Kappo Komeo Announces Closure

The story

“Kappo Komeo,” the restaurant run by Komeo — also known as a fighter — announced on October 1, 2026 that it will close. The closure follows a food-poisoning incident at the Azabu-Juban Summer Festival in August, after which Komeo issued a renewed apology on social media alongside the closure announcement. On 5ch, the thread debated reports that Staphylococcus aureus had been detected during a health department inspection, the fact that sister restaurant “Kaniwo” remains open, and who would ultimately bear responsibility for damages.

Komeo, the fighter who has been serving as owner-chef of “Kappo Komeo,” announced on the 1st that the restaurant will close. He revealed the news on his official social media.

Opening his post with “I have decided to close Kappo Komeo,” Komeo once again apologized for the food-poisoning incident that occurred at the Azabu-Juban Summer Festival in August. He shared his feelings: “What was missing? As someone who serves food, was I really facing up to my customers’ lives and health? The more I think about it, the more I feel my own immaturity, how lax my awareness was, and the weight of responsibility that comes with running a restaurant.” He went on, “Going through this has made me realize that as a cook, as a business owner, and as a person, I need to confront my own weaknesses. That’s why I’m closing Kappo Komeo.”

lol, if you grew up in Kansai listening to [comedian] Tsurukō's radio show, that's not how it sounds to you

Fair enough, honestly.
But at this point the only way out, short of paying up, is personal bankruptcy

A 4.0 rating from over 300 Google reviews is actually a really high score

There are a lot of fools in this world
Birds of a feather flock together
Decent people don't want anything to do with a place like this, so they don't even bother leaving a review

Was the food here actually any good?

Also, a swab test during the health department's investigation detected Staphylococcus aureus inside the restaurant. The official cause of the poisoning was Salmonella, but the source mentioned earlier noted that "it normally wouldn't turn up if food were being handled truly cleanly — it can happen when cleaning isn't thorough, or when people don't properly wash their hands after using the bathroom."

The state of staph bacteria on smartphones:
• High contamination rate: one study found Staphylococcus aureus on about 33% of phone screens and roughly 61% of phone backs.

Apparently he was fiddling with his phone in the kitchen and then plating sashimi with those same hands!

He always used to beat people up whenever there was trouble — so why didn't that work this time

Re: #105
Guess even he couldn't go beat up the health department

Just run a simple ramen shop.
Something like 'Brawler's Pride' for a name, you know.

Komeo really doesn't get it at all

Re: #119
Trying to go upscale was the mistake.
A casual diner fits his image way better.
Before worrying about brand image and profit, he needed to grind it out properly and honestly.
Cutting corners there and trying to leapfrog straight to the top is exactly how you end up like this
128AnonymousOct 1, 2026 20:12
That's strange… I thought he'd cleaned up his act… (lit. "washed his feet" — a Japanese idiom for going straight)

Re: #128
Guess he never washed his hands, though

Re: #141
Yeah, exactly, that's right.
Not sure if it was Horiemon or Mizoguchi who told him, but branding sure is hard, mr. ramen-shop guy

Re: #145
The ramen shop probably wasn't even his idea
There's clearly some Chinese business angle tangled up in this
This reeks of something dreamed up by the 'business owner' type
150AnonymousOct 1, 2026 20:20
Now that it's closed
there's no more compensation for the food poisoning
154AnonymousOct 1, 2026 20:21
Re: #150
The ramen shop seems to still be running, so he can just pay it back little by little

Food poisoning broke out from the ramen at "Kappo Komeo"
↓
In response to this incident, staff from both Kappo Komeo and Kaniwo underwent hygiene training together and thoroughly reviewed the restaurants' sanitation management.
We disinfected using a solution based on sodium hypochlorite, and re-inspected sanitation conditions wherever necessary.
Going forward, we will enforce strict hygiene management, including monthly stool tests for employees, daily staff health checks, and thorough store cleaning, disinfection, and ingredient management.

The restaurant business just isn't for you, Komeo (´・ω・`)

Re: #154
That's a different company from the ramen shop
so I'm not paying
165AnonymousOct 1, 2026 20:25
Re: #157
It's not the company — he personally is obligated to pay
He can't escape responsibility as the owner

Background and Key Points of the Debate

This closure traces back to a food-poisoning incident at the Azabu-Juban Summer Festival in August. While Salmonella was identified as the official cause, reports say a swab test of the restaurant during the health department’s investigation also detected Staphylococcus aureus, fueling criticism of lax hygiene management. The thread’s main point of debate was how damages would be handled after the closure. Separate from the corporate entity that runs “Kappo Komeo,” the ramen shop “Kaniwo,” also tied to Komeo, remains open, and opinions split over whether liability for damages would fall on Komeo personally or be limited to the closed restaurant’s corporation. Note that some of the specific claims circulating about the restaurant’s hygiene conditions come from unverified sources, and posts whose accuracy could not be confirmed were not used in this article.
