  • Ramen Jiro Kyoto Store’s Customer Service Scandal Rages On Despite Official Denial

A firestorm broke out after a customer at Ramen Jiro’s Kyoto location posted on X that a staff member had yelled at them. The Kyoto store responded on its official X account, saying that after checking with staff, “no such conduct took place,” and stated it would not tolerate yelling at customers who had done nothing wrong — but even after that statement, more and more people online reported receiving the same kind of treatment, and the controversy shows no sign of dying down. On 5ch, a thread saw opinions ranging from the taste of Jiro-style ramen and its customer base to debates over who was really in the right, the staff or the customers.

Popular ramen chain “Ramen Jiro Kyoto Store” has found itself embroiled in an online controversy over how its staff treat customers. After a customer posted on X that they’d been yelled at by an employee, the post spread rapidly, drawing heavy criticism of the staff’s attitude.

In response, the Kyoto store stated on its official X account that after checking with staff, “no such conduct took place.” It said it would continue investigating the facts, while making clear it would not tolerate suddenly yelling at customers who had done nothing wrong.

Even after the store’s explanation, however, voices online reporting similar treatment — and general dissatisfaction with the staff’s conduct — have kept piling up. Why won’t this controversy settle down?

First-timers have no way of knowing the rules
Shouldn't the shop be doing more to inform people?

Background and Key Points of This Controversy

Ramen Jiro is known for its distinctive ordering ritual, called the “call,” along with a set of unspoken rules among its regulars (“Jirolians”) — a structure that makes it easy for first-time customers unfamiliar with the etiquette to clash with staff. This latest controversy pits the customer’s claim of being yelled at squarely against the store’s statement that “no such conduct took place,” and without objective evidence like security footage being made public, it’s hard for outsiders to judge who’s telling the truth. The rise of the term “customer harassment” (kasuhara) in recent years reflects real struggles in the restaurant industry with dealing with abusive customers — but there are also concerns that the term is being used as cover to justify overly aggressive responses from the staff side. The discussion thread also branched out into Jiro-style ramen’s particular customer base and its sodium content, revealing a complexity that doesn’t boil down to a simple question of whether the shop or the customer is at fault.

  • Shampoo Hat’s Koi Announces Oropharyngeal Cancer Diagnosis, Pausing Activities at Stage 1

Koi (50), of the comedy duo Shampoo Hat, revealed on October 13 via his own YouTube channel that he has oropharyngeal cancer and will be pausing his activities for treatment. He also disclosed that he first noticed a lump in his neck in August and underwent testing at a cancer center in Osaka. Reactions on the thread were split between surprise that the cancer was only “stage 1” despite the lump reportedly being big enough to notice just by looking, speculation that his lack of energy in the months before the announcement may have been due to concerns about possible metastasis, confusion over conflicting reports on whether HPV infection or drinking/smoking was cited as the cause of the pharyngeal cancer, and discussion of who might fill in for him on the horse-racing show he appears on.

Koi (50), of the comedy duo Shampoo Hat, updated his YouTube channel “Koi-chan Paradise” on the 13th to announce that he will be pausing his activities to undergo treatment for oropharyngeal cancer.

On August 18, Koi revealed on social media that he had a lump in his neck, and in a video posted on the 24th he reported, “It’s been decided that I’ll be getting tested on the morning of Friday the 28th at a cancer center in Osaka.” He explained that his regular doctor had told him he should get checked at a larger hospital.

Regarding the test, he said, “I feel like I can accept whatever the result is,” and shared his state of mind: “Of course, there’s still a part of me that’s a bit optimistic, thinking I’ll probably be fine. But, well, I am going to the hospital with the worst-case scenario in mind, just in case.”

