The story
Yusei Tomioka, featherweight champion of the Japan Kickboxing Association, posted an apology on X. The video that had been circulating reportedly shows a young man straddling another man and punching him, then repeatedly kicking him after he lost the will to fight and sat down. On 5ch, users questioned why the apology only came after the video spread, debated the statute of limitations for assault and the legal difference between “voluntary surrender” (jishu) and simply “turning oneself in” (shuttou), and traded unconfirmed claims that another assault video was also circulating.

What people said
The one where he kicks the guy in the face while he's sitting down?
Keep up the good work as a fighter.
That's the second video.
Another assault video got leaked after that apology too, right?
Leave the rest to me.
Never heard of this organization, so it probably doesn't have many affiliated gyms.
It's a minor-league outfit.
That's assault causing injury.

Doesn't anyone around him check his posts before he sends them?
If he was 13 at the time, he'd be handled under the Juvenile Act, so family court. A reformatory, not a prison.
Turn yourself in and apologize to the actual victim.
Surrounding one guy with your buddies so he can't run, beating him senseless, filming it, and posting it online —
if the victim presses charges, that's grounds for arrest.
The statute of limitations on assault causing injury is 10 years now.
This guy's done, lmaooo.
Did someone close to him leak it?
Oh, this one's bad.
This isn't a "just apologize" situation.
He needs to turn himself in fast or it's going to get worse.
Don't you mean "jishu" (voluntarily turning yourself in before you're caught)?
"Jishu" only counts if you come forward before the crime is discovered.
Since the assault's already been fully exposed, this would just be "shuttou" (reporting to authorities after the fact), not voluntary surrender.
Even if the police don't know about it yet?
The people around him don't sound much better either — apparently they're DMing threats at whoever exposed this.
Really? Where can you see that?
If it was 6 years ago, the statute of limitations hasn't run out…
This is an assault case.
It comes down to whether the victim files a police report or not.
"I hadn't started fighting yet" isn't going to fly as an excuse either.
He was probably already training — these aren't total-beginner movements.
It looks like he deliberately picked an opponent he knew he wouldn't lose to, just so he could beat him up.
He circles cleanly behind the guy with real technique, then messes around instead of finishing it.
If this really was before he started training, that means he was doing stuff like this all the time — he's clearly used to it.
Never heard of it.
It's the newly formed Japan Kick.
Japan Kick split off from the (New Japan Kick) association.
It's headed by Nagae of Jiseikan.
The group formed after parting ways with Ihara.
Background and Key Points of This Discussion
The Japan Kickboxing Association that Tomioka belongs to is a relatively new organization formed when it split off from the existing New Japan Kickboxing Association, which is why several 5ch users said they’d never heard of it. The statute of limitations for assault causing injury, a point of discussion in the thread, was extended to 10 years under the 2010 revision of the Code of Criminal Procedure — so if the incident in the video happened 6 years ago, the statute hasn’t run out. Users also pointed out the difference between “jishu” (voluntary surrender) and “shuttou” (reporting to authorities): jishu applies only when someone comes forward before investigators have identified them, which is legally different from this case, where the person involved has already been identified — meaning any step forward now would count as shuttou. That said, since prosecuting assault hinges on whether the victim files a formal complaint, the thread didn’t address the fact that the video going viral alone doesn’t necessarily mean an investigation starts.
