The story

The Hyogo Prefectural Police announced that it disciplined two officers, a man and a woman, with pay cuts for dereliction of duty after they engaged in sexual acts inside the police station and in a patrol car while on duty. According to ABC News, the male senior patrolman is married, and the matter came to light after his wife discovered his relationship with the female officer, prompting him to report it to his superiors himself. Both are said to have admitted the facts and expressed remorse. On 5ch’s “Breaking News Plus” board, reactions ranged from sarcasm about Hyogo police’s repeated scandals, to debate over whether the punishment fit the offense, to jokes tying the incident to Japan’s declining birthrate.

What crime is that even? Let people date freely.

Re: #4
Isn't it "dereliction of duty" or something like that?
12AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:48
Well, it's Hyogo police, so…
Well, it's Kanagawa police, so…
13AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:49
This kind of cop story comes up pretty regularly.

This always seems to be Hyogo.
What's going on over there?
23AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:52

Getting caught by your boss beats having to face your wife any day.

Re: #32
Maybe his wife's an ex-cop too and just outranks him in martial arts.

Re: #1

> The two have reportedly admitted to the facts and expressed remorse.
That got me for some reason, lol.
35AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:53
He self-reported and spilled the details of what they actually did?
Was everyone around them just pretending not to notice?
36AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:53
Cops, the Self-Defense Forces, any rank-based hierarchy — stuff like this happens a lot in those.
38AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:54
It was during work hours, right?
They should just fire them.
Why do we keep paying taxes to civil servants who aren't doing their jobs?
44AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:56
Re: #38
People should protest hard and directly, like they're verbally tearing them apart.
Every citizen has that right — these two are way too full of themselves.
39AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:54
Someone probably filmed it on their phone and reported it?
In that case, was it a whistleblower or a hidden-camera situation?
125AnonymousSep 11, 2026 17:20
Re: #39
I bet the people around them already knew.
You can just tell from the vibe, right?
50AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:57
In an age of declining birthrates, civil servants should be the ones setting an example.
Cut them some slack.
61AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:59
Re: #50
Go make babies with your own wife instead.
54AnonymousSep 11, 2026 16:57
They're both single people in their 20s, right?
Then just look the other way a little, don't be so uptight about it.

Re: #54
Actually read post 1.
The guy is married.
74AnonymousSep 11, 2026 17:03
Must be nice being a cop, so much free time.

Re: #74
Yeah, it's cushy, anyone can become one these days, and the pay's good too.
But even giving them every benefit of the doubt, getting paid to have sex on the job is unforgivable 👹

If two cops marry each other their combined household income tops ¥10 million a year.
Total winners.
81AnonymousSep 11, 2026 17:05
Re: #75
These days a household income of ¥10 million
is only worth what ¥5 million used to be back in the day (lol)
200AnonymousSep 11, 2026 18:08
Good for the birthrate, I guess, but do it at a hotel on your day off.

Re: #200
Fixing the birthrate means couples having two or more kids each — knocking up some unmarried woman once isn't going to turn that around.

Background and key points of this story

Disciplinary action against police officers is a matter of internal conduct rules, separate from criminal punishment — and in this case too, the grounds for discipline weren’t the sexual acts themselves but the fact that the officers neglected their duties while on shift (a violation of their obligation to devote themselves to their work). Because one of the two was married, the case drew attention as an “affair,” but as far as reported, the affair itself wasn’t the reason for the punishment. On the thread, the sense that Hyogo police scandals keep making headlines drew a pile of sarcasm, while opinions split between a more forgiving “if they were both single it’d be one thing” camp and an “it’s out of the question since they were on duty” camp. The fact that the case came to light not through an internal report but because a spouse noticed also left posters wondering how many similar cases never make it into the open.
