  • Got in Late on the Old NISA, Took a Huge Loss: 5ch Says ‘I Learned the Hard Way How Much Deposit Power Matters’

The thread kicked off with a post lamenting that the poster only used the old NISA (Nippon Individual Savings Account) for its final 8 months, leaving their unrealized gains disappointing. Other users quickly piled on with their own numbers: one claimed +128% under the old NISA, another said continuous max contributions since the system launched in 2018 had brought them to +224% (about 5.38 million yen in unrealized gains), and yet another said they’re maxing out monthly contributions of 300,000 yen under the new NISA. The discussion expanded into differences in “deposit power” (how much cash you can actually put in), the pros and cons of dollar-cost averaging, the benefits of daily versus monthly contributions, and the risks of picking individual stocks — with many commenters agreeing that the sheer size of your investment matters more than anything else.

People's accounts nearly doubled their principal — a genuinely absurd rate of growth — but I got cold feet and only put in a small amount, so mine barely grew at all.
    I lost this one…

    Re: #86
    It grows compound-interest style
With the S&P 500, you've been getting around 15% annual returns lately, so it's like multiplying by 1.15 every year
And within your NISA allowance, it stays tax-free no matter how many times it multiplies
    90AnonymousOct 13, 2026 18:20
My recommendation: set up daily contributions of about 100-300 yen into funds like the S&P 500, NASDAQ 100, or FANG+, whatever you can afford without strain
There are roughly 23 trading days a month, so that's a baseline of about 2,300 yen a month — if you can put in 10,000 yen a month, you could buy 100 yen a day across four different funds
Then just sit back and watch the price movements and your asset value
Keep it up for 3 years and you'll have tens of thousands of yen in unrealized gains on top of a few hundred thousand in principal — that's nothing to scoff at
    95AnonymousOct 13, 2026 18:22
    Re: #90
    Sorry, but why daily?
    Why not monthly?
    103AnonymousOct 13, 2026 18:26
    Re: #95
Because you can capture the daily ups and downs at the smallest possible unit
I mean, 10,000 yen a month is fine too — it's basically a rounding error, but buying daily lets you buy more when it dips and less when it rises, in finer increments, and that adds up
I'd guess it's worth about a 0.5% edge per year, though that's small enough to get wiped out by a single day's price swing
    105AnonymousOct 13, 2026 18:27
    Re: #95
Different person here, but I really recommend daily buying because it keeps your mental state stable
I switched to daily purchases myself around my second year of investing
Especially when the index drops, you end up feeling more happy that you got to buy more today than upset that it dropped
During COVID I actually switched back from monthly to daily buying
    109AnonymousOct 13, 2026 18:29
    Re: #103
    Re: #105
So even if it's just a rounding error, it still helps and keeps you calmer, huh
Alright, I'll give it a try, thanks
I put in 40,000 yen a month, so I guess I'll switch that to about 1,300 yen a day
    114AnonymousOct 13, 2026 18:32

40,000 yen a month? What are you, some kind of elite?
    118AnonymousOct 13, 2026 18:37
    Re: #109
Look at the past price charts and brace yourself — there will be phases where it drops by double-digit percentages

Even through every "XYZ Shock!" crash or times it got cut in half, it's bounced back each time and kept hitting new all-time highs — that's where we are now

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The old NISA system (both the General and Tsumitate/installment types) stopped accepting new investments at the end of 2023, with the new NISA system taking over starting in 2024. Under Tsumitate NISA, the annual contribution cap was 400,000 yen, so the earlier someone started maxing it out, the more their assets tended to grow thanks to compounding. The thread’s disagreement centered on how to interpret “deposit power” (how much money you’re actually able to put in) — some pointed out that income level determines who can and can’t max out their contributions, while others argued dollar-cost averaging itself is a trap. There was also a mistaken assumption among some posters that Tsumitate NISA was mutual-funds-only; in reality, the General NISA allowance could also be used to buy individual stocks, which surprised several commenters in the thread. A few posters shared examples of profiting from individual stocks, but since the results were driven by which specific stocks they happened to hold, readers should keep in mind that this isn’t a reliably repeatable strategy.

