  • King of Conte Comeback Round ‘1-Point’ Score Sparks Backlash — Comedian Demands Judge ‘Come Forward,’ Publishes Their Email

The “King of Conte 2026” loser’s revival round, held on October 17, debuted a new format in which 60 comedy acts — those who placed 11th through 20th in the semifinals — were scored from 1 to 5 points by fellow comedians acting as judges, drawn from acts that advanced past the quarterfinals or placed near the bottom of the semifinals. Aoyama Fall-Katsu of the comedy trio Nelsons, the only act to receive a score of 1, updated X (formerly Twitter) by the 21st demanding that the judge who scored him “come forward,” publishing an email address and declaring he would “resort to drastic measures” if no one contacted him. On 5ch forums, opinions split between those who saw this as pro-wrestling-style theater (kayfabe) and those who saw it as excessive, bordering on extortion.

Comedian in KOC Comeback Round’s “1-Point Controversy” Demands Judge “Come Forward,” Threatens “Drastic Measures” After Publishing Email Address

Aoyama Fall-Katsu (40) of the comedy trio Nelsons updated X by the 21st, declaring he would keep hunting for the judge who gave him a score of 1 in the comedian-judged scoring at the October 17 “King of Conte 2026” loser’s revival round.

In the competition’s first-ever revival round, 60 comedians who had advanced to the quarterfinals or beyond served as judges, each scoring acts from a minimum of 1 point to a maximum of 5.

Yeah, it's probably kayfabe (pro-wrestling-style theater), but we live in an age where this kind of stunt gets taken at face value.

The rules let judges score anywhere from 1 to 5 — so why's he mad someone actually used the 1?
    51AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:48
Honestly this is overshadowing the actual winners, Jerardon (this year's champions).

    Re: #7
Apparently it's fine if an amateur does it, but not okay for a pro comedian to give another comedian a score of 1… Doesn't really track — if 3 is the midpoint, there's nothing weird about a 2 below that, or a 1 below that.
    15AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:42
Also, are the organizers not going to say anything about this?
Won't this cause problems for how things are run going forward? It's a scoring competition, and he's lodging a direct complaint against a judge — and this is a contest with prize money on the line.
    16AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:42
The guy himself probably thinks he's just joking around,

What he's really saying is, 'Everyone give out 1s again next year's revival round too, got it?' Win or lose the revival round, it's nothing but good PR for Nelsons.

    Is he an idiot?
I haven't watched a second of the show so I don't know who the judges are or how the scoring works, but if this is what happens to you, nobody's going to want to be a judge anymore.
Even if an act isn't funny, people will feel too pressured to give it a 1.

    Re: #25
The revival-round entrants are the ones who placed 11th-20th in the semifinals.
The judges are lower-ranked semifinalists and higher-ranked quarterfinalists, scoring out of 5.
Nelsons were the only entrants to get a 1, and they lost it.
    26AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:43
It's not that he's making people laugh —

It wasn't funny, so it got a 1 — that's all there is to it. Does he want to perform, and then after the scoring's done, walk everyone through why his bit was actually good?
    31AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:44
The email-address thing is just a parody riff on Soshina's old bit (a comedian known for a similar stunt) — come on, 'kotatsu reporter' (slang for a journalist who writes from the couch without doing real legwork), at least mention that much.

Sponsors should just pull out — this is a contest where something close to organized-crime-style intimidation gets aimed at a judge over a score. Huge image hit. Next year's contest is just going to turn into a shady affair where everyone scores out of fear of payback.

There've been plenty of times you'd think it was just a wrestling angle, but he was genuinely pissed off for real.
The way he reportedly won't appear alongside Shibuya Nagisa just because she made a spot-on criticism of him — that was seriously off-putting.

