  • Are the ‘Mōre-mi’ Newcomers Indifferent to Morning Musume? 5ch: ‘Who Needs Respect Anyway’

On a Hello! Project discussion board, a debate ignited over a post suggesting that so-called “Mōre-mi newcomers” — new fans said to have flowed in from Juice=Juice (“mōre” being slang for looking extra glam or photogenic, often via makeup/editing) — lack respect for Morning Musume, the group that has long served as Hello! Project’s flagship act. The thread saw a sharp clash between the counterargument that “they’re a separate group, so there’s no reason to show respect” and the criticism that “this dismisses the history Morning Musume has built up over the years.” The discussion also touched on generational gaps, including the uproar over Morning Musume’s suspension following a member scandal, and the fact that younger fans never experienced the group’s golden age in the first place.

Being Hello! Project's flagship act isn't going to change, and the history they've built up is different from Juice's.
    2AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:31
    Offshore: "I'm a Mōre-mi newcomer, but…"
    4AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:33
Maybe it's just that they don't respect Morning Musume '26 — Morning Musume as a whole is still respected, isn't it?
    6AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:36
"I like Toyota, but I don't really care about Daihatsu."
    Kind of like that.
    7AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:37
The second they get a TV appearance they start acting superior about it.
    8AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:38
Why would they have to respect a different group?
They're fans of Juice=Juice, you know?
Has Morning Musume ever done anything for Juice=Juice?
    9AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:38
    Forget Morning Musume —
these people don't even respect Juice=Juice's own graduated members.

    Re: #9
You don't need to respect the original lineup either, do you?
    10AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:39
They're just not interested in Hello! Project's history to begin with.
    11AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:39
I'd get it if they were boasting after actually surpassing Musume's golden age.

    Re: #11
It's Juice=Juice that's funding the "pension" for people who lived through Morning Musume's golden age and are still with Up-Front, you know? (slang for veterans coasting on past fame)
Yuko Nakazawa gets that, which is why she's solidly behind Juice=Juice.
    12AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:39
These are the glammed-up types who showed up to smash Hello! Project's old-fashioned traditions and old-guard otaku culture.

Why would you need to respect a separate group?
Saying stuff like that is exactly why people outside "the village" call this a religion.
    16AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:41
These are people who don't have a millimeter of respect even for Karin Miyamoto, Yukana Miyazaki, or Aarii Uemura.
They genuinely couldn't care less about Morning Musume, Angerme, or Tsubaki Factory.

That's basically a checklist of reasons existing fans hate them.
    18AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:42
For kids in their teens and twenties, the golden age happened before they were even born —
forget respect, some of them probably didn't even know it existed.
    19AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:42
These are people who fell in love at first sight with the "Danbara Eleven" (a nickname for a particular Juice=Juice lineup).
    21AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:43
Because there's no photo-op appeal with Morning Musume.
    23AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:43
Bottom line, they're a bunch who worship the Danbara Eleven and nothing else.
    28AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:44
Right now is a rebuilding phase for Morning Musume.
Let's look forward to the growth of Homame-Irairī-Getaharu, the 18th gen.
And also the new member coming in from the next audition, and the current trainees.
    29AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:45
Those "Mōre-mi newcomers" are trying to destroy Hello! Project.
    30AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:45
Morning Musume and Juice=Juice are completely separate groups anyway.
No need to respect each other.
    31AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:45
I honestly don't know what there is to watch in Morning Musume or how you're even supposed to enjoy it.
    33AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:46
Hello! Project is starting to collapse from within.
    34AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:46
If Juice=Juice just went independent from Hello! Project, that'd solve everything.
    36AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:48
Wasn't it right around when the Mōre-mi newcomers showed up that Morning Musume's Kitagawa got suspended over that scandal?

If you've got time to force other fandoms to respect the history you've built up,

maybe make sure Morning Musume's own members actually feel the weight of that history first.

I just wish they'd at least stay off "Wolf" (the nickname of 5ch's main Hello!Project board).
This isn't a board where newbies who only discovered Hello! Project through the Mōre-mi wave should be posting.
    60AnonymousOct 1, 2026 13:04
    Re: #59
But honestly, if we actually recruited all these new fans onto Wolf — and there are clearly tons of them — the board wouldn't have to complain about being dead anymore.
    61AnonymousOct 1, 2026 13:05
Even I, who isn't even a Musume fan, respect Hello! Project's history — Morning Musume's golden age, Aya Matsuura, all of it.
These newcomers don't even have that much.