  • Juice=Juice’s Miu Kawashima Makes Waves with Solo Spread in Fashion Mag anan

Miu Kawashima, a member of Hello! Project group Juice=Juice, is set to appear solo in the October 14 issue of fashion magazine anan, sparking a buzz on the 5ch message boards. Thread posters weighed in with takes like “she’s entered the next phase — breaking through as an individual now,” while others brought up past examples of Hello! Project members landing spots in anan, eventually spiraling into a debate over whether the magazine can even still be called a fashion magazine.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

anan (published by Magazine House) is a women’s weekly magazine that launched in 1970. In its early days it focused mainly on introducing overseas fashion, but over the years it has broadened its coverage to include beauty, lifestyle, and more. As pointed out in the thread, Hello! Project members have appeared in the magazine repeatedly over the years, with individual features piling up alongside full-group spreads. In this thread, some framed Miu Kawashima’s solo feature as “the next phase of breaking through as an individual,” while others noted that details like whether she’s credited or which issue number it is haven’t been confirmed — leaving opinions split until people actually see the printed pages for themselves.

  • Comedian Koji Higashino says the guy behind him at the movies wouldn’t stop singing

Comedian Koji Higashino said on his radio show that while watching the documentary “Do You Love Me? Kiyoshiro Imawano Taught Me,” a person sitting behind him repeatedly kicked his seat and kept singing throughout the screening. He also described the person’s appearance after turning around, saying it frightened him. On a 5ch Entertainment/Sports News+ thread, reactions split between skepticism that the story was exaggerated and practical advice for handling seat trouble, with many users chiming in with their own experiences of manners at movie theaters and other public venues.

Comedian Koji Higashino appeared on his radio program “Koji Higashino’s Honmono Radio” (ABC Radio) on the 9th.

He shared an anecdote from when he watched the film “Do You Love Me? Kiyoshiro Imawano Taught Me.”

Released on the 2nd, the film is a documentary about singer Kiyoshiro Imawano (who died at age 58), marking the 55th anniversary of his debut in 2025, weaving together electrifying live footage, rare archival material, testimony from people who knew him, and the way his spirit has been passed on to the next generation.

    Re: #70
Even at classical concerts, you sometimes get people flipping through the program during the performance. That's actually pretty noisy, but apparently it's a sound older folks in particular have trouble noticing.

Background and Key Points of This Story

The film Higashino watched was a documentary marking the 55th anniversary of Kiyoshiro Imawano’s debut — the seat trouble itself had nothing to do with the film’s content. Reactions in the thread split between skepticism that the story was exaggerated and practical advice, such as “even with assigned seating, you can move if there’s an empty seat” or “if it’s genuinely disruptive behavior, report it on the spot.” Note that the phrase “mohawk-like” simply describes the person’s hairstyle and isn’t a reference to any particular group or culture — an easy point to misread. Topics about movie theater seating etiquette come up regularly on 5ch, and this thread likewise drew a wave of posts from people sharing similar experiences.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Entertainment/Sports News+) thread “Koji Higashino frightened by disruptive behavior from the seat behind him at the movies: “He just kept singing… kept kicking my seat… and when I turned around, he looked kind of mohawk-ish…”“

  • Korean Indie Game ‘Teaching My Little Sister to Drive’ Goes Viral — But Still Can’t Turn a Profit

In October 2026, a driving simulation game in development by Korean indie studio Easy Fox, called “Teaching My Little Sister to Drive,” has been rapidly gaining buzz among streamers. Players sit in the passenger seat and give voice instructions to a “little sister” gripping the wheel, teaching her to drive; an official release is planned for January 2027, but only a demo is currently available. On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board, users shared word that despite the high buzz, the game hasn’t been monetized and is reportedly running a deficit of over 100,000 yen a day, sparking debate over whether this is a “hype-first” strategy aimed at landing investment, as well as discussion of the growing reputation of Korean indie games as a whole.

