The story
Following Sega’s rollout of the “Mega Drive Mini” series, a thread titled “What would you put on a Sega Saturn Mini?” popped up on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board. Posters rattled off wishlist titles ranging from staples like Virtua Fighter 2 and Panzer Dragoon to lesser-known picks like Gungriffon and Digital Museum. Along the way, a debate broke out over where to draw the line — some argued “arcade ports don’t feel very ‘Saturn’” — while others praised the hardware itself, noting that “the tech Sega packed into the Saturn for just 49,800 yen back then feels like it came from the future.” The thread ended up being more than just a wishlist.
What people said
Back then, just getting a PC into a state where you could actually play games took serious money and know-how. The fact that a home console — where all you had to do was pop in a CD — could run eroge on par with the PC versions was genuinely impressive.
Also, Rise and Fall of the Millennium Empire.

Just a gut pick, really.
And if we're talking peak "Saturn-ness," I'd want Death Crimson and Nonomura too, but that's probably asking too much.
I guess the Mini format really does have rules like that, huh?
It's not so much a "rule" — it's just that arcade ports carry such a strong Taito/SNK image that they don't feel very "Saturn." Though Darius Gaiden is a masterpiece, for what it's worth.
Basically, it should be original titles that debuted on that hardware — ports from other architectures don't really count, I guess. Though the Mega Drive version of Darius was already an irregular case back then.
I think it was City Connection that managed to develop an arcade emulator for it — I wonder just how much hardware spec that actually demands.
I actually prefer Sega Rally.
Though when it comes to the Saturn, I kind of don't want to touch arcade ports much.
Back then Sega and Nintendo's first-party lineups were both strong, and Namco and Square Enix were on PlayStation, so a lot of hardcore gamers ended up buying all three systems.
SCE also had a solid stable of puzzle games, rhythm games, Tenchu, and more… it really was a well-rounded lineup. Personally, PaneKit was the one I found fun.
But once they pivoted toward cinematic, movie-like games and became SIE, I honestly think they turned into a pretty boring company.
Ah, Kaze no Regret, huh.
Gundam would probably be tough licensing-wise. If so, I'd want the original, masterpiece first Giren's Ambition too.
Wachenröder
Guardian Heroes
Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari
My memory of Wachenröder is that it was a pretty mediocre game. Black/Matrix, which came out around the same time, seemed to get talked about more.
There's a fan-made Windows version built by a diehard fan — search for "Hi-MACS Simulator" and you might find it. Not sure if it's still being distributed these days, though.
Yeah, because unlike other games, failing a QTE there doesn't feel like a mistake.
Background and key points of debate
Sega has rolled out the “Mega Drive Mini” series, but as of November 2026 there has been no official announcement of a Saturn version — everything in this thread is purely wishful speculation. The Saturn is known for having had a notoriously complex architecture that made development expensive, and the thread reflects that, with comments like “you couldn’t even sell it for 300,000 yen today.” Another sticking point was what should count for inclusion: opinions split over whether arcade ports from companies like Taito and SNK should be treated the same as titles originally created for the Saturn itself. This echoes earlier criticism of mini-console hardware being “nothing but arcade ports” and feeling thin as a result. The mention of eroge ports also reflects the Saturn’s unusual position at the time as a console that let people easily play what were otherwise PC-only games.