    Re: #66
It's actually the other way around — the old guard gets to act big precisely because the current members are selling well.
If the group had flopped and disbanded, the OGs would have nowhere left to appear.
Yuko Nakazawa understands that much, at least.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

Hello! Project is the umbrella talent-agency framework encompassing multiple idol groups, and Morning Musume has long held the position of its most storied, flagship act. Juice=Juice, meanwhile, has seen a surge in media exposure in recent years, and the new fans who’ve joined through that exposure are being dubbed “Mōre-mi newcomers.” The thread split over a single question: is there an obligation to respect a different group within the same agency? Those who say no emphasized each group’s independence — “they’re a separate group, so it’s none of their business” — while those who say yes took issue with what they saw as a dismissal of 29 years of history and achievement. Citing comments from Yuko Nakazawa, some pointed out that the current generation’s popularity is what sustains the OG generation’s activities, hinting at the complicated feelings surrounding this generational handover. That said, no concrete incident backing up the premise that these newcomers actually “lack respect” was offered within the thread itself — much of this appears to rest on individual impressions and gut feelings, which is worth keeping in mind.

  • Juice=Juice to Perform at Showa Women’s University Festival — 5ch Asks: “Can Guys Even Get In?”

It’s been announced that Juice=Juice will perform at Showa Women’s University’s Hitomi Memorial Hall on November 15 as part of the school’s “Cosmos Festival.” On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, the fact that the venue is a women’s university sparked a flood of posts debating whether male fans would even be let in, with comments like “Can you even get into a women’s university?” and “It’s way too scary imagining you old geezers getting in.” Users also pointed out past acts who played the same hall — iLiFE! in 2025, Da-iCE in 2024, and EXILE’s TAKAHIRO in 2023 — fueling talk about how star-studded the lineup has been. Meanwhile, unverified speculation flew around about everything from the performance fee to how far onto campus attendees would actually be allowed to go.

    74AnonymousOct 1, 2026 12:27
Pretty impressive that a university has its own 2,000-capacity venue

    Background and Key Points

Showa Women’s University’s Hitomi Memorial Hall serves both as the venue for the Cosmos Festival and, separately from the festival itself, as a multi-purpose hall rented out to outside artists. In the thread, the past acts mentioned weren’t clearly distinguished as having performed as part of the Cosmos Festival itself versus simply renting the hall for a standalone show — and some pointed out that even at the same venue, how far onto campus you’re allowed and how tight security is can differ between an actual “festival day” show and a “rented hall” booking. One post claimed the performance fee was “3 to 4 million yen,” but this is purely anonymous-board speculation, not a figure released by the organizers. Since this is a school festival, students and staff may get priority with limited general-admission slots, but the announcement doesn’t spell out detailed attendance conditions, so an official update will need to be awaited.

  • Juice=Juice’s Risa Irie Unseals Her 5-Year-Sealed ‘Soran Bushi’ Dance — 5ch: ‘Our Youngest Member Is Terrifying’

In a blog post dated September 30, 2026, Juice=Juice’s Risa Irie reported that she performed her “Soran Bushi” dance — a routine she had kept sealed away for over five years since first showing it off in her audition video — in a new TikTok video, after being egged on by her junior members (Ichika, Eba, Ringo, and Niina). The topic was reposted to 5ch’s Hello! Project board, where comments praised the group’s close bond. At the same time, it was compared to a Soran Bushi video from the popular TikTok-born group MeI, drawing sharp criticism that “MeI’s version is more serious and is actually going viral,” countered by claims that “in a direct collab, Juice=Juice’s account got more traction” — leaving commenters split on which approach to the dance was the right one.

That joke TikTok I mentioned on my blog the other day is up now 😂😂
    So get this 😂
Since I'm totally out of the loop on trends,
I had no idea this was even a thing,
and I happened to walk in on Ichika, Eba, Ringo, and Niina
saying "this TikTok trend is so good!"
and it turned into "oh, here comes the original!!" 😂
So I ended up dancing the Soran Bushi I'd kept sealed away for over five years since my audition video came out,
pushed into it by the youngest duo plus our fellow members 😂😂
    Niina told me,
"We'll just dance what we picked up, so Irie-san, please just do your fully trained Soran Bushi as-is!!"
and honestly, our youngest member is scary
And on top of that, Eba and Ichika were cracking up off-camera
    Hey!!! lol

These days Juice=Juice all chat together and eat meals gathered around a table, but the original members used to just sit backstage with earphones in, only ever looking in the mirror.