In 2026, advances in AI technology are expanding what's possible in games in all sorts of ways. Right now, in streaming circles, a driving simulation game called "Teaching My Little Sister to Drive" is generating major buzz. Let's compare it to other AI-powered games and think about just how groundbreaking its gameplay really is.
    ■ Driving lessons from the passenger seat, given by voice
The game is being developed by Korean indie studio Easy Fox, with an official release planned for January 2027. You sit in the passenger seat of a car and give voice instructions to guide the "little sister" gripping the wheel toward driving correctly.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Easy Fox, the studio behind ‘Teaching My Little Sister to Drive,’ is a small Korean studio, and according to the thread, despite spreading rapidly through streaming, its monetization system still isn’t in place — raising the classic indie dilemma of generating buzz without generating money. The thread’s reference to Palworld receiving investment from Sony is worth flagging for readers: Palworld isn’t a Korean title but a Japanese one from Pocketpair, cited as a precedent of an indie game riding big-company investment to success, which could easily be conflated with the Korean case at hand. Meanwhile, opinions split over whether Circana’s sales data backing Crimson Desert’s US ranking actually existed, though the numbers were ultimately confirmed via links to overseas media and official sources — a reminder that sales claims circulating online often need to be fact-checked.

  • Shinnosuke Abe’s Reported Return to the Giants Draws Comment from Rakugo Star Tatekawa Shiraku — 5ch Fires Back: “He’s the One Who Took Baseball Away From Himself”

Rakugo performer Tatekawa Shiraku posted on his own X account about reports that former Yomiuri Giants manager Shinnosuke Abe will return to the team, writing “I hope they welcome him back as manager” and “In the end, they took baseball away from the father she loves so much…” His comments became a hot topic. Abe had resigned as manager amid a power-harassment (pawahara) scandal, and Shiraku’s remarks were clearly meant to support his comeback. On 5ch, though, reactions leaned far more critical than sympathetic, with posts like “He’s the one who took baseball away from himself” and “Why is some outsider speaking for his daughter’s feelings?” standing out — opinion split over whether to weigh Abe’s own responsibility or his family’s situation more heavily.

    October 13, 2026, 16:00

Rakugo performer Tatekawa Shiraku (63) updated his “X” account on the 12th, commenting on reports that former Yomiuri Giants (professional baseball) manager Shinnosuke Abe would be returning to the team.

Shiraku brought up the news, saying, “Word just came in that the Giants are preparing to bring back former manager Shinnosuke Abe — who resigned over a power-harassment scandal — in a senior role.” He then shared his thoughts: “For now, I’m glad. Of course there are people saying it’s too soon and all that, but personally, I’m genuinely happy about it. If possible, I’d like them to bring him back as manager, though there are probably various hurdles in the way.”

It all depends on what he'd actually do once he's back.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Shinnosuke Abe resigned as Giants manager amid a power-harassment scandal tied to a domestic dispute, and the reports of his return to the team are essentially a follow-up to that episode. As a television personality, Tatekawa Shiraku frequently comments on both entertainment and sports news, and he has made headlines before for defending celebrities caught up in controversy. The split in this thread ran along two lines of criticism: that Shiraku was “too sympathetic toward someone who resigned through his own fault,” and that it was “inappropriate for an outsider to speculate about a family matter” in the first place — in both cases, the pushback was really aimed at Shiraku’s remarks themselves. Worth noting: no details about the resignation or the family situation beyond what’s in the original article have been confirmed on 5ch, and many of the speculative comments in the thread are unsubstantiated. The text also doesn’t specify the age or circumstances of Abe’s daughter, so readers are better off treating this as a story about Shiraku’s comments versus the noticeably cooler reaction to them, rather than as confirmed fact.

