Console-War (“Geha”) Posters Refuse to Accept Chinese Games — 5ch: “Back in the Xbox 360 Era, They Wouldn’t Accept Western Games Either”

The story

A thread titled “Why won’t Geha (console-war) posters accept Chinese games?” went up on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board. Posters gave all kinds of reasons: déjà-vu fatigue with character-driven titles like “Genshin Impact,” quality gripes about censorship making scenarios feel stiff, and distrust stemming from the Anker battery-fire scandal and Chinese-made devices generally. On the other hand, plenty of pushback cited the sky-high Steam review scores for “Dyson Sphere Program” and “Black Myth: Wukong”‘s GOTY win as proof that “some Chinese games really are good.” The thread ultimately circled back to a comparison with the past: “Back in the Xbox 360 era, people wouldn’t even accept Western games either.”

I get that you don't like it, but…

That's not "Geha posters" — that's just garbage fanboys
5AnonymousOct 30, 2026 21:17
I'm not into Chinese games because
they shove sexuality in your face
too hard

But I'm fine with Chinese devices and use plenty of them
Audio gear and controllers are good examples

The characters, story, and systems all feel like massive déjà vu
Right now the only thing going for it is being eye candy (flashy graphics)
25AnonymousOct 30, 2026 21:28
Because of CCP censorship they don't have the freedom to write stories however they want

Though actually, the word "freedom" (jiyu) in Japanese was itself coined by Fukuzawa Yukichi as a translation for "Liberty"/"Freedom"

Re: #25
Not just games — you really feel it in anything story-driven
That's why experiencing it feels stiff and awkward too
28AnonymousOct 30, 2026 21:31
The characters are fine, but there isn't a single Chinese game that's actually fun

Re: #28
There are plenty of fun Chinese-made games
You just don't know about them

I wonder if people insist on Japanese-made chargers too
Anker stuff is actually great quality
For things Anker doesn't make or where it's overpriced, like DisplayPort cables, I bought UGREEN instead
It's safer than Japanese brands and way more recognized worldwide anyway

Re: #38
Isn't Anker the one whose stuff caught fire?
Yeah, no wonder people won't touch it
41AnonymousOct 30, 2026 21:46
Just flooding the screen with flashy effects
with cutscenes of pretty girls jiggling their chests going "ohh, ahh"

I guess that kind of presentation is made for people who get a dopamine hit from it, but…

Re: #41
How do you even function in life
You can't possibly complain about every single thing that catches your eye — how do you survive like that?

Re: #41
Probably the same crowd that got excited over the boob physics in Super Robot Wars
46AnonymousOct 30, 2026 21:50
Like, say you watch YouTube
Pretty much every popular streamer out there is playing Chinese games or raving about Chinese products
Do you lose your mind every single time you see that?
48AnonymousOct 30, 2026 21:51
Re: #46
I don't even watch that stuff in the first place lol
50AnonymousOct 30, 2026 21:52
Say you play online games
Talk about controllers or Chinese games comes up
Do you freak out every time and go "That's a Chinese maker's controller! That's a Chinese maker's keyboard! That's one of those hated Chinese games!"?

It's a country whose government runs cyberattacks all over the world — is there really some reason you absolutely have to defend it?

Well, these are the people who lose their minds over stuff like "VIVANT" (a Japanese TV drama), so I guess it can't be helped
87AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:20
Re: #62
Getting mad about it while watching it illegally in the first place makes no sense at all
63AnonymousOct 30, 2026 21:57
The Switch 2 is full of Chinese-made parts
Better hurry up and smash it on the concrete and toss it out
65AnonymousOct 30, 2026 21:58
Re: #63
It says "Geha posters" right there — can't you read?
67AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:00
There are those cheap anime-style Chinese indie games
They're all stuck in that same rut forever
Honestly, something like "Rich Man" (a simple Japanese board-game app) is still more fun than that
68AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:01
Re: #67
Yeah, the ones piled up all over the Switch eShop
69AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:02
"Kowloon's Gate" is a Japanese game too, you know
They probably don't even understand what's actually considered good
"Sifu" is good though

Re: #69
In the original "Sakura Wars," the Chinese character was probably the least popular of all the girls
76AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:10
Honestly, it's way better than politically-correct Western games
82AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:16
Re: #76
PC-brained crap game, déjà-vu "pretty girl (lol)" crap game
They're both just crap either way
83AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:16
America's clearly still on top, but it's reached the point where whether Japanese or Chinese games are better just comes down to personal taste — in terms of momentum, Japan's completely lost
86AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:18
Re: #83
You mean the one where 90% of the users of that whole hyped-up GOTY winner "Black Myth: Wukong" turned out to be from mainland China?
91AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:25
Are communist games even fun?

Alexey Pajitnov — the creator of Tetris — moved to America, though

Back in the Xbox 360 era, people wouldn't even accept Western games
100AnonymousOct 30, 2026 22:49
Re: #96
I could get into that, but it's a bit much for Geha-level brainpower, and honestly a pain to explain
If you can't lay it out properly, maybe better not to write it at all
Short version: the West and China aren't the same situation
There's always been an inferiority complex toward the West

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The divide over Chinese-made games traces back to the 2020s, when blockbuster titles like “Genshin Impact” and “Black Myth: Wukong” became global hits, pulling Chinese games into the long-running Japanese-vs-Western rivalry that defines the Geha board. The Geha board has traditionally been a battleground over the relative merits of Japanese and Western games, and as the thread itself points out, there was a period when it took the same “won’t accept” stance toward Western games. On the quality front, claims that these games feel “strongly derivative” clash with counterclaims that it’s “simply a gap in name recognition and market reach” — neither side’s claim rests on rigorous data. The figure claiming that most “Black Myth: Wukong” players are based in mainland China also comes with no cited source, so taking it at face value would be premature.