I've never forgotten the fun times and the frustrating times from those 7 years.
I often find myself thinking I don't want the younger members to go through that kind of experience.
I just want them to have only happy experiences and keep smiling forever!!

Watching Ninnin (a member's nickname), I've realized she's a really, really sensitive girl who pays close attention to people's expressions and behavior.
The "innocent and does whatever she wants!!!" side of her stands out easily,
but she also gets anxious about all sorts of things and cries when she's hurt, only to be totally back to normal ten minutes later, laughing like usual.
Watching her, I never get tired of it, and I think she's really cut out for show business!
It's fine! Just stay exactly as you are!
I think more than anything, what matters most is creating an environment where the younger members can feel comfortable.
Because it's all of you, the younger members, who will carry this group forward.
    8AnonymousOct 1, 2026 08:37

Guess she's dabbled in breakdancing a bit

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The “Soran Bushi” dance Risa Irie performed isn’t a Hello! Project audition set piece — it’s known as the signature bit she showed off in her own audition video. This time, she happened to walk in on her junior members getting excited about a trending TikTok trend, and ended up suddenly stepping in to perform the “original” version herself. Thread commenters found it funny that the group’s internal pecking order was flipped, with the younger members demanding the fully polished version from their senior. The group brought up for comparison, MeI, is a TikTok-born idol group produced by Rino Sashihara, known for performing the same kind of bit with a consistently serious expression throughout. On the thread, harsh opinions along the lines of “doing it as a joke kills the vibe” sat alongside counterarguments like “in a direct collab video, it was actually Juice=Juice’s account that gained more traction,” with the discussion centering on which approach — joking around versus playing it straight — resonates more on TikTok.

  • Morning Musume Fans Want 18th Gen Ready to Perform Now: 5ch — “No Time to Wait for Them to Grow”

Over the addition of Morning Musume’s 18th generation members, a view has been spreading on 5ch’s Hello! Project thread that fans wanted “ready-to-perform talent who could handle singing and live shows from day one, not rookies who need time to be developed.” Some in the thread pointed out that with graduations and health concerns piling up among existing members during this special 30th-anniversary period, there was a growing sense that the group lacked the people needed to carry it. On the other hand, there was pushback from the traditional view that “idols are something you nurture,” and opinions in the thread were split over how to approach the newcomers.

    Background and Points of Debate

Morning Musume is in the middle of commemorative projects marking its 30th anniversary since debut, and in the thread, some pointed out that with Oda Sakura’s graduation and throat trouble among existing members piling up at the same time, there was a growing sense that the group lacked the people needed to support it. Because of this, the dominant argument was that the 18th generation needed members who could become effective performers in singing and live shows early on, rather than rookies who’d need time to be developed. On the other hand, there was pushback rooted in the traditional fan-culture view that “idols are something you nurture,” splitting opinion in the thread over this push for ready-made talent. There was also mention of the rule of thumb that popularity rankings rarely change much from the order established when members join, raising the shared fan view that a newcomer’s first impression tends to determine their position going forward.

*This article is compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project) thread “We Wanted Ready-to-Perform Talent for Morning Musume’s 18th Gen, Not Kids…“.

  • Morning Musume。’26’s New Single Lands at #4 in Early Sales, Falls Short of Hinatazaka46, Kyanchu, and Tokimeki Sendenbu

The early-sale-day numbers for Morning Musume。’26’s new single “Lonely…But not Alone/Yes ka No ka Watashi ka” came in at No. 4, trailing Hinatazaka46 (371,479 copies), Kyanchu (176,674 copies), and Tokimeki Sendenbu (105,410 copies) — a result that became a hot topic on 5ch’s Hello! Project board. With the single also marking the last for members Sakura Oda and Maria Makino, the thread debated the sales structure propped up by one-on-one meet-and-greet events, the shift from CDs to streaming, and the circumstances behind Makino’s individual sales not being counted in the tally.

Background and Key Points of Discussion

CD sales for Hello! Project groups have largely been propped up by a culture in which fans ‘stack’ copies at each member’s individual meet-and-greet and bonus-goods events. Under Oricon’s counting rules, pre-order events only count toward official sales if they’re held within three months of release and after the product’s details have been publicly announced. The thread’s claim that Makino’s individual sales weren’t reflected in the final number appears to stem from a violation of this rule. Opinions in the thread split between the traditional view that CD sales measure a group’s momentum, and the counterpoint that the agency has shifted its focus to streaming distribution — with posters repeatedly comparing copy counts and Spotify play counts against other groups like Hinatazaka46, Kyanchu, and Tokimeki Sendenbu. Some also noted that Tokimeki Sendenbu’s count was inflated by this being their final single, suggesting it may be premature to use this single ranking alone to compare each group’s usual momentum.