*This article is compiled as an excerpt and summary of the 5ch (Geino/Sports News+) thread “Tatekawa Shiraku relieved at reports of former manager Shinnosuke Abe’s return to the team: “I hope they bring him back as manager,” “In the end they took baseball away from the father she loves so much…” [Ailuropoda melanoleuca★].”

  • Jimon Teramon, 63, Reveals Kidney Stones Caused by 5 Liters of Green Juice a Day — Equivalent to 4 Truckloads of Vegetables

It’s come to light that Jimon Teramon (63) of Dachou Club developed urinary tract (kidney) stones, revealed by Yohei Hibara, the junior member of the comedy duo Mama Tart. According to Hibara, who made a surprise appearance on “Shimofuri Myojo’s All Night Nippon” in the early hours of October 9, the cause was the 5 liters of green juice (aojiru, a leafy-vegetable health drink) Teramon drank without fail every single day. That works out to roughly four truckloads’ worth of vegetables a day. On 5ch, this sparked discussion split between skepticism that the amount was exaggerated and nutritional points noting that even excessive vegetable intake can cause kidney stones.

One of the main causes of urinary tract (kidney) stones is oxalic acid, and it’s medically well established that continuing to consume large amounts of green juice made from leafy greens like spinach can make stones more likely to form. The thread split between suspicion that the “5 liters” figure was an exaggerated “uso-matsu”-style tall tale, and debate over the legitimate nutritional point that even excessive vegetable intake can cause stones — with back-and-forth between posters who prioritize salt and protein and those defending green juice. Jimon Teramon is a comedian well known for his obsessive devotion to food on gourmet TV shows, and this revelation has largely been taken as “a very Jimon-like story.” This article omits posts that are purely insulting or that mock Jimon’s character without relating to the main topic.

  • “Partners” Swaps Its Sidekick Back from Kameyama to Kōbe — 5ch: “Enough Already”

It’s been revealed that the partner role opposite Sugishita Ukyo (Mizutani Yutaka) in TV Asahi’s detective drama “Aibou” (Partners) is changing again, sparking reactions on 5ch. The partner role had returned to Kameyama Kaoru (Terawaki Yasufumi), but this time it’s swapping back to Kōbe Son (Oikawa Mitsuhiro). While some on the thread lamented “enough already, just let it end with Kameyama,” others defended the change on ratings grounds, pointing out that “even bringing Kameyama back didn’t boost the numbers.” Posters also raised the declining quality of the scripts, the shifting treatment of supporting characters like Aoki and Yonezawa, and the reality that a long-running show can’t easily end — sparking the kind of debate only fans who’ve followed the series across its many eras could have.

What are they even trying to do, just end it already

Easy fix — just bring back his son

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

“Aibou” (Partners) is a TV Asahi detective drama that premiered in 2000, in which a rotating cast of actors has taken turns playing the “partner” opposite Sugishita Ukyo, portrayed by Mizutani Yutaka. The original partner, Kameyama Kaoru (Terawaki Yasufumi), had stepped down once before returning, and this time the role is switching from Kameyama back to Kōbe Son (Oikawa Mitsuhiro). The thread was split between those who wished the series had been wrapped up with Kameyama for good, and those who argued the switch makes sense since ratings were stronger during the Kōbe era. Posters also raised pointed criticism of declining script quality, the treatment of supporting characters like Aoki and Yonezawa, and the difficulty of ever ending a long-running hit. One point readers might easily get wrong: a cast change doesn’t mean the show is ending — over more than 20 years, swapping out the partner role has practically become a running tradition of the series itself.

