Pushback Against ‘Cheap Android Is Enough’ — 5ch Says ‘iPhone Specs Are Actually Low’

The story

A thread titled “Cheap Android is enough, you don’t need iPhone-level performance” went up on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” (general live-discussion board), and it quickly drew pushback along the lines of “No way, iPhone specs are actually low.” The debate went beyond simple price or processing-speed comparisons, zeroing in on standard Android features the iPhone lacks — split-screen display, scrolling screenshots, and fully automatic call recording. It then spiraled into arguments over the Galaxy-vs-iPhone global market-share race and who really pioneered the foldable phone, turning into a mix of brand loyalty and practical feature debates.

It can't even do split-screen.
It's expensive, but that doesn't mean it's high-performance.
3AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:41
Performance-wise it's crazy high-end
but the OS is garbage.
9AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:45
Re: #3
That basically means the performance is low, doesn't it.
6AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:44
If you're not gaming, even the iPhone — which isn't that high-performance — is overkill, right?
19AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:49
Re: #6
It's not overkill, it's underpowered
since it can't even do what Android does as standard.
15AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:48
Even if the hardware is great, the OS is so garbage it drags everything down — same goes for Mac.
30AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:55
Re: #15
Nothing is as well-made as macOS though
it's UNIX-based and that level of polish is unmatched elsewhere.
22AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:52
Nice try, haters — there are things you can only experience on iPhone

23AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:52
Re: #1
Whether it can do split-screen isn't about performance, that's a feature.
35AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:57
Re: #23
A phone that can't do this or that — you have to call that low performance, no way around it.
29AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:54
Even on Android, split-screen only works on certain phones, right? Why can't people get that iPhone just doesn't include it because it's an unnecessary feature?
34AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:56
Re: #29
Honestly, splitting a screen that small seems like a hassle
I own a Galaxy and split-screen is genuinely useless.
38AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:58
This was supposed to be about how smartphones in general don't need that much performance, but it's turned into a brand-superiority fight — kind of hilarious how serious it's gotten lol

Re: #38
That's just Apple fanboys getting worked up and screeching about it.
45AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:02
Re: #41
In terms of market share, Galaxy and Apple are the top two, and 1st/2nd place swap back and forth a lot
with Xiaomi in 3rd

So 'poor = Android' isn't accurate.

Re: #45
Unfortunately, Samsung and Apple trading the top spot is old news
these days Apple is solely in 1st place.
54AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:04
Split-screen on a phone, what even is that lol
If I wanted to do that I'd just use a PC from the start.
60AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:09
Re: #54
At minimum you'd want a screen at least as big as a foldable's, right.
58AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:08
Every time a new foldable comes out people say this, but there's not much point in it actually folding.
64AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:10
Re: #58
It gets a bigger screen when you open it, so obviously there's a point.
63AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:09
iPhone🤓 (mockingly spelled “チーフォン” in half-width katakana, a parody spelling used to tease Apple fans): “Who even needs split-screen lol”
iPhone's new model adds split-screen support!
iPhone🤓: “IT'S HEEERE!!! GYAAAA!!!!!!!!! (ecstatic)”

iPhone… lol

Re: #63
Self-deprecating lol
65AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:11
Split-screen is just a tiny part of what iPhone can't do
for example, compared to Galaxy — the top-selling brand — iPhone can't take scrolling screenshots, can't do fully automatic call recording, can't use circle-to-search, and more.
69AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:12
Re: #65
Every one of those is a feature only gadget nerds care about lol
71AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:13
Re: #65
You can take scrolling screenshots, and you can search with Visual Intelligence too.
73AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:13
Re: #65
You can take full-page screenshots on iPhone now, can't you.
72AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:13
Gotta be Galaxy

Please, tell me one good thing about the bug-riddled Galaxy 🤗
74AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:15
Blind fanboys probably think the iPhone Duo was the first foldable phone.
75AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:16
Re: #74
They probably think Huawei was first lol
79AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:21
Re: #74
The first one was Royole's FlexPai, I know my stuff.
80AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:21
Carrying two phones makes a lot of things easier, yet some people stubbornly insist on using just one.
85AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:24
Re: #80
Carrying two around is just heavy, you know
I wish they'd release another phone like the Rakuten Mini.
88AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:25
You all buy these high-performance phones, but what do you actually use them for?
I just make calls, use LINE, browse the net, and check 5ch, so I don't need anything that powerful.
89AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:26
Re: #88
Low performance makes browsing a constant source of irritation though.
91AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:27
Re: #81
I use three phones for different purposes
and if you count the SE2 and the 8 that I barely use, that's five.
96AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:29
Re: #91
That's called 'owning phones,' not 'using' them
Looks like you learned something new on NanJ today (nickname for this board).

Background and key points of this discussion

“Performance” on a smartphone technically refers to CPU/GPU processing power, but in this thread it’s being used almost interchangeably with OS-level feature gaps — things like split-screen display, scrolling screenshots, and automatic call recording — so the discussion talks past itself. In reality, Apple’s own chips in the iPhone rank near the top in many general-purpose benchmarks, so the claim that “performance is low” is, strictly speaking, closer to pointing at missing features than at raw processing power. As for global market share, the race for first place between Samsung and Apple flips depending on the quarter and which research firm you ask, so which one is “solely in first” changes over time — the thread’s blanket statements shouldn’t be taken as settled fact. The same goes for who pioneered the foldable phone: multiple manufacturers, including Royole, Huawei, and Samsung, released similar products around the same time, so the definition of “first” varies depending on who you ask.