    127AnonymousOct 13, 2026 21:59
    Re: #117
Thinking about it normally, yeah, probably Tetsuji.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Oropharyngeal cancer develops at the base of the tongue or the upper pharynx. It has traditionally been attributed mainly to drinking and smoking, but in recent years a link to HPV (human papillomavirus) infection has also been noted. The thread’s confusion between what was reported and popular assumptions stems from the fact that both of these causal pathways coexist — there’s no way to determine which one actually applies here beyond what Koi himself or the medical institution discloses. Also, “stage 1” is a staging classification based on tumor size and spread, which doesn’t necessarily correspond to how large a swelling looks from the outside, so it isn’t unusual for a case with a visibly large lump to still be caught early with a good prognosis. The multiple posts noting that he seemed unwell in the months before the announcement likely overlap with the period he spent waiting on detailed test results, including whether metastasis had occurred.

  • Inoue and Matsunaga’s Osaka Event Falls on a Likely Kōhaku Announcement Date — Growing Theory Juice=Juice Got Snubbed Again

It was announced that Juice=Juice’s Rion Inoue and Ria Matsunaga will appear at a Hello! Project Shop talk event in Osaka on November 14, and Hello! Project fans are buzzing over whether this overlaps with the expected candidate dates for NHK’s Kōhaku Uta Gassen lineup announcement and press conference. On the thread, fans lined up past Kōhaku press conference dates (weekdays between November 13–19 from 2020 to 2025) and cross-checked them against the group’s tour and school-festival schedule. Opinions split between those who think “Juice=Juice must have turned down Kōhaku or missed the cut this year” and those who argue “depending on the timing, they could still make both the press conference and the local event work.”

    Re: #79
If they miss out this year, it makes next year's 30th-anniversary appearance look unlikely too — that'd suck.

    Background and Key Points

The press conference tied to the Kōhaku Uta Gassen lineup announcement is traditionally held on a weekday in mid-November, and the thread lays out the dates for the past six years (2020–2025). Within Hello! Project, no group has appeared on Kōhaku since °C-ute did, and while the thread never states outright that Juice=Juice has no Kōhaku history of its own, that’s an assumption worth keeping in mind as background. The talk event itself is a small-scale affair at a regional Hello! Project Shop, and depending on the timing, there’s room to make both the press conference and the event work. The thread split over how to read the event’s existence — as a schedule slotted in precisely because Kōhaku wasn’t expected, or as mere coincidence — and as of this writing, NHK has not announced either the Kōhaku lineup results or the official press conference date.

  • Voice Actor Agency INTENTION to Dissolve — CEO Kenichi Suzumura’s Adjustment Disorder Cited as Reason, 5ch: ‘Couldn’t Handle the Stress of Running a Company’

Voice actor Kenichi Suzumura (52), who heads the talent agency INTENTION, announced on the company’s official website that it will dissolve on March 31, 2027. The reason given is the adjustment disorder Suzumura revealed he had back in February this year; the agency’s roster includes many popular voice actors such as Yuichi Nakamura, Yuma Uchida, and Nao Toyama. On 5ch’s Geinou/Sports News+ (芸スポ速報+) thread, users exchanged a wide range of opinions — questioning what exactly ‘adjustment disorder’ means, speculating on how management could collapse despite having so many popular talents on the roster, wondering how dissolution happened even though there was a co-representative, and guessing where the agency’s talents might move to next.

    October 13, 2026, 7:14 PM

The voice actor talent agency “INTENTION,” headed by Kenichi Suzumura (52), updated its official website on the 13th, announcing that the company will dissolve on March 31, 2027. The reason cited was the adjustment disorder Suzumura disclosed in February this year.

The official site stated: “We regret to announce that INTENTION Co., Ltd. will dissolve as of March 31, 2027. The reason is the illness of our CEO, Kenichi Suzumura — adjustment disorder.”

Background and Key Points of Discussion

“Adjustment disorder” refers to a condition in which a person develops psychological or physical symptoms in response to a specific identifiable stressor; it’s often distinguished from depression in that recovery is expected once that stressor is resolved or removed. Kenichi Suzumura disclosed his own adjustment disorder back in February this year, and this dissolution can be seen as an extension of that same situation. Notably, INTENTION dissolved despite having a co-representative on board, which prompted questions on the thread like “couldn’t they have handed the top job to someone else and kept the company running?” Agencies where a voice actor also serves as company president have seen similar issues before — Yoko Hikasa (health problems) and Tomokazu Sugita (the management burden after going independent) are past examples that came up — and the difficulty of balancing acting work with management duties is a theme that keeps coming up within the industry. As of this article, there’s no official word on whether the agency’s talents will go freelance or move to other agencies, so it remains purely fan speculation for now.