  • Yuki Kawamura Cut by the Clippers — 5ch: ‘Tough Being Only 172cm’

The NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers officially announced on the 12th (13th Japan time) that they have waived Yuki Kawamura (25), who had been on an Exhibit 10 contract with the team. Kawamura took part in Summer League as a member of the Indiana Pacers, averaging 17.5 minutes, 8.2 points, and 4.8 assists over 5 games with a 34.4% field-goal percentage, and reflected afterward, “Honestly, my play was terrible.” Following the announcement, 5ch users split over whether his 172cm height is simply the limit for competing in the NBA, or whether the real issue is his ability itself, with the discussion expanding into comparisons with Yuta Tabuse and debates over which sports best suit Japanese physiques.

Yuki Kawamura (25), who was on an Exhibit 10 contract with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, has been waived. The team made the official announcement on the 12th (13th Japan time).

Aiming to land a full NBA contract in his make-or-break third year, Kawamura joined the Indiana Pacers for Summer League. Over 5 games he averaged 17.5 minutes, 8.2 points, and 4.8 assists, with a field-goal percentage of 34.4%. “Honestly, my play was terrible,” he said, unable to hide his frustration.

    Re: #86
Japan's middle-aged and older crowd is only ever enthusiastic about lording it over the current generation of players.
Player development is at zero — or honestly negative — since the sport went pro, youth development has only gotten worse, yet nobody ever takes responsibility or pushes for reform.

And on top of that, the only reason the B.League has done well
is thanks to fans obsessing over good-looking Japanese players' faces —
the suits running things had nothing to do with it.

Seriously, there isn't a single competent person among the suits running Japan's sports organizations.

Same with the J.League — when Hara and Murai (former J.League executives) got cocky and expanded the foreign-player quota,
it triggered a mass exodus of Japanese players and the league fell apart.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Kawamura’s contract this time was an “Exhibit 10” — a non-guaranteed deal for players invited to training camp, not the same as making the NBA’s official roster. The path of Summer League → camp invite → waived is a common route for unknown young players and fringe prospects, and it carries far less weight than being cut during the regular season. The thread split between those who see his 172cm height as the main physical barrier, and those who acknowledge his offensive flair while pointing to defense and overall consistency as the real issues — with the gap to the NBA’s average point guard height (188–191cm) cited again and again. Comparisons were also drawn to Yuta Tabuse’s 2004-05 stint with the Suns (4 games played, cut that December), though it’s worth noting that the league’s competitive landscape and contract structures differ between then and now. On the whole, rather than a thread aimed at mockery, this is a discussion engaging with how hard it is for Japanese players to break into the NBA, viewed through height, player development, and comparisons with other sports.

  • Juice=Juice Keeps Selling Out, But No Bigger Venues Ahead — 5ch: “They Just Can’t Handle Their Own Popularity”

A debate has erupted on 5ch over Up-Front’s “no overreaching” management policy for Hello! Project. Even as Juice=Juice keeps selling out its solo shows, other groups like ANGERME and Tsubaki Factory are reportedly leaving seats empty at their own large-venue shows, fueling fan frustration that popularity and venue size just aren’t matching up. The backdrop: Up-Front has long championed a “sustainable Hello! Project,” deliberately avoiding rapid scale-ups. Thread opinion is split on whether this caution is sound management or simply a failure to invest in a group that’s actually popular.

