It was only close because Ohtani was in the lineup.
Without him it would've been a blowout.
He really kills the vibe.
5AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:46
Wait, Skubal hit 3 home runs?

Re: #5
A new two-way star is born to replace Ohtani.
6AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:47
Seriously surprised how empty the stands were.

Re: #6
Was it really that sparse? Guess fans drifted away since Ohtani hasn't been playing much lately.

Re: #6
Apparently it was around 104°F (40°C).
Everyone retreated to the shade.

Re: #6
Heard they issued a heat warning at 40°C (104°F).

Guess he's done with the WBC 🤭

Shohei Ohtani opens up: "This has personally been one of my less good years." Looking back on an up-and-down season so far: "Having the WBC on top of it makes the year feel really long."

Re: #8
But his best season came right after the last WBC.
12AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:51
Pretty sure everyone's just gotten tired of it at this point.

Re: #12
If Ohtani's not producing,
it's just another strong foreign team.
13AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:52
That closer they call 'Suttoko' is insane (a fan nickname riffing on his name 'Scott')
14AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:53
Scott is terrifyingly good.

Who's better, him or Díaz?

Re: #13
Suttokodokkoi (lol — playful slang for 'blockhead,' punning on 'Scott')

The Suttoko Show (same running pun on Scott's name)
16AnonymousOct 4, 2026 08:54
Honestly, I think the Dodgers take it, something like 3-1.

Re: #16
They've got the No. 1 payroll by a mile — it'd be stranger if they didn't win.

Re: #16
The Braves don't have a decent starter besides Sale.

Forget Ohtani for a second — Murakami making it into this picture in his rookie year says something.
Being treated as a face of the team like that is a big deal.

Looks like Mamiko was at the game too.

Is that Hyeseong's wife next to Mamiko in the top left?
38AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:07
September and October in America are all about football.
Even the World Series usually loses the ratings battle when it airs opposite the NFL.
42AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:09
Re: #38
Well, things really only heat up once the World Series starts.
And even then, it can totally fizzle depending on the matchup — like that Rangers vs. Diamondbacks series a few years back.
60AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:19
Since coming back his power's down — a first-inning single was about all he could manage.
63AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:20
Re: #60
A single still has value if it comes in a scoring chance, but…
66AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:21
Honestly makes me want to root for the White Sox over the Dodgers.
67AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:22
Re: #66
Would be fun if they met in the World Series.
You'd root for the Dodgers then though, right?
73AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:25
Saw the thread title and was genuinely shocked thinking Skubal himself hit 3 home runs — can't be the only one, right?
83AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:32
Re: #73
Well, it does say 'Dodgers' right there.
82AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:31
Veterans like Teoscar basically coast all season thinking 'I'll just peak in October,' which makes the guys who actually grinded the whole year look like suckers.
They should make a rule: if you haven't played 100 games in the regular season, you can't play in the postseason.
87AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:33
Re: #82
lol that'd be way too harsh a rule.
89AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:34
Teoscar, Freeman, Snell — they slack off all season so they've got tons of stamina saved up for a big postseason run.
Someone needs to regulate that.
97AnonymousOct 4, 2026 09:38
Re: #89
Teoscar and Freeman are both the type who actually want to play, though.
The ones really slacking off are more like Snell and Glasnow.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

MLB Division Series are best-of-five, and the team that wins Game 1 reportedly advances at a high rate. The Dodgers again have one of the majors’ top payrolls this season, and several posts in the thread took the view that “of course they should win with the No. 1 payroll.” Meanwhile, on Ohtani’s hitting, reports quote him describing this season as “one of my less good years personally,” and the thread was split between taking that slump at face value and chalking it up to the team’s conditioning management. There were also several posts calling veterans like Teoscar Hernández and Snell “slackers” for playing less down the stretch — worth noting this is fan speculation about usage patterns, not an official explanation from the club. The roughly 104°F (40°C) heat on game day was also cited as a possible factor in the low attendance, though this article could not confirm that against official attendance figures.