  • System Outage at PayPay Securities Halts Japanese Stock Trading

On October 13, 2026, a system outage hit smartphone brokerage PayPay Securities, making it impossible to buy or sell Japanese stocks. Reports poured in on X (formerly Twitter) and 5ch almost immediately from users unable to place sell orders as their SoftBank shares and other holdings dropped in value. Screenshots showing a “no estimated time for recovery” message circulated in the thread, along with worries about margin calls and fears that PayPay Card and PayPay Bank — fellow members of the SoftBank group — might go down too. Meanwhile, some users offered an explanation suggesting the outage stemmed from flaws in PayPay Securities’ own order-execution system, turning the discussion into more than just another “here-we-go-again” outage joke.

    Re: #93
With PayPay Securities, instead of customers placing orders directly on the exchange, the brokerage itself quotes an internal price, executes the trade against that, and then buys/sells the actual shares on the exchange afterward
It's a service where the brokerage takes on the risk in exchange for instant execution, so if a trade ends up executed at a price way out of line with the real market, the brokerage could take a massive loss — that would be a serious problem
So they have to track price movements and reflect them in their quoted price, but when that tracking isn't working properly, they just halt trading instead

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Unlike brokerages such as SBI Securities that route orders directly to an exchange, PayPay Securities uses a system closer to ‘over-the-counter dealing,’ where the brokerage itself quotes an internal price against investor orders and executes the trade that way. As the explanation from commenter No. 106 in the thread lays out, this approach offers the convenience of instant order execution, but if the brokerage can’t reflect real-time market price movements in its quoted price, it has no choice but to halt price quoting altogether. This outage is believed to stem from exactly that kind of price-reflection failure. The thread also saw some confusion over whether this is “the same as SBI Securities,” along with questions about how much system infrastructure PayPay Securities actually shares with PayPay Card and PayPay Bank. However, while these companies share a capital relationship, their systems run on separate infrastructure under separate companies, and nothing in the source material confirms that this outage directly spread to them.

  • Foreign Media Flags 0.13-Second Input Lag in Dragon’s Dogma 2 on Switch 2

Foreign tech-analysis outlet Digital Foundry reported that Capcom’s open-world RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 has 0.13 seconds (8 frames) of input lag on the Switch 2. The same article also pointed out reduced vegetation density, simplified screen-space reflections, and frequent pop-in. In the resulting 5ch thread, comparisons were drawn to figures from the same outlet’s testing of Stellar Blade on Switch 2 (19 frames of lag) and Portal on Switch 2 (4 frames of lag), sparking debate over whether the lag stems from the Switch 2’s hardware limitations or is a problem specific to its frame-generation feature.

Switch 2’s Dragon’s Dogma is in really rough shape

0.13 seconds (8 frames) of lag

The simplified lighting looks flat, especially noticeable in indoor areas and hubs. The Switch 2 version also shows reduced vegetation density, simplified ground clutter, lower-resolution screen-space reflections, and fewer shadow-casting lights. Pop-in — where characters suddenly appear just a few meters away — also remains an issue.

    Re: #91
Console peasants think PS graphics are good in the first place
Consoles are equally garbage on both graphics and lag lol

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Frame lag” refers to the number of frames between an input and its appearance on screen; 8 frames works out to roughly 0.13 seconds at 60fps. The comparison figures raised in the thread — Stellar Blade (19 frames) and Portal (4 frames) — come from the same outlet, Digital Foundry, measuring various Switch 2 titles, and all are reported specifically as lag tied to the use of frame generation (frame interpolation). The point of contention was whether this lag is “a flaw unique to the Switch 2 version” or “something inherent to console ports in general, or to frame-generation technology itself” — the comment about Monster Hunter Wilds having lag on every platform fits into that context. It’s also worth noting that while the article is harsh about the simplified graphics, it simultaneously praises the development effort behind squeezing a major open-world title onto low-spec hardware — so it isn’t a simple one-sided takedown.

