Gaming board braces for Metaphor’s ‘tomorrow announcement’ — turns out it’s just a tooth joke

The story

On 5ch’s Hardware & Industry (“Geha”) board, a post claiming “something will be announced about Atlas’s RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio on November 8” set the thread ablaze. Since a price revision had just been announced on November 6, posters braced for the same “complete edition” cash-grab seen with Persona 5 Royal and Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Opinions split on whether it would be a simple DLC or a full repackaged “complete edition” forcing fans to buy the game again. In the end, the actual announcement was just a goofy image about teeth, and the reaction was pure anticlimax after all that bracing.

Mystery

If they lowered the price because a complete edition is coming, that'd make sense
The DLC will probably run about ¥5000 and spark outrage lol
And then next year they'll drop a full packaged complete edition and spark even more outrage lol

Re: #6
If it's complete-edition DLC, that's not as bad
72AnonymousNov 7, 2026 22:57
Re: #6
There's always some idiot who buys it anyway, so they'll never stop doing this
8AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:24
They haven't denied doing a complete edition at all
It's definitely coming
9AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:24
They might announce a PS5 packaged release at the same time lol
10AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:24
It's gotta be DLC
If a complete edition were coming, there's no way they'd announce it before the Switch 2 version
13AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:27
Re: #10
They'll put out a packaged version next year
PS5 is ending physical discs, so they're bound to do it
11AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:25
11/6: price revision announced
11/8: complete edition announced

Wait, is that what's happening?
12AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:26
Hasn't the Switch 2 version not even released yet?
14AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:27
Alriiight, looks like Atlas is about to pull its 'usual' move lol
15AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:27
If a complete edition drops, I'll genuinely be done with them
Got burned by this with Megaten V too — if they pull a complete edition here, I'm never buying an Atlas game within a year of release again
16AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:27
So they finally switched from complete editions to DLC, huh?
22AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:30
Re: #16
That's been the case ever since Persona 3 Reload
17AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:27
I've learned that the best counter to the complete-edition racket is playing the early release, then watching the extra complete-edition content on video — best value, best time efficiency. Not buying again.
18AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:29
Gonna wait for the complete edition of P6 too
27AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:35
Re: #18
This game falls apart if you get spoiled, so the right move is probably to rush through it, sell it, and wait
There's also a chance it's just DLC
20AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:29
It's not 'being done with them' — Atlas wouldn't be Atlas without the complete edition
21AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:30
Re: #13
There's nothing wrong with releasing a packaged version by itself
What people call Atlas's 'complete edition racket' is the Persona 5 → Royal method of making you rebuy AND replay the whole thing, you get that?
28AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:36
Re: #21
It's getting criticized because they're releasing it as a packaged version
23AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:32
Doing a complete edition on top of a remake would be completely unhinged
24AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:33
Paying again I can live with, but doing another 100 hours from scratch again was absolute garbage
26AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:35
Re: #1
Zelda, Stellar Blade, FF7, GTA
Big names and heavy hitters are all trending at once right now
This is just riding the wave
There was some creepy weeb on the One Piece thread spamming the name for promotion, but who cares if you bring up Megaten there — One Piece is a mainstream manga
29AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:36
It could be an actual complete edition disguised as a 'remaster'
If it's DLC instead of a complete edition, maybe they've finally learned their lesson
30AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:37
If it's just DLC, the value of the standard edition doesn't drop
But once a complete edition comes out, the standard packaged version becomes worthless
Both Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei V standard editions ended up as 1-coin trash (in resale bins)
31AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:38
Re: #28
You really don't get it, do you…
Plenty of other companies sell a DLC bundle package for newcomers too, think about it a little
32AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:38
A lot of people see games as assets,
so plenty get angry when a complete edition comes out as a packaged release
Capcom read that mood and switched to including DLC via a paper voucher instead
35AnonymousNov 7, 2026 20:43
There's no point doing business with people crazy enough to think games are assets
Better to just cut them loose
54AnonymousNov 7, 2026 21:32
Re: #35
People like you are the minority
Games are assets now, that's the era we're in
Just look at the retro game market and you'll get it
52AnonymousNov 7, 2026 21:28
Since 'complete edition' gets slammed, let's just call it a 'big DLC' instead
62AnonymousNov 7, 2026 22:02
Re: #52
But then they can't sell it at full price
57AnonymousNov 7, 2026 21:37
At the shareholder meeting, someone pointed out that Metaphor's sales aren't growing as much as expected because people are wary of a complete edition — and they're still gonna do it??
58AnonymousNov 7, 2026 21:38
Re: #57
By the way, what did they answer to that question?
60AnonymousNov 7, 2026 21:41
I'd welcome it if it's a continuation after the main story ends, but I don't want it if it's extra story shoved into the middle of the main game
61AnonymousNov 7, 2026 21:48
Re: #60
Stuff inserted midway is just an excuse to make you rebuy the complete edition
Just like Dragon Quest XI S
84AnonymousNov 8, 2026 00:02
You guys: 'Is it Metaphor DLC or a complete edition, bring it on!!!!!'

Reality: 'Meta-teeth lol' (a pun on Metaphor/メタファー and 歯/teeth)

Must've been rough on whoever had to make this

Teeth?

Huh, this is Kinuta Dental Clinic (a Japanese dental clinic notorious for its relentless ads)

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The wariness toward a “complete edition cash-grab” stems from past precedent: Persona 5 lost resale value once Royal came out, and Shin Megami Tensei V got its own feature-packed complete edition in Vengeance. Because fans couldn’t tell how far to play without risking having to rebuy or restart, the same suspicion resurfaces with every new Atlas release. The thread split over where to draw the line — DLC is tolerable, but a full packaged “complete edition” is not — with reactions differing based on how much weight people put on resale value and games as assets. One post (#57) claimed that at a shareholder meeting, someone asked whether slower-than-expected sales were due to fans holding off in fear of a complete edition; if true, it suggests the company itself may be aware of this customer wariness. In the end, the “tomorrow announcement” turned out to be an unrelated joke about teeth, and the users who had braced hardest ended up the most let down. The episode itself isn’t aimed at disparaging any individual or company — it reads more as a case where frustration with past sales tactics got ahead of itself and came up empty.
