The story
On November 6, Nintendo (7974) shares fell ¥580 (-6.53%) from the previous day’s close to ¥8,300. The same day, the Nikkei average also dropped below ¥60,000, with the entire domestic stock market taking a sharp hit at one point. Meanwhile, Sony’s stock rose during that same window, and the fact that different stocks reacted so differently under the same market conditions became a hot topic on 5ch’s “Hardware/Industry (Geha)” board. Posters were divided over whether the drop stemmed from Nintendo’s own earnings report or broader market sentiment, with the discussion expanding to cover how the U.S. election results and AI-regulation trends might be affecting stock prices.
What people said
Nintendo Co., Ltd. (7974)
8,300 -580 (-6.53%)
The Nikkei dropped below 60,000
Just the other day they were saying it hit an all-time high
And right on cue, the trains stopped too
But Sony went up though
Isn't Sony up though?

Re: #5
Isn't Sony up though?
a ton of people made a killing short-selling?
Everyone pretty much knew this crash was coming, right?
Dude's totally losing it lol
Only the console-war crowd (geha) has the luxury of casually arguing "Nintendo this, Sony that" right now
Seriously, actual traders are in full meltdown mode
I'm an actual trader and I'm making a killing shorting, so what?
If you're skimming profits off this mess, keep it to yourself
Seriously, randoms are gonna come crawling
it'd actually work in favor of both Nintendo and Sony
those insane memory and SSD prices would finally come back down
If that happened, Sony would benefit the most
They'd be able to price the PS6 reasonably
Switch 2 uses Samsung's 8nm process and doesn't even use an SSD
PS6 is basically a pile of cutting-edge tech, so it'd take the hit directly
For Nintendo
it's obviously because of that trash earnings report lol
I'm done for
It's common sense that financial stocks drop when the long-short interest rate spread narrows
Well, if you're holding spot (not on margin), you'll be fine though
Not that bad considering how rough the earnings were
AI (stocks) are dead
so by rights it should actually be going up
Feel kind of bad for whoever sold yesterday…
Looks like it clawed back a bit, offset by the Republicans' crushing defeat
Yesterday's US stocks were seriously rough though…
Background and Key Points of the Discussion
Nintendo (7974) shares fell ¥580 (-6.53%) from the previous close to ¥8,300 during trading on November 6, and the Nikkei average also dropped below ¥60,000 that same day. Opinions in the thread split over whether the drop was driven by Nintendo’s own earnings report or by broader market sentiment. In fact, Sony’s stock rose on that very same domestic market, and the fact that different stocks reacted so differently became a recurring topic of discussion. Posters also noted that the decline was partly offset by the U.S. election results (the Republican Party’s crushing defeat), and some argued that stronger AI regulation would ease the supply-demand squeeze on semiconductors, bringing down memory and SSD prices — which would actually benefit Nintendo’s and Sony’s hardware manufacturing costs. Readers who only skim the thread title might get the impression that “only Nintendo crashed,” but in reality the Nikkei average itself fell sharply that day, and Nintendo’s drop was just part of that broader move — a nuance that’s easy to miss.