※This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “[Breaking] Morning Musume。’26’s New Single “Lonely…But not Alone/Yes ka No ka Watashi ka” — Early-Sale Figures Not Disclosed, Lands at No. 4“.

  • Which Hello! Project members are secretly attending university? 5ch: “Don’t underestimate how low-profile we are”

A thread titled “Which Hello! Project members are secretly attending university right now?” went up on 5ch’s Hello! Project board, and posts speculating about individual members’ schools kept rolling in. Some claimed that members who skip college to devote themselves fully to the group get, upon leaving, the right to study abroad on the agency’s dime — though that’s never been confirmed. Others pointed out that several Juice=Juice members have taken a leave of absence or dropped out altogether due to their busy schedules, while some suggested a correspondence program like the Open University of Japan would make balancing school and idol work much easier. One blunt take that got a lot of agreement: “Hello! Project members aren’t famous enough for anyone to notice even if they’re quietly attending class.” The thread also lit up with name-dropped guesses — Murakoshi Arisa pegged for a MARCH-tier school (a group of respected Tokyo private universities), and Hamaura and others guessed to be at so-called “F-rank” schools (bottom-tier universities that are notoriously easy to get into).

No idea which university, but she’s definitely attending one.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

It’s worth flagging that the claim circulating in the thread — that members who skip college to devote themselves entirely to Hello! Project get the right to study abroad on the agency’s dime — isn’t an officially announced policy; it never rises above rumor or joke territory on the board. It is known that, in the past, some members have passed on enrolling in a regular university due to busy schedules, or took a leave of absence or dropped out while enrolled, and this thread’s speculation builds on that track record. The point that a correspondence program like the Open University of Japan would make it easier to balance schoolwork with idol activities also carries some real-world weight, since it’s an option actual celebrities do choose. Meanwhile, the remark that “they’re not famous enough to get caught” is half self-deprecating joke, half plain fact — it reflects how, even in the social-media era, outsiders have a hard time identifying someone unless that person reveals it themselves. Readers should keep in mind that posts naming specific universities are purely fan speculation, not information confirmed by the members or their agency.

Well, if any idol group belongs on this bill, it's gotta be BEYOO.

    Background and Talking Points

“IWA ROCK presented by e-Broad” is a rock festival produced by Football’s Nozomu Iwao, who is himself known as a Hello! Project fan, and this announcement of BEYOOOOONDS’ appearance was revealed as the highlight of the festival’s second edition. Tickets are priced at 7,500 yen, and alongside ACIDMAN, the bill features bands built around upbeat, hard-driving rock sound — a crowd quite different from the one BEYOOOOONDS usually performs for, which became the central topic of discussion in the thread. While some found it amusing that BEYOOOOONDS seemed to have been “thrown into” a genuine rock festival, others expressed unease about the mixing of two different fan cultures, including calls for fans to refrain from bringing glow sticks (“kinglade”) out of respect for the rock bands’ audience. It was also announced that the event date falls on Iwao’s birthday, prompting celebratory comments from the performers. Note: speculation in the thread about the agency’s reasoning for choosing BEYOOOOONDS has been left out of this summary, as it is unsubstantiated conjecture.

  • Juice=Juice’s New Song Tops 900 Million Plays — 5ch Skeptics: ‘Plenty of People Don’t Even Know the Original’

It was announced that “Moré! Mi Amore,” the song Juice=Juice released in October 2025, has surpassed roughly 900 million combined plays across social media, and a thread went up alongside news of the group’s new Nippon Broadcasting show “Juice=Juice Juicy Talk,” premiering October 4. While some posters genuinely celebrated the milestone, skepticism about the “total social media plays” metric itself stood out, with commenters pointing out that the actual Spotify play count sits at just 5.53 million and suggesting that most of the total likely comes from fan-made cover/dance videos. The discussion also spilled over into talk of a fan survey ranking artists for a possible Kōhaku Uta Gassen (Japan’s New Year’s Eve music special) appearance.

Juice=Juice’s first-ever regular Nippon Broadcasting show, “Juice=Juice Juicy Talk,” premieres October 4!

    mes.jp/main/html/rd/p/000001009.000060459.html

Juice=Juice’s song “Moré! Mi Amore,” released in October 2025, became a talking point for its catchy choreography and powerhouse performances, and has now surpassed roughly 900 million combined plays across social media. Having sparked a “Moré Mi” craze, the group has gone on to appear on numerous TV programs, music festivals, and commercials.

