The story

Koei Tecmo Games has confirmed that its Three Kingdoms dark-fantasy action title Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will launch on March 4, 2027, alongside the start of a limited-time alpha demo. A thread went up on 5ch’s console/hardware board (“Gaha”) almost immediately after the announcement, with discussion ranging widely even before launch — from how the original Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was received, to debates over the multiplayer elements, whether Xbox Game Pass support would return, past bugs in the Steam version, and disagreement over the base-building system and boss difficulty tuning (nerfs).

A game that can't top the PlayStation-exclusive Nioh

Re: #2
Classic case of "avoid overlapping with Nioh and it turns into a masterpiece" pattern.
They get it.
4AnonymousSep 16, 2026 10:21
I think the first game wasn't that fun, and that's why Nioh 3 ended up not selling well.

Re: #4
Wo Long is seriously fun though.
5AnonymousSep 16, 2026 10:22
Is this one on Game Pass too? I played the last one through Pass.

Re: #5
Yeah, this one's on Game Pass too.
6AnonymousSep 16, 2026 10:22
You really do love China stuff, huh, Sony boy ("障ちゃん," 5ch slang mocking PlayStation fanboys).

Re: #6
China's mythology has way more yokai/demon-type enemies to draw from, so they're more interesting as foes.
But the character factions are all Chinese history, so that part you just have to put up with.

This is coming to Switch 2 too, you know.
What's with the "sad news for Nintendo fans" framing?

Re: #8
"Shimizu Hitoshi" sad news (apparently a pun on the poster's handle — reference unclear).
9AnonymousSep 16, 2026 10:23
The official account has no heart lol

Re: #9
Switch 2 versions are becoming just normal at this point, huh.
27AnonymousSep 16, 2026 10:48
Honestly the first one was just plain fun though.

Re: #27
The multiplayer is the one thing they didn't need.
Because of it, even the single-player weapon balance kept getting messed with year-round — that was unbearable.

The game where PC gamers were losing their minds screaming about optimization and crashes.
35AnonymousSep 16, 2026 10:56
Re: #31
That wasn't the case on Game Pass, so
maybe it was another Steam-integration bug again?
33AnonymousSep 16, 2026 10:55
Is Koei Tecmo just bad at PC? Their releases always blow up into a mess.
39AnonymousSep 16, 2026 11:00
Re: #33
It's not PC itself, it's the Steam integration that has a lot of bugs.
Even with Wild Hearts, it was specifically the Steam launch that caused problems.

Re: #1
Classic switching hub, lol 😁 (a running 5ch in-joke mixing up a network "switching hub" with the Nintendo Switch)

Re: #49
What on earth are you even seeing…
54AnonymousSep 16, 2026 12:29
The A-team's off making the Nioh DLC, so this is realistically the B-team — the young Wo Long crew, right?
A crappy Game Pass day-one release is basically just new hires getting experience, like an experimental side project.
Just play the PS5-exclusive Nioh for now, and pick this up once it's pocket change during the Xbox/Switch crowd's ("チカニシ," 5ch slang for Xbox and Nintendo fans) paid beta test lol
55AnonymousSep 16, 2026 12:32
Re: #54
Is that opinion based on actually having played Nioh 3's first DLC wave?
57AnonymousSep 16, 2026 12:37
Huh? Why are you singling me out?
I'm a high-end console gamer and I'm neutral here.
59AnonymousSep 16, 2026 12:40
Re: #57
No, I just meant — did you actually play it and come away satisfied with the A-team's DLC?
60AnonymousSep 16, 2026 12:43
Re: #59
I'm waiting for it to drop to under half price or pocket change, so obviously I haven't played the DLC yet.
61AnonymousSep 16, 2026 12:44
Re: #60
Fair enough — but next time, even if you haven't played it, you should at least look up reviews before posting.
64AnonymousSep 16, 2026 12:56
If only it didn't have that tedious chore of capturing bases to lower enemy morale.
65AnonymousSep 16, 2026 13:15
Re: #64
People say that a lot, but what's actually wrong with it?
66AnonymousSep 16, 2026 13:18
Re: #65
If you rush straight to the boss the difficulty spikes, and dying weakens your own character, so the grind gets tedious.
67AnonymousSep 16, 2026 13:26
Re: #66
Ugh…
That's the reason? How dumb.
78AnonymousSep 16, 2026 13:50
This game was a masterpiece right up until the devs went nerf-happy, so getting a fast start matters a ton with this one.
102AnonymousSep 16, 2026 14:30
Re: #78
I didn't mind the nerfs in general, but nerfing the jiggle physics into stiff-as-a-board? Unforgivable.
83AnonymousSep 16, 2026 13:54
But before the nerf, weren't there a lot of people who couldn't beat Zhang Liang?
I feel like that was a pretty big talking point.
84AnonymousSep 16, 2026 13:55
Re: #83
That's just out of line — that was back in the demo days anyway.
87AnonymousSep 16, 2026 13:58
Re: #83
Out of only two bosses in the entire game that have a second phase, why on earth would you put one of them right at the very start, lol
94AnonymousSep 16, 2026 14:07
The combat was fun, but the weapon customization and collection elements felt way too thin.
96AnonymousSep 16, 2026 14:11
Re: #94
Huh? Go smash 1,000 terracotta warriors first before you say that.
The fun in this game is entirely the loot-grinding (hack-and-slash/ARPG loot loop).

Background and Key Talking Points

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was developed by Team Ninja, a studio under Koei Tecmo, and released in 2023 as a dark Three Kingdoms action RPG — a sister title in the same lineage as the Nioh series. It’s known for parry-focused combat and a world overrun by demonic yokai, and the fact that it was a day-one Xbox Game Pass release from launch is once again a talking point for this sequel. Opinions in the thread split mainly over two things: how the original game itself is remembered (with “it can’t top Nioh” and “it was genuinely fun” voices coexisting), and the base-capture-to-lower-morale progression system along with the repeated post-launch balance changes (nerfs). In particular, the early difficulty of the boss Zhang Liang keeps coming up across multiple posts as something people remember from the demo days. The original game also had login-related bugs reported on Steam in the past, so PC-version stability is once again one of the focal points this time around.
