The story
A video capturing moments in Sony’s new action game Wolverine where the game keeps progressing without the player touching the controller has gone viral on social media, sparking discussion on 5ch’s hardware/industry (Geha) board. Early comments suggested it might be due to an accessibility feature, but posters in the thread pointed out that hands-free progression still happened even with every assist feature switched off, leading many to conclude this couldn’t simply be chalked up to a settings mistake. Posts also drew comparisons to the game’s reported $300+ million development budget and the earlier FF16 PR controversy, with the discussion extending to comparisons with Forza Horizon 6’s self-driving feature.
What people said
It was some foreign guy's review that called it kid-friendly in the first place
Geha posters were just laughing along with that
It's seriously retracing FF16's whole trajectory — proudly dropping a crappy video, getting torn apart for it, and the publisher losing its temper over it…
It won't progress if you don't press anything

And that settled it
So it was Xbox fanboy ("Chika") sabotage after all? Unforgivable

If there were a bunch of playable characters each with different body types, I could still understand it
But this is a $300+ million game with literally only Wolverine in it — how does it end up this sloppy?
I really want to believe this is just a bug
Forget 'cheap-looking' — the water splash itself is just broken lol
It's unthinkable for a AAA title, but even if they had to implement it this way
they could've at least tuned it better than this
Were they just slacking off?
Driveline is for beginners — wait, do you mean the self-driving mode?
That's meant for enjoying the scenery and taking nice photos, isn't it?
Self-driving isn't going to win you any races anyway
It can't even clear the Festival objectives
The difficulty's locked now too, so it's already hard enough playing normally
If they'd spent the money they blew on Concord, Wolverine, Toukon, and Marathon instead, funding a new Kojima game would've been no problem
The fanboys are seriously going to lose it
Might as well use this as a chance to drop them

Games right now are facing a crisis when it comes to creativity.
Honestly, after seeing Wolverine, I can't even laugh this off anymore
The director really did have foresight after all
This is the same kind of thing, right?
I don't get why Geha's acting like this being off by default is somehow the whole story
lol
Guess the 'accessibility guy's' argument just fell apart
You don't even own it, do you?
By default you'll get wrecked by random mobs easily
The only thing auto-drive can't win is that one part where you're jumping around in a tight space
Even there you can win by just taking manual control right before the last jump
If you lower the difficulty, you can even take first in the Goliath race on auto-drive with no effort
Regular events you can manage since you can lower the difficulty,
but the seasonal Festival got locked to fixed difficulty even outside of Trials, so I gave up
Can you change the difficulty again now?
Up through Season 2 you could still change the difficulty, so it was manageable
From Season 3 on, even solo races got locked to fixed difficulty
That's where I gave up on Seasons too

Makes you wonder — maybe they got so annoyed at complaints that their old games were nothing but QTEs
that they made this game-ish thing just to make players appreciate how lucky they were to even get to press a button during a QTE
Looking at this, it seems like
only the QTEs that happen during actual combat have a fail state
while the ones during cutscenes probably don't
I gave up on Seasons and just cleared it by grabbing all the treasure cars, mascots, and every road
Gave up on collecting every scoreboard though
Background and key points of this discussion
Auto-QTE is usually included as an accessibility feature for players who find manual controls difficult. The point of contention this time was whether hands-free progression still happens even with that feature turned off — within the thread, opinions split between those saying “it’s off by default” and those saying “it happened even with every assist turned off,” and no consensus was reached. Behind this lies a string of controversies surrounding Sony’s PS5 exclusive lineup: the backlash over FF16’s PR video, the early shutdown of the big-budget live-service title Concord, Kojima Productions’ apparent split from Sony, and other incidents that have piled up over the past few years — much of which shaped the reaction to this video as “here we go again.” It’s worth noting that what setting actually caused this has yet to be verified at the source, and the facts aren’t fully settled based on 5ch posts alone.