  • Hololive’s Himemori Luna Drops New Song, 5ch Says ‘This Slaps’

A chat thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (anything-goes live-commentary) board blew up after someone posted video of Hololive’s Himemori Luna performing her new song “Puripuri Princess.” Dance-cover clips and the original music video got shared again and again, drawing plenty of praise like “this slaps.” But true to a chat thread’s nature, it also veered off into side debates — fans split over Hololive’s push to tie in with outside content, and comparisons of singing talent among the agency’s own members.

    A Soka Gakkai anime?

    Background and Key Points

Himemori Luna is a VTuber signed to Hololive, and the “Puripuri Princess” video shared in the thread was posted from multiple angles as her own original song and dance — including dance-cover clips and the official music video. Hololive has in recent years actively pursued collaborations and music tie-ins with outside content, and the early “mooching off other content” comments in the thread appear to reflect fans’ mixed feelings about this approach. On the topic of singing ability, posters compared Himemori Luna to other talents such as Hoshimachi Suisei, suggesting that opinions on individual members’ vocal skills are a point where fans often disagree. The thread also included some thinly-sourced speculation about cast members’ real ages and comments touching on religious groups and political demonstrations; these have been left out of this article since they risk making unfounded claims about real organizations and individuals.

  • A Month of Chest Pain and the Doctor Says “Nothing Wrong” — 5ch: “Everyone’s Heart Basically Hurts”

A thread went up on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board after a 22-year-old man posted, “My heart’s hurt for about a month now, I’m probably going to die.” According to him, the area just right of center on his chest hurts every time he moves or lies down, and even after visiting both a pulmonology and a cardiology department and getting an ECG and an echocardiogram, no abnormalities turned up. A poster claiming to be a psychiatrist showed up in the thread and, after asking about his age, the location of the pain, and how long it had lasted, suggested it could be “a chest wall condition, intercostal neuralgia, or possibly a psychological factor.” Meanwhile, other posters shared stories like “I was told there was nothing wrong at one hospital, but another hospital found an actual illness,” and opinions split over whether he should seek a second opinion even though his tests keep coming back clean.

For now I'd guess it's a chest wall condition, pleurisy, intercostal neuralgia, or a psychological issue
If a heart attack were suspected, a blood test would've been run first, and if CRP or WBC were elevated, they'd definitely have mentioned it. Pleurisy often raises CRP and WBC too (not always), so that would've been caught, and it can come with a fever
Given that, it's probably down to a chest wall condition, intercostal neuralgia, or a psychological cause.

    Re: #100
    Exactly this
But for me, every single place I went just told me there was nothing wrong, every time.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

ECGs and echocardiograms are effective for catching acute heart conditions like a heart attack, but symptoms caused by intercostal neuralgia, pleurisy, or stress often don’t show up in test results, so the pain itself can persist even after being told everything looks normal. Where the thread split was on how far to keep pushing with testing after one hospital says there’s nothing wrong. Some argued it’s fine to just wait and watch, while others pointed to experiences like “I went to a different hospital and they found something,” arguing it’s worth seeking a second opinion. It’s also worth noting that while a poster claiming to be a psychiatrist offered possibilities based on the described symptoms, a diagnosis made on an anonymous message board is only ever a reference point and is no substitute for an actual medical exam and proper testing.

  • JR East, Tobu, and 5 Other Rail Operators to Scrap Magnetic Tickets — Switching to QR Codes by Spring 2027

JR East, Tobu Railway, Keisei Electric Railway, Keikyu, and other rail operators — seven companies in total — have announced that starting in spring 2027 they will abolish magnetic tickets and switch to QR-code-based tickets. Each ticket will reportedly be assigned a unique code, with a system in place to invalidate any duplicated or reused codes. On 5ch forum threads, opinions were divided over worries about QR code forgery or duplication, how unstaffed stations would handle it, and differences in usability compared to contactless credit card payment.