    20AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:32
    Re: #18
For Juice=Juice specifically, handshake-event CD sales have already hit their cap, and the live Blu-rays would definitely sell if they were actually promoted — the real problem is Up-Front has zero interest in selling Juice=Juice's releases.
    19AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:31
Your thinking is strictly naive-kid level —
"Go go go! Now's the chance! Hype it up, hype it up, all the way!" — but
this agency is the exact opposite. It's "careful, careful" here. No overreaching. They don't even want a Dome!
    21AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:32
    Re: #19
The other Hello! Project groups' tickets aren't selling, so if anything they should be even MORE careful.
    43AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:48
You're all hyped up and riding high right now — your blood pressure's way too elevated. That's dangerous.
Let's bring it down. Calm down. Hit pause on the hype train for a second. Get a grip.
    47AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:50
    Re: #43
With all these lottery losses going around, blood pressure's already dropping.
    48AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:50
    Re: #43
Honestly, the "wolves" (slang for antagonistic fans trying to kill the hype) are working overtime.
    58AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:57
They got burned on arena tours with Morning Musume, so they're not doing that again.
    The agency's always sensible.
    59AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:58
    Re: #58
Even though [Juice=Juice] is more popular than Morning Musume was back then.
    63AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:59
    Re: #58
When was the last time they even did one, again?
    68AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:00
Juice=Juice's popularity has already dropped off.
    74AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:01
    Re: #68
Up-Front can give ANGERME — a group with basically zero popularity — a half-empty hall tour, so even if Juice=Juice's popularity has supposedly already faded, they could at least throw them an ANGERME-level tour.
    80AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:02
    Re: #68
Well, of course there's no buzz when they've been neglected this hard.
They keep shuffling them off to outside gigs and giving up on actually producing new work for them.
    75AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:01
Juice=Juice doesn't have much drawing power these days either, so this is just to be expected.
    77AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:02
    Re: #75
Is there even a single group in Hello! Project that DOES have drawing power?
    84AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:03
    Re: #75
Come on, time to face reality.
Juice=Juice is the only one selling out shows without padded "sword" tickets (5ch slang implying tickets propped up via bundling or resale schemes).
Both Morning Musume and ANGERME pull the seniority card to keep Juice=Juice out of the big halls, then turn around and pad their own numbers with "sword" tickets anyway.
ANGERME's been running a half-empty-hall festival every single day except opening night.
    82AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:03
Juice=Juice shot straight up to an altitude of 20,000 meters, and that's exactly the danger.
Hello! Project is built for skimming along just above the ground, not flying that high.
    85AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:03
    Re: #82
And how many tens of thousands of meters are =LOVE and Kawaii Lab flying at, then?
    86AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:03
    Re: #82
The other Hello! Project groups keep putting on half-empty shows one after another, so they're definitely not "skimming the ground" either.
    90AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:04
    Re: #84
Exactly why right now is the limit.
Scale it up and it'll go half-empty too.
    95AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:05
    Re: #90
There are already six Hello! Project groups running half-empty tours like it's totally normal, so why not let Juice=Juice run a tour big enough to go half-empty too?
    102AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:06
    Re: #90
Morning Musume and ANGERME get away with it, so it's fine either way.
In the idol world, what matters is how big a venue you played, not whether you actually filled it.
    130AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:12
Is "Juice" (5ch nickname for Juice=Juice) unhappy with their venue capacity?
Then just leave Hello! Project, drop the name and the songs, and go do their own thing.
    132AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:14
    Re: #130
When groups that can't draw like Juice=Juice can get booked into venues bigger than Juice=Juice's and leave them half-empty, of course people are going to be unhappy about that.
    135AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:16
    Re: #132
So go solo, then. You're unhappy, right?
    139AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:17
    Re: #135
There's no reason a group that sells out every single show should be the one to leave.
If anything, the agency would do everything it could to keep hold of them.
    140AnonymousOct 13, 2026 16:17
    Re: #135
If they're free to transfer agencies, I wish they'd hurry up and do it.
Hello! Project is seriously just getting in the way at this point.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Up-Front, which runs Hello! Project, has long preached a policy of avoiding reckless scale-ups in favor of “sustainability,” and this thread shows fans split over how to judge that management stance. There are two main points of contention. First, with Juice=Juice continuing to sell out its solo shows while other groups like ANGERME and Tsubaki Factory leave tickets unsold at large venues, is the allocation of venue size to match popularity actually fair? Second, posters point to Morning Musume’s past arena tour (referenced in the thread as having “burned” the agency) as the basis for its current caution, but the thread never explains specifically when or which tour this was or what went wrong, making it hard for readers unfamiliar with the history to follow. The disagreement is also rooted in a values clash unique to the idol industry — whether “selling out” or “scaling up” should take priority.

