The story
Regarding the anime adaptation of the manga Mii-yama, the publisher released a statement saying it is “continuing discussions on whether to proceed as planned.” The series, which centers on a disabled protagonist, has long been a flashpoint over whether it should be adapted at all, partly due to unconfirmed allegations that the author made discriminatory remarks. On 5ch, opinions split between users who read the announcement as a de facto cancellation and those urging caution, arguing “nothing has actually been decided yet.” The thread also broadened into a debate over standards for depicting disability in fiction, with comparisons drawn to past acclaimed works.
Another “win” for us, I guess.

What people said
I think "suspended" is basically what they mean by "cancelled" here, no?
It hasn't stopped though. They're just saying they're "considering it" — on the ground, production's still moving lol
Where does it say "cancelled"?
Though I guess ecchi content works too!!
sounds like it's already pretty far along.
My guess is it lands as a streaming-only release with no terrestrial broadcast.
why is Mii-yama the only one getting slammed for being discriminatory toward disabled people? (Hadaka no Taishou: a classic Japanese drama about a real intellectually disabled painter)
Wait, the Hadaka no Taishou guy actually had an intellectual disability…?
Huh, that's genuinely shocking.
It's because the editorial team got way too carried away —
now there's no excuse left to fall back on.
They needed to push this through at 100 Wani speed or it was never gonna work. (100 Wani: a manga whose hype imploded right after its heavily-hyped ending)
That's nothing alike.
I said it's similar, didn't I —
like how they both boil down to gut-punch, infuriating plot twists.
It's fine because it's not about a disabled character.
That's not actually the reason the cancellation call was made.
Write it properly as Azuki Nene (Diana).
You guys got baited and kept this thread running forever.
As the 100 Wani case proved, we're great at flip-flopping.
Are you new here or something?
Worst case, they just end up streaming it online.
If it's from a Kenmo guy, it's gotta be legit. (sarcastic)

The middle-school arc was honestly so heartbreaking it made my chest tighten up while reading.
But I'd genuinely love to see the "Mii-chan's ears!!" scene animated.
Background and Key Points of the Debate
The phrase the publisher actually used in its announcement was “continuing discussions” — the word “cancelled” is purely an interpretation by thread posters. There remains a strong view that production itself hasn’t actually stopped, and it’s easy to mistake the situation for a final decision when none has been made. The real divide wasn’t over whether a disabled character should be depicted at all, but over how to weigh the unconfirmed allegations directed at the author personally. While comparisons were drawn to existing acclaimed works dealing with disability, such as Hadaka no Taishou and Forrest Gump, many pointed out that the difference lies not in the content of the work itself but in the author’s conduct. It’s also worth noting that most of the allegations against the author remain unconfirmed and unacknowledged by the author, so the definitive-sounding claims in the thread shouldn’t be taken at face value as fact.
