who’d hidden her identity and the Director are the same person — involves retained memory or deliberate pretense, and no official explanation was given within the thread. One point readers may easily get wrong: the “four consecutive weeks of distribution” isn’t a nationwide guarantee — it depends on each theater’s own screening schedule.
