The story
On September 24, 2026, Capcom announced a VR version of Ace Attorney 5. It’s slated for release in 2027, supporting Meta VR Glasses and the Meta Quest series (Quest 2/3/3s/Pro); support for PSVR2 has not been confirmed. Since Meta also unveiled its new VR glasses that same day, some commenters speculated about a connection between the two companies, while others voiced confusion over why ‘5’ — an entry with famously mixed reviews within the series — was chosen instead of 1-3 or Great Ace Attorney. The thread also touched on what series writer Shu Takumi is up to these days, and debated the reputations of 5 and 6.

What about PSVR2…?
LOL just imagining that
PSVR IS HEEERE ♪───O(≧∇≦)O────♪
Just bundle 1-2-3 together already
For 1-4 they'd have to build 3D models from scratch off the original art, which is basically a full remake
Don't go pulling a Square Enix on us…
If anything, you can only afford to put out a VR game when you HAVE money to spare
If Capcom's finances are shaky, then pretty much no company out there is doing fine
Or maybe they're prepping for some Nintendo device, like a 3DS-type thing
Can't be helped, Sony's shown zero enthusiasm for PSVR
Looks like it was made for the Meta VR Glasses that were just announced
Probably a deal Meta pitched to them
Capcom does like jumping on new hardware early
Even assuming Meta did pitch it, there are other titles that'd suit VR way better
Even as a courtesy tie-in, this pick is questionable
$1,299.99
So that's about 200,000 yen — well, still cheaper than Apple's headset I guess
You don't get VR — if you could freely explore you'd just get motion sick
They did say Mega Man, Ace Attorney, and Devil May Cry would be core IPs, but nothing's come of it since
I think a new Mega Man is coming out next year though
Then the old man from 3 who throws beans at you would've worked just as well…
He hasn't had a new project since writing the scenario for Monster Hunter Riders
There's no word of him leaving Capcom, so he's probably working on something. Also there's been the multi-platform rollout of Ghost Trick
Wait, Riders was written by Takumi…?
Had no idea
I'd love to see a Great Ace Attorney 3 though
I think he apparently only wrote part of the scenario for that
Aww 🥺 guess it's only PSVR that died 😊 trash
Looks like next year's finally gonna be Year One of God-tier VR 😆
Might actually buy it
Re: #74
If you're not into VR you might not get this, but
PSVR is kind of a failure as a VR platform
Pretty sure 4 has the worst reputation
Content aside, the bigger issue is that it came out while Great Ace Attorney was left hanging halfway through
That's because Takumi wasn't behind 5 or 6. Great Ace Attorney, he actually saw through to the end himself
No, exactly — it's been out of Takumi's hands since 5
There's not a single fun moment playing it, it's just painful to push through
Yeah, the writing feels lifeless now that it's not Shu Takumi anymore
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
The Ace Attorney series, launched by Capcom in 2001, is a beloved adventure franchise. Entries 1 through 4 used hand-drawn, picture-book-style visuals, while 5 onward switched to a fully redesigned 3D model style. As several commenters in the thread pointed out, the likely reason ‘5’ was chosen for VR is technical: turning 1-4 into VR would require building all-new 3D models from the original artwork — essentially a full remake — whereas 5 and 6 already use 3D models that are much easier to repurpose. That said, fans are divided over 5 and 6, since series creator Shu Takumi wasn’t directly involved in either, which is fueling complaints of ‘why not the more popular 1-3 or Great Ace Attorney instead?’ Meta also unveiled its own new VR glasses on the same day as this announcement, prompting speculation about a connection between the two companies — though that remains pure speculation. Whether the VR version will support PSVR2 was not confirmed in the announcement, leaving that as the biggest open question for PlayStation-side users.
