The story
On 5ch’s Hardware & Industry board (Gaha), reports that a PS5 emulator has already reached stable 60fps performance became a hot topic. According to the thread, the project was reportedly started by an overseas developer angered by Sony’s announcement that it would withdraw from the PS5 disc business. Discussion centered on the observation that nobody had bothered to build a PS5 emulator until now because the console has so few exclusive titles, and surprise at how quickly its performance improved anyway. Commenters named several titles such as the Demon’s Souls Remake and Astro Bot, with some arguing that anyone who just wants the exclusives could get by on Steam instead, alongside talk of how the development difficulty compares to PS4 emulators.
What people said
What a waste of an emulator.
Couldn't you say the same about PS4 exclusives?
Might be nice to have somewhere to keep playing these even after Sony pulls out, though.

Some angry foreign dev started building one out of spite after Sony's disc-business withdrawal

It hit 60fps with barely any effort
That's basically the whole story.
Nothing but garbage games — the ultimate anti-piracy security, as always.
Isn't it because the PS5 got hacked recently?
Has there ever been a sadder console than this?
Is that not true anymore these days?
Back in the day consoles were heavily customized, purpose-built hardware, but nowadays they're basically off-the-shelf PC parts with minor tweaks, so the situation's different.
This isn't really an "emulator" so much as middleware — or more accurately, a compatibility layer. PS5 and PC hardware are built almost the same way, so unlike something like the Famicom, there's no need to simulate the hardware at all.
Don't need it. Honestly, are FromSoftware fanboys the type to be into this kind of piracy stuff too? There are comparison videos out there that reek of emulator footage — I'd like those banned the moment they're spotted.
Didn't most of the first-party stuff end up on Steam eventually anyway?
Just focus on the four or so exclusives — one of them is already hitting 60fps lol
Though I guess nobody's actually going to bother.
Apparently the Demon's Souls Remake runs stable too.
So that leaves Saros, Returnal, and Wolverine?
It's mostly just PS4-to-PS5 ports, so there really aren't many. With an emulator you could probably upscale the PS4 versions and make them run smoother anyway.
Isn't it Ghost of Yōtei? Returnal should already be out on PC.
Foamstars, maybe? (the "bubble Splatoon" game)
Seriously, I can't think of a single game I'd want to play on it.
Come on, it's not 10x.
No games worth playing, so nobody bothered making an emulator for ages.
I was browsing it since the store's shutting down, and yeah, the lineup is genuinely weak, it's kind of funny. Still way better than the PS5's though.
And if you take out the ones also on PC, it's cut in half again, huh.
Built as a spite project, it might actually run lighter than the Steam version lol
Forget SR, they'll probably be able to override it with NR, making it strictly better. SR wouldn't even be in the same league.
Though it got cracked in a recent update, actually.
Just Wolverine, Astro Bot, Saros, the Demon's Souls Remake, and Ghost of Yōtei or so?
There's also Finger Fitness and Neptunia GoGo.
Background and Key Points of This Topic
Current-generation consoles like the PS5 and PS4 use an internal architecture nearly identical to a PC’s, based on x86, so unlike older consoles such as the Famicom, there’s no need to simulate the hardware from scratch. That’s why some in the thread pointed out that, strictly speaking, this software should be called a “compatibility layer” rather than an “emulator.” Opinions were also split on the motivation behind the project, with some claiming it was a reaction to Sony’s withdrawal from the disc business, and others arguing it simply came down to there being so few PS5-exclusive titles worth playing in the first place. There was also talk of whether the emulator could reproduce PSSR (the AI upscaling feature built into the PS5 Pro), but readers should note this remained speculation and wishful thinking within the thread rather than confirmed information.
