Switch 2 Jailbroken for Just a Week, and Mario Kart World Already Runs on PC — 5ch: “It’s All Over Now”

From our other sites

The story

About a week after the jailbreak (system rewrite) for the Switch 2 went public, posters on 5ch’s “Hardware/Industry” (Geha) board reported that Mario Kart World is now running at normal speed on PC via the emulator “Eglantine.” The thread was divided on how much this PC port could actually hurt Nintendo’s business, with some pointing out the difference between running games on an emulator versus pirating via a cracked console, and others noting that pre-orders for the new Zelda title haven’t actually dropped.

Just over a week after the jailbreak, Mario Kart World is already running at full speed on PC via the Switch 2 emulator "Eglantine"

Re: #1
AI clones are gonna get regulated, so it's all over now 🥺
10AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:27
Re: #5
And the punchline is it took a massive amount of tokens just to make the clone
11AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:28
This just makes buying a PS5 even more pointless.
If you've got a PC you can do everything anyway.

Re: #11
Why does Switch 2 being emulatable suddenly make you anti-PS5?
39AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:49
If you look at Twitter, every tweet gushing happily about the Switch 2 jailbreak is from an "anonymous account."
In other words, they can't use their Nintendo-game know-how to actually do business in the open.
It's basically the same as a certain kind of yakuza.

Re: #40
All you have to do is follow the link from a tweet with tens of thousands of likes, that's it.
As easy as the old R4 flashcart.

Re: #41
No way — without skills like ROM-dumping, it's never gonna happen.
That hassle is exactly why even in the US, the new Ocarina of Time is crushing GTA on the charts.
GTA, meanwhile, looks ready to get pirated on day one just by owning the hardware.
54AnonymousOct 31, 2026 19:56
"You can do it on PC!" doesn't actually spread as much as you'd think.
It's way scarier when it gets cracked just by owning the hardware, like with the PS5.

Re: #54
It can be done on PS5 too, and unlike the Switch 1, both the hardware and the games are pricier this time, so it'll spread.

Apparently Anthropic is going to stop its AI from being used to hack games.

Re: #72
Chinese LLMs are better anyway, so we don't need it lol
73AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:03
Just owning a PS5 console might be enough to play GTA6 for free.
76AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:04
Re: #73
There's no way that's happening.
77AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:05
The Switch 2 is still cheaper than a PC anyway.
Why would you be so pathetic as to pay a ton of money AND commit a crime just to emulate it lol
79AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:05
Re: #77
Right now it's basically for people who'd rather die than give Nintendo money.
Emulators get made for every console generation anyway.
78AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:05
Before we even get to that, if the master key really did leak, this is headed somewhere way worse than piracy.
If region-locking gets stripped out, existing Japanese-version copies become easy money overseas.
82AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:06
Re: #78
Maybe it's time to stop blindly believing the "master key leaked" story?
They're just rewriting the system — the master key is completely unaffected.
Even the Switch 1's master key was never leaked.
86AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:07
PS and PC can already run heavy-duty games, and on top of that you can now play Switch 2 games for free.
If a console can only play Switch 2 games AND you still have to pay for it, nobody's buying it.

Re: #86
Could you please stop just broadcasting your wishful thinking?
93AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:10
The fact that Zelda pre-orders haven't slowed down at all in reality (not even GTA can catch up) shows this has zero real impact.
Not that many people are willing to go through all that hassle to set up a PC emulator.
97AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:12
Re: #93
Oh really, you know the worldwide digital pre-order numbers for GTA6 too?
Impressive, how'd you manage that?
95AnonymousOct 31, 2026 20:11
Now that AI has come this far, it's still fine as long as it's limited to emulation.
It's game over once they get it running natively, like PS5 games.

"Oh it's fine as long as it's just emulation" lol

Background and Key Points of This Debate

When it comes to hacking the Switch 2, the “jailbreak” (rewriting the console’s system software) that lets games run is a separate matter from a leak of the “master key,” the hardware’s internal encryption key — and posters in the thread pointed out that so far only the system has been rewritten, with no actual master-key leak involved. If the master key did leak, the fallout would extend much further, up to full-console piracy and things like stripping out regional restrictions, so conflating the two makes the situation look more serious than it really is. Whether Nintendo’s software sales are being hurt by the jailbreak was also debated, but posters noted that pre-orders for the new Zelda title haven’t lost any momentum, treating the PC proof-of-concept as a separate issue from its actual impact on sales. It’s also worth noting that using the emulator still requires clearing technical hurdles like extracting the game data, which matters when weighing just how fast this could realistically spread.
