Wolverine Racks Up a 4.85-Star Rating on the PlayStation Store, Tops 12,000 Reviews

The story

The action game Marvel’s Wolverine has already topped 12,000 reviews on the PlayStation Store with a stellar 4.85-star average, sparking discussion on 5ch’s Hardware & Industry (“Geha”) board. There’s precedent for this kind of thing: Monster Hunter Wilds got a lukewarm reception on Steam but scored above 4 stars on the PS version. Thread posters debated the mechanics behind the ratings, with some arguing “PlayStation users never leave harsh reviews” and others countering “only people who bought the digital download can review at all, so of course it skews positive.” Still, posters who’d actually played the game shared genuinely favorable impressions of the graphics and controls, showing the reaction wasn’t purely a numbers debate.

Busted, same as Marathon (a reference to Bungie's Marathon, which had a review-bot scandal exposed)

Re: #7
Exactly
Though it's only 4.2

Even mineo's famously neutral "anti-console-war" account is raving about it (mineo is a Japanese mobile carrier known for a cheeky, fandom-neutral social media presence)
9AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:34
Lol, it's bots
Anything goes these days

Re: #9
Any reality they don't like gets written off as bots, buyouts, manipulation, stealth marketing, or impersonation
Anything goes
10AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:34
Having more 1-star ratings than 2- or 3-star is kind of a red flag
11AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:34
Way too many reviews! That's obviously inflated lol, tone it down lmaooo

Re: #11
Only digital buyers can even leave a review though
18AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:36
Haven't heard a single actual impression of Wolverine on Geha

Re: #18
Only played a bit yesterday, but the graphics are gorgeous, the character controls feel about average (not especially easy),
the enemies are decently tough, and the cutscenes give every character a lot of personality — it's pretty solid

With ratings like this, they'll dodge the layoffs
21AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:38
Re: #12
Sony itself can tweak this however they want
they're the platform admin after all

Re: #21
Exactly this
Same padding as with XIV (Final Fantasy XIV)
22AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:38
Lol, same story as with Wilds
Steam was overwhelmingly negative while the PS Store sat at like 4 or 5 stars
23AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:39
Current state of little Wilds
24AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:39
Wasn't Marathon the one where the high ratings climbed right along with the low ones?
25AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:40
Re: #5
That's talking about Nintendo fanboys who barely get any multiplatform titles lol
35AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:43
Re: #25
Actually, Nintendo hardware gets more multiplatform titles overall
27AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:40
PlayStation users don't give low ratings — even that game and FF15 never dropped below 4 stars
Even Wilds got a ridiculously generous 4.1
30AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:42
Wasn't there an IGN reviewer who got fired for writing a spiteful review out of anger over disc drives being dropped?
Metascore's gotten pretty untrustworthy lately
Honestly it was already off back when Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey both scored 97
31AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:42
So PlayStation users just love childish kiddie games…?!
32AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:43
Let's wait until all the ratings are in
Depending on how it shakes out, we'll see exactly how biased PS fans' ratings are toward their own
Then again, if the game's actually good, outsider and insider scores should even out fine
33AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:43
"It's the X reviews!"
"It's the PS Store reviews!"

Don't you gokis (a mocking 5ch term for PlayStation fans) have any words of your own lol
34AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:43
On the very same PS Store where even Concord scored above 4!?
42AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:48
Already bought it though…

Re: #42
My condolences 🥺
48AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:52
So Wolverine-style games are what really resonates with PS users
Guess that's the template for future PS5 first-party titles

Re: #48
I think the Wolverine formula is solid
– Strong IP
– Short time to finish
– No weird bogged-down sections
– Great graphics, high framerate
– Heavy focus on story and drama
50AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:53
I mean, the PS Store gave Wilds high ratings too

Ideal

Reality

Re: #50
The real problem is that 70% of Steam users are running PCs weaker than a PS5
51AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:53
Re: #17
That's more than the actual review count, lmao — typical Sony ("サスソニ," meaning "classic Sony")
55AnonymousSep 16, 2026 08:55
Re: #51
What are you even talking about?
72AnonymousSep 16, 2026 09:04
It's getting good buzz on Twitter too, but since mommy banned little Switch fanboys ("ぶーちゃん," a mocking nickname for Nintendo fans) from social media, no need to pretend you'd know
78AnonymousSep 16, 2026 09:07
Re: #72
Still saying this lol
Your feed's just skewed because you only follow people like that lol
86AnonymousSep 16, 2026 09:14
If PS users rate a game like this so highly, they clearly have zero eye for good games
87AnonymousSep 16, 2026 09:15
Re: #86
That's the trusted, proven track record of the PS crowd for you

[Good news] Monster Hunter Wilds hits 400k concurrent players lmaooo

Re: #1
Review counts:
PS (store only): 24,491 reviews, ★4.60
Steam: 3,108 reviews, Mixed

Background and Key Points of the Debate

The PlayStation Store’s review system generally only lets users who’ve purchased the digital download post a review. Unlike Steam, this makes it less likely for complaints tied to varying hardware setups to slip in — but it also skews the pool toward people who already committed to buying, which tends to push scores higher. The thread’s go-to example, Monster Hunter Wilds, drew a wave of complaints on Steam over low-spec PC performance issues and settled at a “mixed” rating there, while the PS version of the same game scored highly — so this kind of cross-platform rating gap isn’t unique to this case. At the same time, posters voiced distrust of Metascore and IGN’s review standards (bringing up the story of a reviewer said to have been fired over a spiteful review written in anger at disc drives being dropped), reflecting lingering skepticism toward review scores in general. That said, posters who’d actually played the game also shared favorable impressions of the controls, graphics, and content volume — a detail that’s easy to miss amid the pure numbers debate.
