The story
It’s been revealed that “FF7 Revelation,” the concluding chapter of the FF7 Remake trilogy, will launch on April 8, 2027, sparking a thread on 5ch’s Live News (Games) board. While original fans welcomed the news with comments like “Just getting more good-looking FF7 is satisfying enough on its own,” the CG and character design in Yuffie’s reveal scene drew criticism as “outdated by today’s graphics standards.” The thread filled with a mix of excitement and gripes — worries about the exploration elements that felt like such a slog in the previous game, ‘Rebirth,’ debate over the removal of save-data carryover, and speculation about when the mobile game ‘Ever Crisis’ will shut down.
What people said
Exactly.
They just won't let you get on with the story.
● Release the complete pack
● Discount it
And then people will finally buy it.
Basically the same pattern as FF15.
It'll come out on the same release day.
I have a feeling that a few years down the line they'll repackage it as a single title that fixes the progression-reset problem caused by splitting it into parts.
You mean the mobile game EC? Yeah, honestly, same.
Only a handful of people feel that way, I bet.
Mobile games are a totally different battlefield from the start. It's never going to be a fight with console games.
Honestly, Square Enix's character designers just have outdated taste to begin with.
Modern Square Enix has dated taste, but they'll still go out of their way to put characters in tights just to avoid panty shots. If they're going to bother, they should redesign the outfits too.
Rebirth didn't sell, so the budget probably got cut. Feels like they just want to rush it out and close the project.
FF7 Ever Crisis is also ending service this October, right? Normally you'd think that no matter how much it's losing money, they'd hang on at least until the final FF7 title to avoid hurting the FF7 brand's reputation. But I guess Square Enix doesn't even expect the Remake finale to sell anymore, since they're ending Ever Crisis before the finale even comes out.
Rebirth final boss: Sephiroth
Revelation final boss: ?
I haven't played the Remake games, but from what I've seen they're bringing in characters from parallel timelines, so I bet they'll frame even Sephiroth as a victim and roll out some evil mastermind pulling the strings behind the world — riding on Sephiroth's popularity while they're at it.
The maps are big, but there's zero actual freedom in them.
Modern FF barely even has proper towns anyway. Exploration that's just big with no freedom at all is the worst kind there is.
Compared to other companies' games, the design sense is frighteningly bad. Even the enemy designs were only good up through FF6.
Seriously, I don't think the FF devs even look at current games anymore. Character designs like FF's are already a pretty outdated model at this point.
Is there even another game out there selling well with character designs like FF's?
I don't think there is. It's had old, uncool taste for ages.
Background and Key Points of This Topic
The FF7 Remake trilogy began with ‘Remake’ in 2020 and continued with ‘Rebirth’ in 2024, and now concludes with this title, ‘Revelation.’ The complaints about exploration elements that kept coming up in the thread are actually an extension of existing criticism aimed at the open-world-style side content in the previous game, ‘Rebirth’ — it’s easy to mistake this for commentary on Revelation’s own content, which hasn’t actually been revealed yet. The removal of save-data carryover is also rooted in the fact that compatibility already broke with the PS4 version of ‘Remake,’ the original installment, rather than being a change to the series’ overall specs. Opinions on the character designs are split between those calling designer Tetsuya Nomura’s work “dated” and those defending it out of love for the original — a debate that isn’t unique to this title but has followed the FF series for years. Note also that, at the time of this thread, the timing of mobile game ‘Ever Crisis’ ending service was unconfirmed speculation, not information that can be stated as fact.
