The story
Famitsu’s weekly sales ranking (Nov. 6 issue) has been updated, and the talk of the thread is that the PS5 version of “Marvel’s Wolverine” climbed back to No. 28 weeks after launch following a price cut to 3,980 yen. Posters note that the licensing deal reportedly requires sales of around 3.5 million units, and at the current pace hitting that target within the deadline looks tough. Meanwhile, “Demon Slayer”-related titles also saw a sluggish start, with some calling it an outright flop. Opinions split on whether to call this price-cut-driven comeback a “slow burn seller” or just a “fire sale,” and some pointed out that titles which keep selling new releases at full price might actually be the ones seen as overpriced.
What people said
Oh, really?
Classic Furyu.
Though the gap is only 800 units.
Quit bullying retailers already.
Bullying retailers?
You mean PlayStation, which wasted retail shelf space for years?
PlayStation games don't sell at all, so we can't even tell if it's 'green tea' or not — lucky, huh.
Could you say that in front of Mr. Wolverine?
In front of Mr. Saros?
Wolverine's excess inventory is putting company finances at risk, you know.
Do you even get that?
There's a line, even for jokes.

Showing us a video made by your own buddies doesn't really prove anything.
If 'this' isn't worth buying, then PS has zero games worth buying lol.
its drop rate this week is low and it's still high on the Amazon ranking,
so it's obvious it'll sell through during the year-end shopping rush.
They know better than anyone that trash-talking only works for the first little while.
According to Sony-hardware-fanboy logic, apparently that doesn't count as a bomb.
Wasted my time engaging.
Who else would it be besides an ID-hopper lol
The style of parading its own shame by charting via fire sale.
Spending big money to buy shame — very on-brand for Sony lol
Isn't that just how year-end is?
It'll all sell through eventually anyway.
There's already a Switch version —
how's it supposed to sell through?
Grandmas buying a Switch 2 for their grandkids will pick it up at the same time.
Honestly, the crazy part is it's still charting in the Top 30 at this point.
That's just not happening…
It might not even be a full year — could be within this fiscal year.
And on top of that, the 2.4 million figure covers 50 days, so 10.5 months is the accurate number.
First week was about 22,000, so it looks like roughly 5,000 more sold over six weeks.
Wolverine did 20,000 in week one, 22,000 the week after,
then dropped out of the rankings the week after that.
If the gauge doesn't drop even a little, we can't even guess lol
Just calculate it as somewhere between 80 and 99% sold through.
If you can ship it, mass-shipping any game is the right call —
though PlayStation can't even manage that anymore lol
There was never really a need to make key cards or add-on DLC into 'paper slips' in the first place
that whole Dragon's Dogma thing was just way too much of a special case…
Dropped to 3,980 yen and clawed back to No. 28 lol
Classic Trashstation (5ch's derisive nickname for PlayStation) — can't shift units without a half-price sale lmaooooo
People keep saying Nintendo's current software is a rip-off, but when you look at PlayStation first-party titles that only chart once they're on fire sale, you start thinking these are the ones people actually see as overpriced.
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
Famitsu’s weekly sales ranking is an estimate based on in-store sell-through, which is a different thing from a publisher’s official shipment numbers. The licensing-contract figures floated in the thread, like “3.5 million units” or “2.4 million units over 50 days,” are also just user speculation, not backed by any official announcement. Likewise, the “gauge full at 2,103 units sold” reported for the Demon Slayer-related title isn’t an actual sales figure either — it’s just a rough in-store display indicator, and how it corresponds to actual shipment numbers is unclear. Where the thread split was over how to characterize a ranking recovery after a price cut: is it a “slow burn seller” or just “the result of a fire sale”? That’s a classic point of contention that often flares up between Nintendo and Sony fan camps. It’s worth keeping in mind that ranking shifts alone don’t measure how strongly a game is actually selling.