    Background and Points of Debate

The revival round was a newly introduced format this year, in which comedians who placed 11th through 20th in the semifinals were scored from 1 to 5 by fellow comedians — those who placed highly in the quarterfinals or near the bottom of the semifinals. There’s no floor built into the scoring rules, so giving a 1 isn’t itself against the rules. What split the thread was whether Aoyama’s protest is the kind of parody stunt (echoing comedian Soshina’s signature bit) that amounts to pro-wrestling theater, or something closer to genuine intimidation. Some posts noted that publishing an email address follows a format other comedians have used before as a bit — context that’s easy to miss from the article alone. At the same time, some worry that singling out and pursuing an individual judge could affect how judging is handled going forward, leaving it an open question whether this can simply be brushed off as a joke.

  • Railway YouTuber Saionji’s Agency Apologizes After Staff Tear Down Signed Memorabilia at Takoyaki Shop

On October 21, Travation, the agency representing railway YouTubers Saionji and ZAKI, posted an apology on its official X account titled “An Apology Regarding Inappropriate Conduct by Our Staff.” The agency came under fire after one of its staff members was found to have torn down a celebrity’s signed memorabilia displayed at a takoyaki shop in Osaka, calling the act “extremely rude and malicious” and reportedly handing down severe punishment to the staffer involved. The shop itself also issued an apology that same morning, stating “We consider this to be our own doing and our responsibility,” which split opinion on 5ch over whether the shop had consented to the sign’s removal or whether the staffer had acted on their own.

Background and Key Points of This Story

Railway YouTubers typically start out as solo creators, and even after forming an agency, many such operations keep growing while still run like a casual fan club behind the scenes. Travation appears to be a case where Saionji founded the agency himself, prompting commenters in the thread to suggest that “the executives are just his buddies” and that “the title has outpaced any actual work experience.” The real point of disagreement wasn’t whether tearing down the sign was wrong — that much was taken as a given — but rather how much the shop itself knew about or consented to it. The shop apologized, calling it “our own responsibility,” but there’s also information suggesting the shop was the one who uploaded the video, leaving open both the possibility that the removal was filmed and posted as a simple prank, and the possibility that the agency staffer acted entirely on their own. Based on the article alone, it’s impossible to say whether this rises to the level of legal property damage, and the agency’s apology statement stuck to the vague phrase “inappropriate conduct” without disclosing any specifics of the disciplinary action taken.

  • Hanshin Tigers Batting Coach Hiroki Uemoto to Step Down — Third Departure After Fujimoto and Koyano, as Head Coach Wada Shifts to Roving Coordinator

It was learned on the 21st that Hanshin Tigers batting coach Hiroki Uemoto (40) will step down at the end of this season. He reportedly told the club himself right after the team’s Climax Series elimination was confirmed following the October 17 game against DeNA. This season has already seen coaches Shuji Fujimoto and Eiichi Koyano both decide to leave, making Uemoto the third departure. Head coach Yutaka Wada is also expected to be reassigned to a roving coordinator role, making this an unusually large wave of personnel changes for a team that just won back-to-back league titles. On a 5ch (Geinou/Sports Breaking News+) thread, opinions split over the reasons behind the departures — from doubts about manager Kyuji Fujikawa’s handling of the team and his character, to other factors like a lack of player development.

[Hanshin] Another shockwave! Even batting coach Hiroki Uemoto is leaving… He’d given notice right after the Climax Series elimination on the 17th. The third departure after coaches Fujimoto and Koyano — an unusual shakeup of the position-player coaching staff

It was learned on the 21st that Hanshin’s batting coach Hiroki Uemoto (40) will leave the team at the end of this season. He gave notice to the club after the October 17 game against DeNA, in which the team was eliminated in the final stage of the Climax Series.

Coach Uemoto, who spent his entire 12-year playing career with the Tigers, served as the team’s academy coach and as manager of Tigers Women before taking over as the farm team’s position-player coach in 2024.

He wouldn't give actual baseball instruction, but he'd speak his mind to players, the manager, and coaches on the mental side — scolding and encouraging them. He's got a sense of humor too.
He'd also make a good shield against the 'mass-media trash' (slang for the press).

