The story
On 5ch’s Hardware/Industry (Geha) board, a new game released only about a month and a half ago is making waves after its price dropped to ¥2,693 — a 70% discount. It’s rare for the actual street price (not counting point-back rebates) to fall this fast, and the thread was split on why: is this just a retailer clearing out dead stock, or a sign of a flop whose demand was badly misjudged? Another title seeing steep cuts around the same time, “Wolverine,” was brought up too, with posters comparing how quickly each game’s price is collapsing.
What people said
This thing is sitting in a mountain of unsold stock
With a drop this fast it's gotta be 'green' (Famitsu's sell-through color code for a flop)
Turning into trash at an insane speed lol
Those guys probably don't feel any responsibility for this
And yet all these guys have is Pokémon — same verdict as always
It's already headed that way
Wolverine: 24% off!
Fire Emblem: no discount at all!
how cheaply/lazily was this outsourced game even made
……….
Retailers cutting their losses? What does the retail price have to do with the publisher's development budget?
Even a grade-schooler isn't that dumb
It's Rakuten selling at a loss to cut it loose, dude
You say that about every female character, don't you
Re: #47
It's cheap to begin with, that's why they can knock the price down
Retailers aren't the publisher, so they didn't need to rush the discount — but they did it anyway, that's the point
'Cutting losses'? You been watching too much stock market stuff or something?
They're a retailer — they sell at a loss to cut dead-stock risk and recoup at least something, what are you even saying…
Shelf space is limited, you know
If it would sell eventually just by sitting there, they wouldn't need to do this
If the sell-through rate comes up 'green,' a 70% discount is basically locked in
That one's basically being given away for free anyway — a bargain one-coin price is definitely coming
Even if it weren't day one, you still wouldn't buy it?
it's crashing this hard in price…?
This place really is a graveyard for games
Third-party devs must hate dealing with this too
If 'decently playable' is the ceiling, isn't this about the right price for it?
Even the guy bothering to defend it can only manage 'decently playable' — that's exactly why it's ended up like this
Games are supposed to be playable to begin with, that's the whole point
Background and Talking Points
On the Geha (Hardware/Industry) board, “wall” (壁) is originally slang for a title that ranks near the top of the sales charts, and this thread’s title uses the word ironically in that spirit. The debate centers on why the price dropped: is it simply a retailer clearing inventory early, or a sign of a flop whose demand was misjudged? Price cuts like this are usually driven by the retailer rather than the publisher, so a sharp drop doesn’t necessarily mean a direct loss for the maker. That said, the thread also mixes in unconfirmed rumors about the developer’s internal situation, so it’s worth being careful not to conflate the fact of a discount with the game’s actual quality or the publisher’s inner workings.
