New Chinese Gacha-less Game ‘Infinity Ananta’ Has Fans Stunned — 5ch: ‘There’s Nothing Left to Spend Money On’

From our other sites

The story

A thread went up on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyou G” (general live-chat board) after a string of new social games out of China dropped one after another. The main topic was the new open-world title “Infinity Ananta,” and reactions split once its monetization scheme came up — no gacha for characters or weapons, with spending limited to skins and traversal options. Alongside a wave of skepticism about whether that business model can actually work, frustration also boiled over about the monetization in popular domestic social games like Dragon Quest Walk, and names like Wuthering Waves, HoYoverse titles, and Gakuen Idolmaster came up as the thread turned into a broader Chinese-games-vs-Japanese-social-games comparison.

WOOOOOAAAAAHHHH

Is this finally the end for HoYoverse?
14AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:04
Re: #3
Still can't shake that cheap-HoYoverse-knockoff feel.
13AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:03
Grindy "factory" stages and board-game minigames have dragged new releases down before, and I guarantee the Silver Castle mystery segment is going to do the same.

Re: #13
Chinese devs have this bad habit of forcing you into everything except the main content.
20AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:08
Japan's got Tecronos.
29AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:12
Re: #20
That game's not even breathing anymore.
21AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:08
Open-world gacha games have such tedious daily chores.
23AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:09
Re: #21
Even if you only want to play when you feel like it, there's always some leash holding you back.
35AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:17
NTE pulled in 64 billion yen in sales in just six months.
Saying Chinese games are 'done for' is laughable (lol)
40AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:20
Re: #35
Speaking as someone who's actually played it, it's on a pretty steep decline, no?
The Kurobane storyline makes zero sense,
and the Pukaland minigames are boring.
37AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:19
Wuthering Waves pulled the 'mandatory Chinese-grind' move (forced daily busywork typical of Chinese gacha games) and lost half its active players — basically killed itself.
42AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:20
Re: #37
Thinking about it that way, Genshin actually handled its own mandatory grind pretty well.
47AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:23
Just saying 'it's Tencent under the hood'
tells you basically everything you need to know about a Chinese app.
52AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:25
Re: #47
They've got zero interest in nurturing any IP besides HoYoverse's.
50AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:25
Even Tencent's own Pokémon Unite basically died, though.
Even with a popular IP, casual players bail the second something feels like a hassle.
54AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:26
Re: #50
Sounds like Unite ran into rights disputes with Nintendo.
58AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:28
Chinese gacha games just have garbage stories…
60AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:29
Re: #58
Is there even a mobile game with a genuinely good story to begin with?
65AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:31
Re: #60
I feel like I've seen people praise Nikke's writing.

Re: #60
Ayakashi: Ramble!
It's as good as a classic old-school eroge.
72AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:35
Infinity Ananta is seriously going to take over.
It'll probably be bigger in Japan than GTA6.

74AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:36
Re: #72
Are you even talking to the right crowd here?
75AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:37
Re: #72
Where on earth did you run a survey to get that result?
87AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:45
If it wants to beat GTA, it needs to let you do lewd stuff.
90AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:49
Infinity Ananta has no character or weapon gacha.
Monetization is skins only, and for traversal you get free flying cars and robots like something out of Spider-Man or Just Cause — genuinely impressive.
There's literally nothing left to pay for.
91AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:50
Re: #90
Fun traversal is only fun for the first little while.
97AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:52
Re: #90
A game like that is bound to collapse and die.
Where's it even going to make the tens of billions of yen a year it needs?
98AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:52
Re: #90
That sounds nice in theory, but if you can't squeeze money out of whales, you've got no choice but to nickel-and-dime everyone else instead.
101AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:53
Free is amazing.
Why doesn't Japan copy this?
102AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:55
Re: #101
Copying that now would just get you burned in this market.
In the end, never raising the bar, like FGO does, is the real winning business strategy.
105AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:55
Re: #101
Because Japan wants to keep cutting corners, so it started going after its own users instead 🥺
107AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:56
Japan's probably going to be playing soccer games, baseball games, Puzzle & Dragons, and Monster Strike forever.
At least they're popular enough with the general public that you're not embarrassed to admit you play them.
109AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:58
Re: #107
Those are all just stuff middle-aged guys keep playing out of pure inertia.
110AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:58
Gacha games are gacha games, in the end.
They're all just burning your time on boring minigames and gear-upgrade gacha.
114AnonymousOct 31, 2026 15:01
Re: #110
You're probably still thinking in terms of domestic gacha games, but the Chinese ones are basically like regular offline RPGs.
111AnonymousOct 31, 2026 14:58
If you want to support Japanese social games, play Gakuen Idolmaster.
It's the only domestic one that can actually compete on the world stage.
115AnonymousOct 31, 2026 15:02
Re: #111
I don't think I'll ever actually play it, but the music videos are incredible.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Chinese-made social games have been racking up global sales largely on the strength of HoYoverse titles like Genshin Impact, pouring hefty budgets into one major release after another. The game at the center of this thread, “Infinity Ananta,” does away with gacha for characters and weapons entirely, monetizing only through cosmetic elements like skins and traversal — a design choice that drew plenty of skepticism over whether such a model could really recoup the cost of developing a blockbuster title. At the same time, frustration with Japan’s domestic gacha-based social games runs deep, with posters pointing to long-running titles like Dragon Quest Walk, where gear inflation has reached the point that clearing content effectively requires a “gear check” — you simply can’t proceed without specific equipment. Opinions on individual titles were split throughout the thread, and the discussion never settled into a simple “Chinese games win” versus “Japanese social games are finished” binary.
