A sale knocking Furyu’s RPG “CRYSTAR” down 95% from its regular 5,775 yen to just 288 yen has kicked off, sparking discussion on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board. Furyu has pulled similarly steep discounts before — on titles like “THE MONARCH” — and many commenters noted a sense of déjà vu with remarks like “Furyu again, huh.” The thread’s discussion ended up less about the low price itself and more about a tangle of two things: an assessment of the game — “the story isn’t bad, but the gameplay is rough” — and the broader low reputation of Furyu and similar makers like Idea Factory.

CRYSTAR
5,775 yen → 288 yen
95% OFF
3AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:13
Wait, didn't Monarch also get a one-coin sale? (a "one-coin sale" means the price drops to about the value of a single coin — basically pocket change)
4AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:13
This looks like the kind of game that'd make you depressed just from watching it
5AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:14
Furyu again, huh
Between this one and Monarch, probably a lot of people with both sitting unplayed in their backlog
6AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:16
The story was good but the gameplay is seriously, genuinely garbage
7AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:16
Furyu games feel like something only the most hardcore, niche otaku even among anime fans would bother playing
8AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:17
There's no way I'm paying full price for a Furyu game
9AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:17
You guys!!
Didn't you say you'd buy it at this price?!
10AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:18
Furyu just doesn't have enough name recognition, so once they're turning a profit it makes sense to dump copies cheap
The people who get hooked will probably buy the next new title at full price anyway
Actually, did they get a taste for this after the Caligula sales or something?
11AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:19
At this price it's basically a trap that makes you think 'eh, might as well spend a bit more and grab the limited edition'
12AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:20
Isn't the story connected to that 'Crime Light' game coming out next month?
15AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:21
Guess Furyu's actually got some financial muscle after all
23AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:30
Re: #15
Well, their real business is photo booths (purikura machines)
16AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:24
95% off feels pretty desperate, lol
17AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:26
At least it's got over 3 hours of content, so it's probably worth it
19AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:28
No way
I already bought it back when it was 500 yen
20AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:29
I'd rather buy an Arcade Archives game than a Furyu game
21AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:30
Honestly the story's mediocre too, it's just an atmosphere-over-substance game
22AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:30
Nanana being cute
and the angel being a total piece of garbage
that's literally the whole game right there
24AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:30
No matter how cheap it is, time's limited
If I've got time to spare for a Furyu game, I'd rather spend it building stuff in Valheim
25AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:32
Re: #24
Yeah fair, that's true
There's just so many games out there these days
27AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:34
Even at a stupidly low price, people are still saying they'd rather spend their time on other full-price games — that's peak Furyu, lol
28AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:35
At this price there might be people who buy it on a whim, but… it's Furyu, so
29AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:38
Same comments got written during the last one-coin-ish sale too lol
34AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:48
Never played it but turns out I somehow own it lol
Probably bought it during an earlier one-coin sale and just let it sit
35AnonymousOct 18, 2026 16:51
From a gaming-forum standpoint, is it fair to say Furyu's actually a solid company — no careless PR blunders, no shady business practices like Square Enix or Atlus, just quietly cranking out otaku games?
44AnonymousOct 18, 2026 17:10
Re: #35
You mean a company nobody asked for, quietly cranking out inferior knockoff games
45AnonymousOct 18, 2026 17:12
Ripping off a good game is fine in itself
The problem is why it always ends up worse
If you're gonna copy it, at least beat the original at something
50AnonymousOct 18, 2026 17:23
Re: #45
Well, even ripping something off takes some skill…
47AnonymousOct 18, 2026 17:18
Furyu
Idea Factory
Compile Heart
I'd rather buy a hula hoop than any of these
75AnonymousOct 18, 2026 19:10
Re: #47
Aren't the bottom two actually the same company?
56AnonymousOct 18, 2026 18:15
Is there seriously nothing nice to say about this?!
59AnonymousOct 18, 2026 18:24
Re: #56
They're a popular publisher among backlog hoarders
People buy the games and nobody even downloads them
65AnonymousOct 18, 2026 18:37
Monarch opened my eyes, I'm done buying their stuff
I'll buy it if Caligula 3 ever comes out though
68AnonymousOct 18, 2026 18:46
Re: #65
Both the producer and director left, so they probably can't make it anymore
74AnonymousOct 18, 2026 19:08
Not totally sure, but out of all the SNES-tier-graphics RPGs released in roughly the last decade, is there even one that matches the quality of, say, Dragon Quest V or Glory of Heracles III?
80AnonymousOct 18, 2026 19:52
Re: #74
You can play the handheld version of Glory of Heracles on Switch
93AnonymousOct 18, 2026 21:57
They're releasing some random TPS next week and it's getting zero buzz — if you're gonna run a sale, at least pair it with promoting the new release
95AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:08
Re: #93
If you play the demo you instantly go 'yep, that's Furyu alright,' so I doubt it'll sell
It's lacking in a lot of ways
100AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:43
The action parts are pretty bad, but they were even worse before the update, so some of these impressions are from that earlier period
There's at least some motivation hooks like gear drops and slowly filling out a monster compendium, so it's manageable
101AnonymousOct 18, 2026 22:48
Re: #100
If it's still that bad after the update, that's rough
Wasn't that game a PS4 exclusive when it launched?
Background and key points of this discussion
“CRYSTAR” is a PS4/Switch RPG Furyu released in 2018, and the company has a history of repeatedly discounting its own titles — like “THE MONARCH” — down to near one-coin prices within short windows. Since Furyu’s actual core business is photo booth (purikura) machines, thread posters see this as a strategy to make up for the game division’s low brand recognition: hook in new players with cheap prices, then sell sequels and series entries at full price. Opinions split between an assessment of the game’s actual quality — “the story is decent, but the action and battle system are rough” — and a more general bias against makers in the same bracket as Furyu, Idea Factory, and Compile Heart. One thing readers might easily misread: a 95%-off price sounds like a desperate clearance sale on the surface, but commenters in the thread also pointed out that “it’s a fair price for the amount of content” and that “they’ve run similar sales before,” meaning the number itself isn’t necessarily proof of poor quality.