    22AnonymousSep 30, 2026 16:49
    Re: #21
Monaki's viral hit only gets about the same number of Spotify plays as 'Moré Mi,' but it's unquestionably treated as a hit song, so I don't think streaming numbers get weighted that heavily
Of course, more is always better though.
    23AnonymousSep 30, 2026 16:51
It's not that Juice=Juice itself is popular — the play count is only climbing because of the celebrities copying the dance
In reality there are tons of people out there who know nothing about the original Juice=Juice.

Add up every 'Moré Mi'-related video on YouTube and you're nowhere near 50 million
Even throw in TikTok and Spotify — the easiest platforms to game for numbers — and it still doesn't hit 100 million.
    28AnonymousSep 30, 2026 16:53
    Re: #24

The rule of thumb for 'total social media plays': 3 billion is the bare minimum, 5 billion is the benchmark to even register, and you don't get real name recognition until around 10 billion.

Come to think of it, there was a story on the Yahoo! front page today about a 'smartphone farm' (a click-farm operation using racks of phones to fake views).

    Background and Points of Debate

“Total social media plays” is a figure that adds together view/play counts across multiple platforms — TV, TikTok, YouTube, Spotify, and more — and it’s a metric record labels frequently use in promotional materials. As pointed out in the thread, this combined total also includes plays from cover/dance videos of the “Moré Mi” choreography posted by fans and other celebrities, so it doesn’t necessarily reflect awareness of the original Juice=Juice one-to-one. In fact, posters in the thread noted that the official Spotify play count sits at just 5.53 million — a full order of magnitude below what you’d expect from a genuine TikTok trending hit. The thread was split on how to read the sheer size of the “900 million” figure, with some praising the achievement itself and others arguing it’s ultimately just a number used for added prestige, given the nature of the metric. The topic of Kōhaku selection also came up, but that referred to a separate fan survey — it’s worth noting there’s no direct causal link between that and passing 900 million plays.

  • What Hello! Project Is Missing: ‘Elegant Big-Sister’ Vibes — 5ch: ‘Round Here, “Pretty” Doesn’t Mean “Beautiful”‘

A thread on 5ch’s Hello! Project board titled “What today’s Hello! Project lacks is members with that ‘elegant big-sister’ feel” took off, with names like Kudo Yume, Arisawa Ichika, Tanimoto, and Ebata coming up one after another. Some said that looking back across the group’s whole history, Maimi is about the only one who really fits the “elegant big sister” mold, and the thread split over how to define that grown-up quality as something distinct from just having a cute idol face. Others brought up height, a clean-cut look, and vocal power as criteria, turning it into a debate that went well beyond simple taste in looks.

    Re: #68
Rei Rei kind of gets shortchanged, what with everyone around her being tall or getting praised for vocal skill

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Hello! Project frequently brings in new members while they’re still in their teens, so the group as a whole tends to skew toward a “cute” image. As a result, members with a grown-up “elegant big sister” air are relatively rare, and even looking back across the group’s entire history, the thread could only really settle on a handful of names like Maimi and Ebata. Posters also pointed out that “kirei” here isn’t being used as a straightforward judgment of looks, but rather to describe a sense of cleanliness and composure — a different axis from simply ranking facial features. Several people cited height and vocal power as conditions, suggesting it’s not just visual factors but a member’s overall stage presence that defines that “big sister” feeling.

It's a holdover from the Tanihara era — the 9 o'clock hour is hard news, entertainment segments start after 9:50
And longer features run past 10:00
So it'll straddle 10:10 pretty much automatically, no adjustment needed

    Background and Discussion Points

Nonstop! is a Fuji TV information program airing weekday mornings, and “Star Makers” is a segment showcasing the behind-the-scenes side of idols and other talent. On the thread, users noted that the segment airs around the 10:10 mark almost every time, pointing out that this is a holdover from the scheduling policy set back when Shosuke Tanihara was the show’s MC — hard news in the 9 o’clock hour, entertainment coverage from 9:50 onward. The person seen in the lesson footage is believed to be Eiichi Sugai, who has long handled choreography for Hello! Project; the “getting buffer” comments weren’t meant as an insult but rather lighthearted banter among fans surprised by his physique change. Shinobu Otake’s appearance was a separate segment from the Juice=Juice feature, but the back-to-back airing order is what generated buzz — further details of the broadcast aren’t given in the source text.
