The story
In the live-discussion thread for the new series “Detective Precure!”, a post showing average Kanto-region ratings of 1.42% sparked discussion. The figure continues a gradual decline that set in after the previous shows “Tobidasu School” and “Koupen-chan” ended their runs, and some pointed out it’s lower than variety shows airing on other networks in the same time slot. Others argued the ratings survey itself may skew toward older households, splitting opinion on how to read the numbers. The thread ranged well beyond ratings too, touching on merchandise rollouts and popularity comparisons with “Ojamajo Doremi.”

Isn't Jet-senpai getting left out?

The scripts look shaky enough that I feel like I'm about to drop out of this show.
No contest, it's Ojamajo Doremi.
Even now, the Toei Animation specialty store has Ojamajo Doremi and Digimon (the original) sitting at the top.

Isn't that just because it's an anniversary year [for those shows]?
Come to think of it, pretty much every Toei anime before that which got popular and sold well was based on existing source material — Kitaro, Go Nagai's works, Leiji Matsumoto, Akira Toriyama, Kinnikuman, Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon, Slam Dunk, One Piece, etc.
Even their mascot Pero is the lead character from "Puss in Boots."
Wasn't it really Ojamajo Doremi and Digimon that first sold well enough on their own to become original flagship titles?

The fact that there are toenails means it's an AI-generated image — the official Tanpuri acrylic stands never draw toenails even on bare feet, like in Re: #115.
Yeah, I like the second batch better too.
Glad my local Gokurakuyu is running this — though I did blow a lot of money on it.
It's not a franchise that needs to tread carefully like Detective Conan, so I figured they'd do a bit more with it.
I thought they might go as far as having Chiemi Chiba (Doremi's voice actress) voice the little girl character.
It's literally called "Detective" and they don't even tie in with Toei's old detective shows — no way they'd be that thoughtful.
It may not look it, but this is actually a fairly carefully handled collab.
The Precure world and the Doremi world have different character proportions, so a direct crossover isn't really possible.
Plus the rights situation is subtly different too.
Well, Precure's going to start airing in their world too eventually.
In the Tanpuri world, "Princess Nadja" probably became a massive hit and got a sequel made, I bet.
After the Doremi series ended, there was a one-year gap filled with Toei Animation's own "World Masterpiece Theater"-style show…
That flopped, and as a stopgap follow-up to it, they made an unconventional girls' anime that became an unexpectedly huge hit.
22 years on from that… you really never know what's going to spark a series into running this long.
② "Change"?
What is that even supposed to mean

Isn't that just "funny face" (henkao)?
If "funny face" (henkao) and "exercise" (undou) look the same to you, go see an eye doctor.
As of 1999, the original had 3 (Doremi, Hazuki, Aiko, Onpu) + 1 (Pop) + 1 (Onpu)
Real actual little girls today wouldn't know about that stuff.
It's more a "maybe their moms would know" kind of thing.
This survey's got to be skewed toward older households.
I mean, shows like "Shuichi" and "Sunday Morning" aren't interesting at all [yet they'd rate fine].
Looking at the trend, ratings dropped sharply right after "Tobidasu School" started and the first run of "Koupen-chan" ended.
They've recovered a bit since Precure started, but it's a little concerning that they're still plainly lower than "Sunday Break," a show that's already been called out for having too-low ratings.

My Kobayashi is incredibly cute.
Shouldn't Jet-senpai be holding a scone instead?… London's right there in the picture.
Cute, but it doesn't read as a Precure illustration.
It's like an anime character just put into real-world clothes.
Despite the cheerful vibe of the opening song, the main story is actually pretty heavy.
Yeah, it got used constantly on Niconico. It's definitely a case of just the song being famous.
A lot of anime from the late '90s through the early 2000s were pretty dark. Probably because the bubble economy had just burst, followed back-to-back by the Great Hanshin earthquake, the Aum Shinrikyo affair, 9/11, and so on.
Funny enough, even on a different network, the actual voice cast showed up and sang on "Monitoring" lol.

As of 1999, Onpu-chan was already there, but Momoko and Hana weren't yet.

Background and Key Points of This Topic
The Sunday 8:30 a.m. slot belongs to Toei Animation’s “Nichiasa” children’s programming block, and since ratings measure entire households, the numbers don’t necessarily match how the show’s actual core audience — preschoolers and elementary schoolers — is really responding to it. The thread’s suggestion that “the survey skews toward older households” is a common claim made when comparing against daytime talk shows, but the thread itself never actually verified the survey methodology. The Precure franchise has run for more than 20 years since starting in 2004, and its origin traces back to a World Masterpiece Theater-style show Toei Animation ran as a stopgap after “Ojamajo Doremi” ended — which flopped — a history that underlies the thread’s popularity-comparison debate. As the discussion shows, low ratings don’t automatically mean declining popularity, with other measures like Blu-ray bonus content and collaboration merchandise also being cited.