Project) thread “Up-Front: “Even if Juice=Juice got more popular than they already are, we have no intention of scaling up their activities beyond what they’re doing now — they’d just end up more popular than we know what to do with”.”

  • Shohei Ohtani Hitting .150 in the Postseason, Could Be Benched Next Game — 5ch: ‘He Can’t Even Make Contact’

As the Dodgers keep piling up postseason losses, U.S. media outlets have reported en masse that Shohei Ohtani could be left out of the starting lineup for the next game. His postseason batting average sits at a dismal .150 with zero RBIs this year, and fans are also debating how to square that slump with the seven years still remaining on his contract. In the 5ch live-reaction thread, opinions clashed between those who think he should rest on the bench for a while, those speculating he might be nursing an injury, and those defending him by pointing to his two-way heroics in last year’s NLCS — leaving the thread split on whether to keep playing him or give him a break.

Ohtani always goes full throttle on everything.

A guy that big running that hard like that is bound to wreck his knees eventually.

    He should quit stealing bases.
    46AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:39
    Re: #15
It's a soft, non-contact sport and running hard still gets you hurt?
What kind of wimpy sport is this lol
    16AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:30
Even if they bench him, just leaving him on the bench won't help — he's a reverse mood-maker, after all (he drags the team's energy down instead of lifting it).
    20AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:31
??: 'I took an arrow to the knee…' (riffing on the famous Skyrim meme line)
    22AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:32
If he keeps playing like this with no extra-base hits, he's basically guaranteed to get scapegoated for the loss anyway, so slipping away quietly now might actually be the smart move.
    30AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:34
Even if he keeps slapping singles from here, he'll just get scapegoated for it — better to sit the rest of the season out and rest up.
    33AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:34
It's not that his batted balls aren't carrying —
he's not even making contact with the bat.
    35AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:36
Can't help it if he can't hit, right? Just a slump, isn't it?
    36AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:36
People who aren't actually watching the games probably think 'he's due for a homer any minute now' lol, but if you're actually watching, it's nothing but despair. Today he even flung his bat to cover up getting caught looking on a strike. He's been putting on that same sorry display every single game lately.
    48AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:39
Let him contribute to the win by banging a drum on the bench. (a jab referencing Japanese cheer-squad drummers)
    53AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:40
    Re: #48
He could do that from the stands just as well, honestly.
    58AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:41
Benching Ohtani is fine by me, but then to be fair they'd also have to bench Smith, whose postseason stats are even worse than Ohtani's. Feduccia would upgrade the defense anyway.
    62AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:42
    Re: #58
Huh? There's no way a guy grinding it out at catcher — the toughest position on the field — is contributing less than Over-tani. (a mocking nickname for Ohtani, punning on 'done/finished')
    63AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:42
Why does he turn into Scrub-tani every postseason and World Series??? (another mocking pun on Ohtani's name meaning 'scrub/weakling')
    77AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:45
    Re: #63
Last year in the NLCS he single-handedly racked up 10 strikeouts and 3 home runs, though.
    87AnonymousOct 13, 2026 15:46
    Re: #63
Last year, fresh off rehab and still going two-way, he hit 8 home runs with 14 RBIs and went 2-0 as a pitcher with 28 strikeouts.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Ohtani has been under a long-term contract with the Dodgers since 2024, so the decision over whether to keep playing him or rest him carries weight beyond pure performance — it’s tangled up with his contractual standing too. The thread’s split largely came down to a clash between those speculating his slump stems from an injury and those invoking a tough-it-out mentality to demand he be benched; since the latter camp’s comments included body-shaming remarks and baseless speculation about his personal life, those were left out of this piece. Meanwhile, defenders pointed to his two-way production in last year’s postseason (his home run and strikeout totals) and argued it’s premature to judge him on one rough stretch. Neither Ohtani nor the team has issued any official statement on whether he’s actually injured or what the front office is thinking, so it’s worth noting that the thread’s speculation remains just that — speculation.
