The story

In the live-watch thread for “Detective Precure! ++Star Detective Precure!++,” the announcement that theatrical bonuses would be given out over four consecutive weeks split viewer reactions. Fans chasing the merch were thrilled, while others worried that in areas with fewer screenings, collecting the full set would be impossible. The episode itself also sparked discussion about the relationship between the Director—who’d been hiding her true identity—and Anna-chan’s grandmother, as well as the over-the-top finishing move.

Wonder if next year's Precure is going to keep cramming in everything otaku love, or go for a style otaku would just scroll past.

Re: #23
What would a Precure that otaku ignore even look like? Has there ever been one?
40AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:27
Is this "Shinji-kun" character actually popular with little girls? I don't get it at all…
Maybe I just feel instinctive rejection because I'm an old man.

Re: #40
Kids do tend to love stuff that makes zero sense to adults…
47AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:55
Way too overkill.
That finishing move definitely wasn't necessary lol.
Éclair shows zero mercy.
61AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:56
Re: #47
She just likes picking on anything weaker than her, like Ruruka.
57AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:56
Anna and Mikuru already solved it, so isn't it weird that Éclair got the finishing blow?
94AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:00
Re: #57
It had shrunk down so tiny that a body slam was more reliable and efficient than a sword or cannon blast.
58AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:56
Wait, does this mean Grandma lost her memories from her Precure days and doesn't remember Kobayashi?
70AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:57
Re: #58
No, she remembers.
Whether she disowned him or they're just pretending to be unrelated, who knows — they're probably both just playing dumb with each other.
65AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:56
Guess he's dead…

68AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:57
So that smart, cute gal was just the old-lady Director in disguise the whole time…
They could've at least gone the Detective Conan route and had her de-aged with a drug, like Haibara.
86AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:59
Hasn't happened since episode 1, huh

Re: #86
Usonowaru is way too cute.
It's basically a pet at this point.

Re: #86
The gap between the simplified art for Niji & Uso-cchi and the art quality for Mama is wild.
93AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:00
The Director's younger appearance is basically the spitting image of Anna-chan's mother.
Guessing this is where they'll finally reveal what Anna-chan and Mikuru-chan's relationship actually is.

Re: #93
Mikuru doesn't seem to have noticed how much she resembles her.

Re: #117
The face you see in the mirror and the face other people see are a little different, after all.
95AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:00
Oh, finally — instead of just another stretch hyping up one specific character, the main story's actually moving now.
103AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:01
Re: #95
It's all to promote the combo-attack toy, so the phase of spotlighting individual characters is over.
101AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:01
Mako-py!!

108AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:02
Kurea's line "Turns out I was the Great King" cracked me up.
Guess a Great King's a Great King no matter what.
128AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:06
Re: #108
Ruruka's "I'm also a Shadow…" line was funny too.
Even Ruruka's no match for the Director.
132AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:06
Re: #108
Honestly, what's even bad about being the Great King is never explained.
Maybe it just means "strong" and nothing more.

Giving it out for almost a whole month — guess that's the limit for freebies.

The movie bonus is a separate giveaway, you get it on top

THE 4-WEEK STRAIGHT MOVIE BONUS IS HEEEERE!!

They are fully committed to milking us otaku dry!
126AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:05
Re: #111
Handing out that much is great, but it all comes down to how many screenings you can actually catch.
114AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:03
Shaving off part of your own body to make a gold medal…
That's giving me total Gold Funger vibes from "Kaibutsu-kun."
119AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:04
Re: #114
There was also that chef who sliced meat off his own body to make tonkatsu, come to think of it.
122AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:05
Does the protagonist end up going back to her original time period?
Are the present and the future even the same timeline?
137AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:07
Re: #122
The rookie manga artist from the manga-artist episode turns into a famous manga artist by the present day Anna's from, so yeah, same timeline.
129AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:06
The 4th-round bonus is a brand-new double-sided illustration

Week 5 looks like it might be a random bonus, and that sounds brutal

Re: #129
Three colors — so by the color scheme, is it like Pochi-tan, Mashu-tan, Shushu-tan or something?
139AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:08
Re: #129
Would be nice if there's a Karin Alain Rain bonus too, but we'll see.
130AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:06
The bookstore owner snapped "Darts isn't a game!", but CS sports channels actually broadcast darts and billiards as programming.
Guess it's treated kind of like bowling.
131AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:06
That episode was packed with pointless trivia — darts, cold-wind skin rubbing, you name it.
Guess condensing the transformation sequence freed up some runtime.
141AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:08
Re: #130
Counting down from 501, what the double ring and triple ring even mean — I actually learned that stuff from shows like that.

Re: #131
It's "kanpu" (dry-cloth rubbing), not "kanpū" (cold-wind rubbing) lol — I used to mix those up too, back in the day.
148AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:10
What happened to Kobayashi…?

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Splitting theatrical bonuses across multiple weeks is a classic promotional tactic widely used for anime films to encourage repeat viewings of the same work. The thread’s split opinions pitted fans delighted by the lavish giveaways against those worried that theaters with fewer screenings wouldn’t let them collect the full set. On the story side, posters were divided over whether the twist — that the grandmother who’d hidden her identity and the Director are the same person — involves retained memory or deliberate pretense, and no official explanation was given within the thread. One point readers may easily get wrong: the “four consecutive weeks of distribution” isn’t a nationwide guarantee — it depends on each theater’s own screening schedule.
