‘007 First Light’ Delayed a Third Time on Switch 2 — New Release Date Unknown

The story

“007: First Light,” which had been announced for a late-summer 2026 release on Nintendo Switch 2, saw its physical edition’s release postponed as of August 31. This marks the title’s third delay so far, with the publisher only saying a new release date will be announced later. On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board, the news sparked cross-platform arguments over how hard it is to port PS5-generation blockbusters given Switch 2’s processing power, as well as disagreements over frame rate and graphical differences between platforms — with posters even disputing whether the overseas version had been delayed too.

Titles on this garbage hardware always get delayed and downgraded, huh
15AnonymousAug 31, 2026 14:37
Re: #11
Come on, their trump-card new entry after 13 years and it's a downgrade to 30fps
24AnonymousAug 31, 2026 14:46
Re: #15
There they go talking about GTA again
16AnonymousAug 31, 2026 14:37
With a delay this long it's not gonna sell decently
If they're not even motivated, just cancel it — nobody'll miss it
17AnonymousAug 31, 2026 14:38
Re: #16
Even without the delay, Xbox's leftover scraps wouldn't sell anyway (´・ω・`) ("ブビッチ" is 5ch slang mocking Xbox)
22AnonymousAug 31, 2026 14:45
It's only got PS4-level power, after all…
Porting PS5-gen games is rough
Indiana Jones must've worked really hard to pull that off
23AnonymousAug 31, 2026 14:46
Re: #22
Indiana Jones runs at 60fps even on Series S, but they dropped it to 30fps here
33AnonymousAug 31, 2026 14:56
Anyway, 007 was already pretty badly infected with political correctness

And people are still trying to use this as a bludgeon?
39AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:02
Re: #38
That's the amount of content even with all those constraints on PS5
It's pathetic they haven't realized it's simply become impossible on Switch 2
43AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:04
Re: #39
Well, it does run on Series S too though
45AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:04
Re: #43
It doesn't even have ray tracing built in, and even 720p/30fps looks like a struggle
46AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:06
Re: #43
007 runs on Series S too, you know
44AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:04
Guess the only big titles Switch 2 can properly run are PS4-gen games. PS5-gen blockbusters probably just aren't happening on it.
47AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:07
Re: #44
So Resident Evil 9 just got swept under the rug then?
49AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:09
Re: #47
Resident Evil 9 barely has any flashy scenes anyway
52AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:10
Re: #47
Resident Evil and Pragmata are basically PS4-gen-style games anyway
53AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:10
Resident Evil 9, Pragmata, and Onimusha all could've done so much more if they'd just ignored Switch 2
55AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:11
Re: #53
All of those sold worse than on PS5, so it's a moot point anyway
59AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:14
Re: #53
Don't trash-talk Wilds — it ended up getting a Switch 2 version tacked on later against its will
60AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:15
"It's only barely better than PS4, so AAA ports struggle" — I don't think it's just about raw power
Feels like Switch 2 has some fundamental issue that makes it hard to develop for
Even Nintendo's own development speed has slowed down on Switch 2
63AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:18
Re: #60
True that
Way too many games are getting delayed
64AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:18
Too bad this title has no Sony involvement
Things always get boring the moment Sony gets involved, huh
65AnonymousAug 31, 2026 15:24
Re: #64
Sony's first-party lineup is a total wipeout, huh ("SFC" = forum shorthand for Sony First-party Company)
82AnonymousAug 31, 2026 16:10
Don't really care about Western games, but it'll probably come out next year
It was shown at Nintendo's Gamescom thing or whatever
83AnonymousAug 31, 2026 16:26
Re: #82
Borderlands 4, which was shown at last year's Tokyo Game Show, is indefinitely delayed though…
88AnonymousAug 31, 2026 16:45

With so many games releasing, of course a few are gonna get delayed
98AnonymousAug 31, 2026 17:59
Xbox Series S
Internal resolution: approx. 720p native
Frame rate: locked 30 FPS

Sounds like a low-CPU-load game, so maybe they're struggling with handheld mode? 🤔
99AnonymousAug 31, 2026 18:03
Re: #98
When switching to handheld mode, they have to instantly adapt to the lowered clock speed, so that could well be where they're struggling
Especially for developers without much prior Switch development experience
102AnonymousAug 31, 2026 18:23
Re: #98
If the CPU load is low, it should hit 60fps on Series S too, like Indiana Jones did
115AnonymousAug 31, 2026 20:03
By the way, this delay is specifically for the Japanese physical version — there's been no delay announcement overseas at all
A different publisher handles it in Japan, so something must be going on there

Looks like it'll release overseas normally within the year
120AnonymousAug 31, 2026 20:25
Re: #115
In past delay announcements too, they say "physical version" because of the translation, but the download version has been delayed right along with it
It's delayed overseas as well

[Release Delay Notice] Regarding the PS5/Switch 2 physical version of "007 First Light": the release has been delayed to May 27, 2026 to improve quality
128AnonymousAug 31, 2026 21:18
If they released it Elden-Ring-style, it'd outsell the other platforms — what a waste
129AnonymousAug 31, 2026 21:27
Re: #128
No way it'd sell that well lol
Elden Ring had already hit 1 million in Japan and 30 million worldwide before the Switch 2 version even came out
DMC5 bombed hard on it, remember
130AnonymousAug 31, 2026 21:37
Re: #128
Even Trails, which used to be glued to PlayStation, looks like it'll sell better on Switch 2 anyway

Background and Talking Points

The delay announced this time applies to the Japanese physical edition, and within the thread opinions split between claims that “the overseas version hasn’t been delayed” and counterpoints noting that past delay announcements actually covered the download version too — leaving it unclear just how much of this is a Japan-only issue. The debate over Switch 2’s performance isn’t unique to this title; it’s discussed as part of a broader trend of PS5-generation ports being repeatedly delayed or scrapped, and the perennial argument over where to compromise on frame rate versus graphical quality between platforms keeps resurfacing on the Geha board. What readers may easily misread is that the official announcement is worded as being “regarding the physical edition,” which on its own reads as if the download version is unaffected — but posters in the thread shared past experience showing that both versions were actually delayed together.
