The story
Koei Tecmo Games has confirmed that its Three Kingdoms dark-fantasy action title Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will launch on March 4, 2027, alongside the start of a limited-time alpha demo. A thread went up on 5ch’s console/hardware board (“Gaha”) almost immediately after the announcement, with discussion ranging widely even before launch — from how the original Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was received, to debates over the multiplayer elements, whether Xbox Game Pass support would return, past bugs in the Steam version, and disagreement over the base-building system and boss difficulty tuning (nerfs).
What people said
The dark Three Kingdoms action RPG returns — take on the demons overrunning a China torn apart by war with acrobatic combat. New trailer, gameplay details, and demo info inside!

Classic case of "avoid overlapping with Nioh and it turns into a masterpiece" pattern.
They get it.
Wo Long is seriously fun though.
Yeah, this one's on Game Pass too.
China's mythology has way more yokai/demon-type enemies to draw from, so they're more interesting as foes.
But the character factions are all Chinese history, so that part you just have to put up with.
What's with the "sad news for Nintendo fans" framing?
"Shimizu Hitoshi" sad news (apparently a pun on the poster's handle — reference unclear).
Switch 2 versions are becoming just normal at this point, huh.
The multiplayer is the one thing they didn't need.
Because of it, even the single-player weapon balance kept getting messed with year-round — that was unbearable.
That wasn't the case on Game Pass, so
maybe it was another Steam-integration bug again?
It's not PC itself, it's the Steam integration that has a lot of bugs.
Even with Wild Hearts, it was specifically the Steam launch that caused problems.
Classic switching hub, lol 😁 (a running 5ch in-joke mixing up a network "switching hub" with the Nintendo Switch)
What on earth are you even seeing…
A crappy Game Pass day-one release is basically just new hires getting experience, like an experimental side project.
Just play the PS5-exclusive Nioh for now, and pick this up once it's pocket change during the Xbox/Switch crowd's ("チカニシ," 5ch slang for Xbox and Nintendo fans) paid beta test lol
Is that opinion based on actually having played Nioh 3's first DLC wave?
I'm a high-end console gamer and I'm neutral here.
No, I just meant — did you actually play it and come away satisfied with the A-team's DLC?
I'm waiting for it to drop to under half price or pocket change, so obviously I haven't played the DLC yet.
Fair enough — but next time, even if you haven't played it, you should at least look up reviews before posting.
People say that a lot, but what's actually wrong with it?
If you rush straight to the boss the difficulty spikes, and dying weakens your own character, so the grind gets tedious.
Ugh…
That's the reason? How dumb.
I didn't mind the nerfs in general, but nerfing the jiggle physics into stiff-as-a-board? Unforgivable.
I feel like that was a pretty big talking point.
That's just out of line — that was back in the demo days anyway.
Out of only two bosses in the entire game that have a second phase, why on earth would you put one of them right at the very start, lol
Huh? Go smash 1,000 terracotta warriors first before you say that.
The fun in this game is entirely the loot-grinding (hack-and-slash/ARPG loot loop).
Background and Key Talking Points
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was developed by Team Ninja, a studio under Koei Tecmo, and released in 2023 as a dark Three Kingdoms action RPG — a sister title in the same lineage as the Nioh series. It’s known for parry-focused combat and a world overrun by demonic yokai, and the fact that it was a day-one Xbox Game Pass release from launch is once again a talking point for this sequel. Opinions in the thread split mainly over two things: how the original game itself is remembered (with “it can’t top Nioh” and “it was genuinely fun” voices coexisting), and the base-capture-to-lower-morale progression system along with the repeated post-launch balance changes (nerfs). In particular, the early difficulty of the boss Zhang Liang keeps coming up across multiple posts as something people remember from the demo days. The original game also had login-related bugs reported on Steam in the past, so PC-version stability is once again one of the focal points this time around.
