The story
The movie Star Detective Precure! hit theaters on its opening day, and 5ch’s anime live-discussion thread filled up with reports of fans scrambling to grab theater merch and the “Hochi Shimbun Precure Special Edition” newspaper, which doubled as a pamphlet. At the same time, worried voices weighed in on the box office prospects — “turnout from kids feels weak even on day one,” “this is a front-loaded series, so ¥2 billion is going to be tough” — mixing with posts surprised at how many people showed up on a weekday. Debates over which characters are most popular and speculation about where the franchise goes next also cropped up, making for a thread that blended opening-day excitement with cool-headed analysis.

What people said
Tried to rejoin society but quit 3 jobs in a row after short stints, so I've been a NEET since last November.
But thanks to Star Detective Precure, I landed my 4th job this September.

This Precure movie was basically my exact story.
By the way, this is the bag I carry to work now:

Ha, the Abyss poster/standee cracked me up (w). Last movie I went to see was 'Dawn,' guess I'll go see 'Mystery' too.
Ah well, the theater merch will probably turn up online eventually.
Wrong thread with what, exactly??
Eh, it's not even really the wrong thread — it fits right in.
It's billed as a "newspaper," but the notice says to stock it on the magazine shelf — try the magazine corner instead.
Spotted some little girls cosplaying as Mystic, Arcana, and Eclair.
People were waving their Miracle Lights (glow sticks) a ton, and there was a scene near the end that got the whole theater buzzing.
Catching it during the day was the right call — you really get that classic Precure atmosphere.
Was there really a scene near the end that got people buzzing? Where I watched it, it was mostly childless adults, so I couldn't tell.
Might end up pulling fewer viewers than Kimi Pri (a previous Precure entry).
It's technically a weekday, but do grade-school girls these days get weekdays off?
Kids these days are busier than Re: #45 is.
There's apparently a creeper here who goes to girls' movies every single year on opening day (a weekday) and keeps a tally of how many kids show up.

Gorgeous 😚
I'm fine being the only one who's into Answer.
Guess I'll take Kobayashi, then!
Anna's mom > Elisa > Mikuru > Anna, that's my ranking — got zero interest in Arcana.
Can't watch it live, so I'll catch the stream.
These are the hardcore girls who show up on opening day to cheer it on — decked out in cosplay and merch, they've got a whole different look about them.
Might've just missed it, but I feel like there wasn't even a magazine corner at that store.
Guess some stores really don't have a magazine corner at all.
It gets delivered boxed up as part of the regular "magazine delivery," so if a store doesn't carry magazines, that delivery never comes — meaning they probably never got any stock to begin with.
Precure movies are front-loaded, so at this pace ¥2 billion is going to be tough.
Just keep cranking out random Arcana shikishi boards (autographed art boards) and cards and this thing could actually pull it off.

Just buying merch racks up TOHO points, and 120 points gets you a free movie — that's busted.

Gonna use it for repeat viewings of Precure.
A lot of people are saying it'd be a waste to wrap it up this year.
Might work if they bring in a rival team.
Guess we'll just have to wait for a second season, like they did with Maho Girls Precure!.
Heck, throw in some of the rarer crime types from the link below too

I'd like fewer episodes built around a full mystery-solving segment, and a shorter transformation sequence.
Also, if the Precures don't carry their detective side into the action after transforming, it's not really a "Great Detective Precure" in the true sense.
I want them to either transform before the deduction segment starts, or work deduction into the battle segment itself. In the first case, once they've identified the culprit they'd immediately drive off or defeat the enemy — basically merging the detective segment with the Precure segment. In the second case, it'd be things like reasoning out the enemy's weak points mid-fight.
That's how you'd get the detective elements and the battle elements to coexist.
As it stands, I don't think the mystery-solving segment and the Precure segment are balanced well enough.
?
Wasn't it because there was a Part 2? I recall people saying Depa Pri (Delicious Party♡Precure) missed its guest-appearance slot two years running because of that.
never expected even Jet-senpai would end up transforming into a Precure.
Cure Pochitan was great, wasn't it?
Background and Talking Points
Poster #45’s claim of “sales down by half” is worth taking with a grain of salt — it’s an anonymous guess, not backed by any real box office data. Poster #86’s take that “this is a front-loaded series, so ¥2 billion is a stretch” reflects the fact that Precure movies typically have their whole year’s performance decided by opening-week turnout, and poster #93’s “just sell the merch with random inserts” response builds on that same logic. The hope for a sequel voiced by poster #103 draws on the precedent of Maho Girls Precure! getting a second season, though whether this film wraps up the story for good this year hasn’t been officially announced. As for weekday attendance, posts expressing surprise at how many kids skipped school to attend crossed paths with pushback aimed at the poster doing the observing — so the real picture of turnout doesn’t go beyond anecdotal, on-the-ground impressions.