“Keisei Electric Railway Co., Keikyu Corporation, Sendai Airport Transit Co., Tokyo Monorail Co., Tobu Railway Co., East Japan Railway Company, and Hokuso Railway Co. will replace magnetic tickets with QR-code tickets starting in spring 2027, changing how tickets are used.”

Person B travels from Tokyo to Tachikawa.

A buys a ticket all the way to Tachikawa, B buys one all the way to Akihabara, and they swap QR codes with each other.

If the distance traveled is short but there's a big gap between the entry and exit times at the gates, I think that triggers a stop. Gate pass-through times are logged server-side.

    Re: #129
If we're going that far, you can already pull that off today with two anonymous Suica cards. Obviously it's a crime though.
    134AnonymousOct 13, 2026 19:45
Won't it cause chaos if every rail company doesn't roll this out all at once?

What happens on through-service trains going from a QR-adopting line to a non-QR line?
    And the reverse — from a non-QR line onto a QR-adopting line?

Has that problem actually been solved?
Yui Rail doesn't run into this since it's a single standalone company.

Isn't the seven companies named in the thread title enough?

    Re: #134
We've already gone from cardboard tickets, to magnetic tickets, to Io Card, to Suica before, and there wasn't any real chaos. The gates just run both systems in parallel for a transition period.
    153AnonymousOct 13, 2026 19:48
It actually says right there that duplicated tickets can't be used.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Magnetic tickets rely on a special magnetic material, which makes maintaining ticket machines and gates expensive, so rail operators in the greater Tokyo area have long been weighing a shift to QR codes or IC cards. The QR code itself is a technology developed in 1994 by Denso Wave (then part of Denso) that spread overseas before making its way back to Japan — which is why some commenters in the thread describe it as being “reimported.” The new QR ticket system is expected to work by having the server manage a distinct serial number for every ticket issued and log the time each code passes through a gate, allowing it to detect duplication or double use. Given this management approach, most of the fraud concerns raised in the thread appear difficult to actually pull off. Meanwhile, in comparisons with contactless credit card payment, there’s a common misunderstanding that it only covers physical cards — it also applies to credit cards loaded onto smartphones — and the fact that individual operators want to preserve their existing IC card infrastructure, such as Suica, also appears to be shaping the pace of the rollout.

  • Why Does “Miimi” Get a Big “i” While “Chii-chan” Gets a Small One?

A thread on the Hello! Project board caught fire after a new fan got tripped up by the difference between the “Miimi” and “Chii-chan” spellings. Both nicknames sound similar when spoken aloud, so the simple question that kicked things off was: why is one written with a big “i” (い) and the other with a small “i” (ぃ)? The thread dug into whether the “i” is pronounced as its own distinct beat or is just a stretched-out vowel, whether the member herself has adopted an official spelling, and the fact that similar “Chii”-type nicknames — written as 「ちー」, 「ちい」, and 「ちぃ」 — actually refer to three completely different members. By the end, the discussion had spiraled all the way into Japanese “mora” theory (the basic unit of sound length).

    The 「い」in 「みいみ」gets a firm, deliberate push.

    Re: #70
And we're right back to square one.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

At the heart of the thread is the idea that writing the kana 「い」large or small (as a reduced kana) isn’t just a matter of preference — it reflects a real difference in “mora,” the basic unit of sound length in Japanese. A long vowel that simply stretches the sound, as in 「みーみ」, reportedly sounds different from a two-beat pronunciation that re-articulates the 「い」, as in 「みいみ」. Even more important is the fact that these spellings are tied to specific individual members: the thread cited examples like 「まーちゃん」(Sato Masaki) versus 「まぁちゃん」(Sudo Maasa), and 「ちーちゃん」(Tokunaga Chinami), 「ちいちゃん」(Okai Chisato), and 「ちぃちゃん」(Morito Chisaki). In other words, nicknames that sound nearly identical are kept distinct by changing how they’re written. There’s also the case of 「まーちゃん」, whose spelling was officially locked in during a Ustream broadcast — a reminder that management and the members’ own preferences, not just pronunciation theory, help decide these spellings. Readers might easily write this off as simple “fan spelling inconsistency,” but it’s actually a distinct system where differences in sound and the need to tell individual members apart are both at work.
