Kojima Productions Issues Official Statement as 5ch Debates PHYSINT Publishing Deal Change

The story

Kojima Productions has issued an official statement in response to spreading online speculation about a change in publishing partner for its new title, PHYSINT. Even before the statement, observers had already noted conflicting accounts from both sides over whether the contract change was truly “sudden” and which party was responsible for how the news got out. On 5ch, opinions split over whether Sony or Kojima Productions was more at fault for how the deal fell apart, and attention also focused on the fact that it remains undecided whether the new game will ultimately launch on PlayStation, Xbox, or both.

Not coming to PlayStation

Re: #13
Ugh, Xbox fanboy
It's not even confirmed yet, quit jumping to conclusions
23AnonymousSep 20, 2026 20:45
This all blew up because of Kojipro's feelings post on X
They went around saying Sony unilaterally cut the contract, and now this? Give me a break.

Re: #23
Exactly
And they're the ones who were sending out the 'funnels' (sicced their fanbase on people, Gundam reference) to begin with
25AnonymousSep 20, 2026 20:46
It's because they tacked on unnecessary words like 'suddenly.'
And not even a word of thanks.
They reaped what they sowed.

Re: #25
There's no reason to be thankful when you get suddenly cut off
'Sony reaped what they sowed' works just as well as an explanation
40AnonymousSep 20, 2026 20:48
> Kojima acknowledged that whether Physint will ultimately release on PlayStation is unknown, and that the decision is up to Xbox (Microsoft).

Is there even any point for MS to allow a multiplatform release?

Re: #40
An 'asha' (exclusivity supremacist)
'Why would you even think it's coming to that crappy PlayStation?'
65AnonymousSep 20, 2026 20:51
Re: #40
Well, at least it's a relief that Kojima doesn't actually have the final say here
Still, it'll probably end up exclusive
68AnonymousSep 20, 2026 20:52
The fact that they're still building the concept is the most shocking part lol
I figured the story was already finished

Re: #68
Even OVERDOSE is still being reshot because an actor died, don't ask for miracles here…
110AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:03
Who's going to be in 'Psyjint'? (garbled joke on 'Physint')
Rick? Michonne? Tyreese?
119AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:04
Re: #110
Madonsoku (nonsense name) and Minami Hamabe
120AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:04
Re: #110
It's 'Physint,' not that
125AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:05
Re: #110
It's 'financier' (the little cake), not 'Physint'
135AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:08
There's no calming down the crazies overseas without an official statement saying it's coming to PS too lol
137AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:08
Re: #135
That's up to Microsoft though
143AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:09
Re: #135
They'd need to post a photo of 'Asha' shaking hands with Totoki (Sony's Hiroki Totoki) or something
173AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:14
Even if he desperately papers over it with 'we're still on good terms with PlayStation,' PHYSINT is probably going to mark the end of Kojima's career either way.
And it won't come to PS unless Microsoft, who's footing the development bill, repeats the old-era blunder of releasing it multiplatform on PS.

Re: #173
So true
By the time Physint comes out, MS will need to be busy selling Helix (their new console), so there's no real reason for them to bother putting it on PS
197AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:19
Re: #173
Shut up, just release it already…
196AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:18
Kojima's move here is indefensible, but SIE is SIE too — if they're going to spend a fortune making a generic game like Wolverine, wouldn't it have made more sense to keep publishing Kojima's stuff instead? Even at a loss, it has its own distinct identity and brand, which actually gives people a reason to buy the hardware. They should've just held onto him.
I could even live with it if it stayed multiplat up through PC.
202AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:19
Re: #196
I used to think that too
But the conclusion is probably just 'releasing two titles would only pile up more losses'
212AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:21
Re: #196
Kojima put Death Stranding 1 on Xbox too, after all
So from SIE's perspective there's probably no upside left in it
214AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:21
Re: #196
Death Stranding cost a ton of money too though
210AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:20
Who's the one spreading this awful rumor that Sony suddenly cut them off?
211AnonymousSep 20, 2026 21:21
Re: #210
Kojima is basically a god, don'tcha know

Re: #210
Can you not read?
The great 'Kojima of the world' himself said it!!

Background and Key Points of the Debate

PHYSINT is a new title from Kojima Productions, led by Hideo Kojima, and news that its original publishing arrangement was changing set off a wave of online speculation — theories ranging from “Sony unilaterally cut the contract” to “Kojima Productions was the one who stirred up conflict first with its post on X.” This official statement appears aimed at calming things down, but the statement itself is only touched on in fragments within the article, and 5ch’s reaction has largely turned into a contest of reading between the lines. Threads repeatedly circled around business performance (“profit,” “loss”) and which platform the game will ultimately land on (“Xbox exclusive,” “PlayStation return”), but none of this has been officially confirmed — it remains speculation on an anonymous message board. Readers should be careful to separate the emotional back-and-forth of defenders and critics from the facts actually stated in the official statement.
