The story
Microsoft has officially announced the subtitle for The Elder Scrolls VI: “Sentinel.” Sentinel is the name of a city in the Hammerfell region that has been part of the series since its earliest days, but reactions on the thread were split — some said it “feels less substantial than Oblivion or Skyrim” or “sounds like the name of some Marvel boss,” while others pushed back that “any real fan of the series would know this lore.” Since the announcement came without any accompanying footage, interest in the release date and supported platforms stayed low, and the thread’s overall excitement was muted.
What people said
II Daggerfall
III Morrowind
IV Oblivion
V Skyrim
VI Sentinel
Guess Microsoft just can't pull it off, huh
Spring 2029: Diablo V
Spring 2030: Starcraft
Xbox's future looks bright
Did they actually announce release windows too?
It bugs me that it's just one city's name
Since it's Microsoft, it'll probably be Xbox and PC only at first, so no wonder nobody's hyped
That's such an arrogant yet oddly modest, foolish "gimme-gimme" attitude (entitled complaining)
If it weren't for me, that would've slipped right by
After TES6, there's the Obsidian-made Fallout spinoff and FO5 lined up
Plus other stuff too, of course
Bethesda's got a lot to look forward to for a while
I want remakes of the pre-Morrowind TES games too
Oblivion already proved this
If you can't use mods, it won't be popular
Taking 8 years after the announcement just to reveal the title
Reminder: actual development only started 3 years ago
Can't wait to see just how badly they screw it up lol
Your whole mindset is twisted from the ground up lol
Oblivion and Skyrim both have this mystical ring to them
But to gamers, "Sentinel" mostly conjures up images of some giant Marvel boss
Starfield's title was already pretty plain too, it just doesn't spark the imagination
Can't believe this got approved
The city of Sentinel in Hammerfell has been part of the lore since the very first TES games
Are you dumb?
Exactly this
It's obvious they're not even a fan of the series
People are saying it's a Marvel character, or worse, that it's a Wolverine ripoff
Why Sentinel instead of just Hammerfell?
Honestly, since Starfield already set the precedent, people will just say "PC or PS is fine"
Or does Microsoft have infinite money to burn?
Both Microsoft and Sony have already said they're moving away from multi-platforming first-party games since it doesn't pay off
It might come to PC, but I doubt it'll ever hit PlayStation now
If that's true, I can only feel sorry for the people around them, but you could argue it's still better that they at least admit BotW (Breath of the Wild) is a great game and burn with jealousy over it
Because there are people out there who can't even admit that much
WHOA!!
THAT'S INSANE!!
And what are YOU even gonna play on PS6, huh?
Another Spider-Man?
Sounds like it's about 5 years off
At least it'll be treated as public enemy #1 on the console-war board ("Geha," the Hardware/Industry forum)
Reason: it's not coming to PS5 or Switch 2
Ah, so on consoles it's an Xbox exclusive then
It'll definitely come eventually, so people will just wait it out
Deserts always feel like a lazy shortcut, I'm not into it
If Hammerfell is the setting, apparently desert only makes up about 20% of the whole region
Background and Key Debates
It has been eight years since The Elder Scrolls VI was first teased with nothing more than a brief trailer at E3 2018, and information about the game has remained extremely scarce ever since. Bethesda came under Microsoft’s umbrella in 2021, and this title is positioned as an in-house Xbox/PC release. The thread split over two main points. The first was the impression left by the subtitle “Sentinel”: some felt it sounds plain or underwhelming compared to past entries (Arena/Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim), while others countered that Sentinel has been an established proper noun — a city in Hammerfell — since the earliest days of the series. The second point concerned the development timeline: criticism that “eight years since the announcement is too slow” was met with the correction that “real development only started a few years ago.” Since this reveal was just a text/information announcement with no accompanying footage and no stated release date, the thread as a whole showed a fairly muted reaction.
