The story
It’s been revealed that the Switch 2 version of “Dragon Quest XI S” will launch for 5,478 yen (tax included), and while players will now be able to choose between a “Resolution Priority Mode” (1440p/30fps) and a “Performance Priority Mode” (1080p/60fps), the game will not support carrying over save data from the Switch version. On the hardware/industry (geha) board, opinions split between those saying existing owners don’t need to bother rebuying it since there’s no new content, and critics calling it inconsiderate compared to other companies’ cross-save support — with the discussion also turning to why no PS5 version is being made.
To sum up the conclusions first:
– The price is 5,478 yen (tax included).
Players will now be able to choose between a “Resolution Priority Mode” (1440p/30fps) and a “Performance Priority Mode” (1080p/60fps).

What people said
They probably just couldn't be bothered and half-assed it.
There are tons of examples of save transfers being possible, so "technically impossible"…
…might actually be true, if it's Square Enix.
The Remake III got a free Switch 2 upgrade, no "Switch 2 Edition" branding or anything.
But Remakes I and II are being treated as separate titles between Switch and Switch 2, with no save compatibility either.
I think it just comes down to motivation.
Unless you're a new customer, who's playing this now anyway?
Existing owners: "Guess I'll just stick with Boost Mode." (Switch 2's backward-compatibility performance boost)
Probably because the graphics aren't good enough to justify it.
If anything, it's basically saying the Switch 2 is PS4-level.
At first I genuinely had no idea what you meant, but then I realized it's just the usual news-aggregator regulars, and it clicked.
Actually, it makes sense if you read it as:
"An excuse to justify being upset that there's no PS5 version."
Isn't it more likely they're skipping a PS5 version because releasing one wouldn't change anything (wouldn't sell, wouldn't dig up new users)?
Though only Square Enix really knows.
Lol, by the time I finished typing this, a bunch of people had already jumped in with comments.
Also check out Re: #37 — that's why I was caught off guard by the Re: #24 post.
Even though they haven't put out a single exclusive.
The level of customer care has actually gotten worse compared to a game from years ago…
The competent engineers probably all quit without passing their know-how on to the younger staff, right?
And in the decades since, the younger generation hasn't even bothered to learn cross-save tech, lol.
Someone brought up exclusives back in Re: #28, and GTA6 is probably the only exclusive left they can use to feel superior about.
Even Persona 6 ended up coming to Switch 2, after all.
Though GTA6 isn't actually exclusive to anything either.

You that eager to get arrested? Ballsy.
Skyrim Anniversary Edition and Hogwarts Legacy let you carry over save data too, you know.
It's a separate piece of software, but if you already own the Switch version, you get a discount.
Well, compared to the Dragon Quest mobile gacha games' revenue, it's basically chump change anyway.
Honestly, about the only ones still prioritizing PlayStation these days are Rockstar, since they've still got a first-party contract left.
If you're really talking "global," PC should be the top priority anyway.
Honestly, I think it's rough for them. Persona's doing better anyway.
Same console and everything — that's honestly way scummier…
Well, that's exactly why GTA6 is the only stick left to beat people with.
Not really something to discuss in a Dragon Quest thread, but I think it'll split about 50/50 for [Persona] 4, and [Persona] 6 will sell better on Switch.
Maybe that team is Square Enix's last shred of conscience.
And yet Dragon Quest III and Dragon Quest X both got Switch 2 updates…
Also, the Trials of Mana Remake gets 60fps and faster loading on Switch 2.
…and that's the same team behind Reve-Saga, too.
The FFT remake got flak, but they clearly did careful work.
Background and Key Points of This Topic
Square Enix’s approach to the Switch 2 transition has been inconsistent. The team behind “FFT: Revenge of Warlock” and the “Trials of Mana Remake” has carefully handled Switch 1 data carryover and 60fps support, and “Dragon Quest III” and “Dragon Quest X” have already received Switch 2 updates. “Dragon Quest XI S,” on the other hand, is being resold as an entirely new package, with no save data carryover implemented. A common misconception among readers is the explanation that “a PS5 version isn’t coming because the graphics are too lightweight” — but pushback within the thread points to sales projections as the real reason, suggesting the decision comes down to business judgment rather than technical difficulty. Opinions in the thread split between a resigned view that existing owners don’t need to force themselves to rebuy the game since there’s no new content, and criticism calling the move inconsiderate compared to how other companies have handled it.
