The story
Hiroyuki Miyasako, formerly of the comedy duo Ameagari Kesshitai, revealed on October 27 during a YouTube talk project with Atsuhiko Nakata that “I watch ‘Suiyōbi no Downtown’ religiously,” letting slip some longing for a TV appearance as he added, “I wonder what it’d be like if I were on it.” Since leaving Yoshimoto Kogyo, Miyasako has made YouTube streaming his main platform, but the comment was still picked up by 5ch’s Geisoku Sokuho+ board. Some posters argued he’d “have a better shot at appearing than Matsumoto Hitoshi,” while harsher takes calling him “a has-been” or “a boring panelist” were just as prominent — and the discussion spread well beyond Miyasako himself, into what it means to be a comedian in the YouTube era and how the entertainment industry has changed since Matsumoto disappeared from television.

What people said
Sure, he's more talented than Matsumoto, but is he still that hung up on staying in showbiz?
More like YouTube than 'the internet' in general.
These days comedians have no excuse — with YouTube around, they can put out content and earn money on their own, as much as they want.
He already has.
Fujimon's pulling it off well, but I'd kind of like to see if Miyasako could do the same — I bet he'd screw it up.
what the last few years have taught us is at least this much:
neither this guy nor Matsumoto need to be on TV.
Honestly, nobody's "necessary" for TV in the first place lol
He's got nothing but time on his hands, so I'd want them to spend at least a year setting the prank up.
the 'Wasshoi!' guy?
Lol that's dumb — but then again, if you're not into comedy, I guess that could actually happen.
Well, I guess that's a kind of happiness in its own way.
Got it.
Then go make a movie.
Shinagawa's the only one at Yoshimoto
who's actually earned the right to say that.
That's exactly the kind of guy he is.
This is the guy who wouldn't bungee jump
even after Ega-chan set it up
specifically for him.
Ega-chan even said he'd jump together with him,
and he still wouldn't jump.
Normally, if Ega-chan went that far for you,
you'd be moved by it —
even if you hated it, you'd at least hesitate.
But no, he went straight into refusal mode.
It's unthinkable, honestly unbelievable.
That's the moment Miyasako was finished —
as a comedian, and as a Japanese person.

Still better than 'Talent U,' who won't even allow impressions of himself these days.
Back then he was saying stuff like, "Isn't showing your face kind of risky? Going forward I'm going to stop showing my face in videos, for privacy reasons" — and the moment Okada Toshio called him out with "Nakata's an idiot, do that and you're done for," he quietly reversed course. That NG request dates from right around that period. Now he says, "Feel free to use my photo, no problem at all."
Watabe can still pull off the punching-bag role, but these two have this oddly inflated pride that makes even that impossible, so there's no use for them.
He was genuinely skilled, and after his breakout on Ametalk I figured he was set for life.
Yoshimoto completely blew it.
Then on top of that, even Matsumoto vanished, taking with him the last powerhouse comedian who could really run a show.
And now it's Ariyoshi's era.
I think it's the comedians who messed up, honestly.
Once everyone found out the world keeps turning without them, there was no going back.
Background and Key Points of the Discussion
Hiroyuki Miyasako left Yoshimoto Kogyo in the wake of the 2019 “underground dealings” scandal, and has since made YouTube his main platform. His latest comment wasn’t a declaration of a TV comeback — it was nothing more than a passing remark imagining what it would be like if he appeared on “Suiyōbi no Downtown” while watching it. Where thread opinion split was over whether it even makes sense for a comedian who’s built a career on YouTube to return to network TV: some argued “there’s no excuse now that YouTube exists,” while plenty of others pointed out how hard it would be for him to craft a workable on-air persona if he actually appeared. Several posts also drew a parallel with how Matsumoto Hitoshi vanished from television, though the reasons behind each man’s hiatus are fundamentally different, and the two shouldn’t be treated as equivalent.
