The story
In the November issue of CoroCoro Comic, a manga artist who drew a promotional manga introducing the PS5 posted on his own X account that he owed “an enormous, enormous debt of gratitude to Sony-sama” and that he wanted to “recommend it without any collusion.” Since the phrase “without collusion” itself refers to the kind of improper relationship it’s denying, deliberately spelling that out ended up inviting more suspicion instead — and it became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry board (Geha). Most of the thread mocked the clumsiness of his word choice, but another of his tweets was also quoted, showing the work had actually been commissioned by the magazine’s editorial department — leading to differing takes on whether this was a voluntary pitch or just a paid assignment.
My character Keshikasu-kun has a manga recommending the “PlayStation 5” in this month’s CoroCoro (November issue, now on sale)-kasu.
I owe Sony-sama a huge, huge debt of gratitude.
It’s “Jak and Daxter.”

What people said
we're comrades, right?
they say stuff they didn't need to, hand the detective a clue, and end up busted.
???: "Huuuh~? That's weird~. Didn't you just say you were in collusion, mister?" (riffing on a famous detective-manga catchphrase)
Don't pull that stuff in CoroCoro.
The PS5's library is basically nothing but gory murder games — there's nothing on it CoroCoro's readers could actually play…
If he'd just posted the manga on X saying "I drew this collusion-manga because I love love LOVE Sony-sama!" would nobody have complained?
summoning people to Kyoto,
and showing up five or six strong to a meeting two people could've handled, demanding fancy Imahan bento boxes from the host. (Imahan is a famed, pricey sukiyaki restaurant)
"If they want collusion"?
Sorry, who said that?
They say what's scary in war isn't a capable enemy but an incompetent ally.
I think I read this in a Geha thread a few years back —
apparently CoroCoro's run gaming-PC features too, so maybe there's a gadget nerd somewhere in the editorial department.
That's the hardest I've ever laughed reading CoroCoro.
This month's CoroCoro has a PS5 feature, and he's clearly stated he was commissioned to write it himself.

That makes it even worse — did you actually read what he wrote?
> "The 8 commissioned pages weren't enough to convey all of PS5's appeal, so I'm using my own regular pages to tell you even more! Cramming my hobbies into my job — that's my signature move showing through!"
It pays more than his usual page rate.
The only catch is rights-wise it probably can't be collected into a tankobon.
No — he's the one who brought up words like 'debt of gratitude' and 'collusion' himself. What are you even talking about.
a game console that needs a disclaimer attached every single time lol
Because people will straight-up call the publisher to complain…
So he just moved for the money, that's all.
Not to put it harshly, but even though Keshikasu-kun's been at this for years,
his income isn't anything special,
so even if he didn't really want to, he'd jump at it.
Then just say that from the start.
He didn't need to be bluntly honest about doing it for the money, but by the same token he could've just quietly drawn the manga without any comment at all.
Saying something like "I drew it because I love the series" would've been healthier.
Instead he hedged his bets with "it's not collusion" and dug himself straight into a hole.
Lol, taunting the author of a manga that's been running for over a decade with cancellation jokes.

Gratitude and genuine fondness aren't the same thing, so it can't be helped.
Background and Key Points of This Topic
The phrase “without collusion” that sparked this discussion appears to have been meant to emphasize that there was no improper relationship involved. But because “collusion” itself almost always refers to an unhealthy relationship, deliberately using the word ended up inviting the very suspicion it was trying to deny. According to another of the artist’s tweets quoted in the thread (post #62), the PS5 promotional manga in question was an 8-page piece commissioned by CoroCoro’s editorial department — meaning the artist didn’t pitch it entirely on his own initiative. At the same time, he revealed that he used his own regular pages to voluntarily promote the PS5 further, beyond what was commissioned, saying he wanted to “tell you even more.” This two-step combination — a commissioned job plus a voluntary extra push — appears to be one reason suspicions of collusion arose. It’s also worth noting that the artist has previously drawn CoroCoro manga featuring Western PlayStation titles like “Jak and Daxter” and “Ratchet & Clank,” so his enthusiasm for the PS5 isn’t limited to this one instance.
