The story
Nintendo Switch 2 got a price hike in North America on September 1, 2026, and a post claiming its weekly sales immediately fell to roughly “6,000 units in a week” (based on overseas retailer bestseller rankings) became a hot topic on 5ch’s hardware/industry (“Geha”) board. The thread was split on whether this was just the comedown from pre-hike rush buying or the price hike itself biting into sales, and the discussion expanded into comparisons with PS5’s sales figures, the ranking of Nintendo/PlayStation/Xbox gift card sales, and predictions for Switch 2’s eventual lifetime sales (ranging from 80 million to over 100 million units).

6,000 units in one week
Probably because, even before the price hike, they'd already been selling the Japanese-market version cheaper in Japan only.
Well, overseas it's still the cheapest console out there, so I think it clears 100 million. A $50 hike in North America probably won't affect final sales much.
I think it hits 100 million. Whatever it loses in adoption speed, it makes up for with a longer sales run — it'll end up being a long-lived console and get there anyway.
I think that one's doable.
#2 PlayStation card
#4 Xbox card
#8 Nintendo card
Even the gift cards aren't selling lol
Losing to Xbox of all things is genuinely hilarious
Guess people don't want to hand over their credit card info to PlayStation.
PS5 is in year 6 (basically year 7 at this point), while Switch 2 just started year 2.
Why do people keep treating that as a fair comparison? 🤔
That's because everyone's stuck waiting for PS5 Pro restocks.
More like "8 to 1 thanks to the rush buying right before the price hike," not really "before the price hike" in general.
Still, if that retailer matters so much, why is Sony picking a fight with Walmart?
No way it gets there — there are still more price hikes coming.
Don't get so worked up, it's just a guess lol
PS5's about to lose out even with its last big fireworks show, the supposedly "world's strongest game" GTA6, coming out. Is Mr. Loser Hardware PS5 gonna be okay?
Can you say that again in coherent Japanese?
You can't find a PS5 Pro in stock anywhere anymore.
There's no way it keeps this pace — they're almost certainly raising prices again.
Switch 2: 6,000 units in a week
(This is AFTER the September 1st overseas price hike slowed it down)

PS5: 1,000 units in a week lol

Too crazy, lmao
Wonder if you'll be saying the same thing tomorrow? Can't wait to see.
Apparently it'll take 10 years just to catch up to that "even worse seller" lol
Well, if Nintendo skimps on info at the Direct the day after tomorrow, they're definitely getting branded incompetent for it.
Wasn't July down 51% year-over-year? August probably looked a bit better from last-minute rush buying, but from September on… yikes.
Background and key points of this discussion
Switch 2 got a price change (increase) in North America on September 1, 2026, and this thread was sparked by a post claiming that weekly sales immediately after fell to roughly “6,000 units a week,” a figure back-calculated from some retailers’ bestseller rankings. As the body text notes, this is an estimate derived from partial retailer rankings, not an official tally like NPD’s. The thread was split between those who saw it as “the comedown after a temporary spike from pre-hike rush buying” and those who blamed the price hike itself for the slowdown. In comparisons with PS5, commenters pointed out that PS5 is already in its 6th-7th year (late in its console life cycle) while Switch 2 has only just entered its 2nd year — a difference in release timing worth keeping in mind, since a simple weekly-unit comparison alone can be misleading. The lifetime sales predictions floated in the thread (from 80 million to over 100 million units) are speculation from the discussion itself, not official figures from Nintendo.
