Capcom Reportedly Set to Bring Resident Evil Titles to Switch 2 One After Another, Sparking Buzz

The story

Capcom is reportedly planning to bring a large number of Resident Evil series titles to the Nintendo Switch 2, a claim that lit up 5ch’s hardware/industry board. The trigger was first-week sales data for this year’s Resident Evil Requiem — 155,373 units on PS5 versus 38,793 on Switch 2. Combined with Sony’s announced move away from disc drives, posters speculated that users who prefer buying physical copies might migrate to Switch 2, and the thread also lit up with wishes for old-game remakes and predictions about future ports.

Apparently set to be announced at a Nintendo Direct

By the way, the Switch 2 version got absolutely crushed by the PS5 version in sales lol

Re: #7
And with the disc drive gone, looks like every disc user is migrating to Switch 2 🫵🤣
77AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:46
Re: #7
Is Sony really willing to abandon this many users who bought on disc?
8AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:31
Isn't there a Resident Evil 1 remake?
16AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:33
Re: #8
The GameCube version remaster is the latest one we've got.
11AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:32
Ever since that 'barrier' comment, the sprint to escape said barrier has been way too full-throttle, lmao
12AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:32
Re: #11
Well, if they knew discs were getting axed, this all makes sense.

Re: #11
Discs discontinued, no longer stocked in stores
No PS6 planned
Don't even need to keep selling PS5 anymore

Of course people are jumping ship.
17AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:33
I might just buy RE4 for the gyro-aim into melee combos with the Pro Controller.
85AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:50
Re: #17
Can you even aim by pointing directly at the screen without a sensor bar though?
19AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:33
They wouldn't bother releasing it if it didn't sell, so Resident Evil must be moving units.
22AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:34
Re: #19
Even in Japan, Switch 2 ended up outselling PS5 in the back half. Overseas it's probably even more lopsided.
24AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:34
Not a 'Switch 2 Edition,' but a separate release?
26AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:35
Re: #24
The Switch 1 version was a cloud version to begin with, remember.
30AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:36
Maybe Okami and the like will ditch State of Play too and get their first reveal on Switch?
34AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:37
Re: #30
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is coming out, so yeah, Okami probably really is headed to Switch 2 as well.
32AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:37
Wonder if they'll do another triple-pack bundle for RE2, RE3, and RE4?
37AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:38
Re: #32
The 7/8/9 bundle was such a good deal, but it never got reprinted so I couldn't get it. Should've bought it when I had the chance.
33AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:37
Wasn't there that issue where the female characters look uglier on the PS5 version lol. Good news for the Switch 2 version then.
38AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:38
Re: #33
For RE2 through 4, it probably won't be any different from the versions already out there. Though whether it runs at 30fps or 60fps is a fair concern.
56AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:41
Capcom finally got around to Code: Veronica, so RE0 and RE1 remakes will probably follow. Not much novelty left in 'RE-making' anything from 5 onward though.
60AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:42
Re: #56
For 5, I'd want them to fix the inability to move while aiming. 6 needs a full ground-up rebuild honestly.
58AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:41
There've been a lot of thread titles with a heart symbol lately. Is that some kind of marking too?
71AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:45
Re: #58
Never even noticed that.
92AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:51
Re: #58
The one adding the heart always has a post ID ending in 'r,' so it's probably the same person.
63AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:43
I think Ace Attorney is also set to be shown at the Direct. But what about State of Play…?
69AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:45
Re: #63
Announcing it at State of Play would basically be a punishment game lol
73AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:45
Re: #63
They're the type to keep up appearances out of obligation, so they'll probably at least feature the Wilds DLC.
78AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:47
Meanwhile, PS5 games are hitting 100 yen in what looks like a 'clearing out before we bail' sale.
89AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:50
Re: #78
Full price only survives on Switch now lol
80AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:48
Re: #65
Well, they've focused on PlayStation up to now, and PS does have more Resident Evil fans. But for multiplatform titles overall, Nintendo users actually buy more copies — outside of a handful of exceptions, PS users really don't buy as many games.
91AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:51
Re: #80
Even though Like a Dragon and Pragmata both got crushed on Switch 2, the only games where Switch 2 has outsold PS5 are basically shovelware lol
82AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:49
Going forward, the crowd that saves money buying physical (and hedges against duds by reselling) isn't going to buy the PS5 version — which will be digital-only and unsellable once purchased — they'll buy the Switch 2 version instead.

Honestly, I figured I'd keep holding onto my PS5 as long as I could still save money buying physical. But now that option's gone. And it's happening mid-cycle for the PS5, no less.

A PS5 with no disc drive is nothing but a downgraded PC — it has no reason to exist anymore lol
84AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:50
Re: #82
Paying for online on top of that feels wasteful too, so a lot of people will probably just sell off the whole console.
88AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:50
Capcom makes huge money off its back catalog, so anything that can be ported gets ported.
114AnonymousSep 2, 2026 11:57
Re: #88
Seems like it keeps selling steadily across a lot of countries over the long run. They're probably not judging things by first-week numbers alone, and if a port is doable, there's no real reason not to release it.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

The premise behind this discussion is the actual sales gap in first-week figures for this year’s Resident Evil Requiem: 155,373 units on PS5 versus 38,793 units on Switch 2. Looking at those numbers alone, PS5 appears to be winning by a landslide, but posters’ interest was really directed at what comes next — specifically, with Sony signaling plans to drop the disc drive, which platform physical-media buyers would migrate to. Capcom’s long-running business model of profiting from ports and remakes of older titles was also a hot topic, alongside discussion of past franchises like Okami, Onimusha, and Ace Attorney. It’s also worth noting that claims along the lines of “Switch 2 is outselling PS5” appeared in the thread, but no concrete figures or sources were given to back them up — they should be read as posters’ personal impressions rather than verified data.