Fujikawa: 'With this bunch of coaches, we just don't have enough intimidation left for storming out to yell after a hit-by-pitch…'

Background and Key Points of This Topic

What stands out about this round of personnel moves is that Uemoto’s departure wasn’t a firing by the club — he reportedly approached the team himself right after the Climax Series elimination on the 17th. Combined with coaches Fujimoto and Koyano also deciding to leave, and head coach Wada being moved to a roving coordinator role, this adds up to an unusually large staff shakeup for a team that had just won back-to-back league titles. Opinions on the thread split between those blaming manager Kyuji Fujikawa’s handling of the team and his personality, and those who saw it as the result of a thin roster beyond the core players that made proper player development difficult. It’s worth noting that while the original article makes clear the departure was initiated by Uemoto himself, most of the comments focus on pinning responsibility on the manager personally, with only a few pointing to structural issues like the club’s development system or lack of roster depth.

  • OpenAI’s AI Discovers PHP Vulnerability — Warns Similar Finds Will ‘Surge in Coming Months’

On October 21, OpenAI announced that its own AI model had discovered a vulnerability in the open-source language PHP, with a fix released that same day. OpenAI predicts that “similar discoveries will surge in the coming months.” On 5ch, reactions mixed welcoming AI-driven vulnerability discovery with criticism over the chaos caused when information leaked before the fix was ready. Alongside that, plenty of sarcastic calls to ditch internet dependence and go back to fax machines and hanko stamps stood out.

    123AnonymousOct 22, 2026 08:57
    Re: #86
Basically, AI can define and store rules — even on the free tier.
ChatGPT's free version gets pretty sharp once you've fed it a ton of stored rules.
    Gemini, not so much.
The real issue is how you write and store the rules, plus the concept of feedback.
Way too many users have no clue about any of that.
    131AnonymousOct 22, 2026 09:01
    Re: #86
AI can fundamentally define and store rules, and even on the free tier, using it properly can significantly boost the accuracy and consistency of its answers.
But a lot of users don't understand how to create and store rules, or the feedback concept — analyzing what's wrong with an answer and feeding that back in to improve it.
    Problems with the default setup:
Your personal judgment criteria and response rules aren't adequately reflected.
Past corrections and failures aren't systematically accumulated into rules that prevent recurrence.
There's no mechanism to analyze flawed answers and continuously improve them.
Leave your instructions vague, and you get answers that miss the point, unnecessary pushback, and inconsistent formatting.
With complex conditions or multiple interacting rules, since the application conditions and priority aren't sorted out, it's hard to keep answers consistent.
In short, the bigger problem isn't the AI's raw ability itself — it's the lack of accumulated rules and proper operation, meaning its true potential never gets fully drawn out.

It'll go away once humans and computers both stop evolving in every sense lol

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

PHP is a language used widely across web services around the world, so any vulnerability found in it has a huge blast radius. This time, OpenAI disclosed how it found the flaw at the same moment the fix went live, but the thread also raised a separate point — that a fix was reportedly being prepared quietly, meant to be announced only after patching, only for information to leak early and cause confusion. That’s a case of information-management trouble on the developer-community side, distinct from OpenAI’s own announcement; reading the two together without separating them risks the misunderstanding that OpenAI’s announcement itself caused the chaos. The discussion split along two lines: whether to view AI-driven vulnerability discovery positively, versus jumping to claims that “human engineers are becoming unnecessary” — with the latter being something of a tangent from the main topic. The punchline about returning to fax machines and hanko stamps is best read not as an actual proposed countermeasure, but as sarcasm aimed at the risks of internet dependence.

  • Struggling Angels Fire Manager Suzuki After Just One Year — Their 6th Skipper in 9 Years

The Los Angeles Angels announced on the 21st (Oct. 22 Japan time) that they will not renew manager Kurt Suzuki’s (43) contract for next season, effectively firing him. The team hasn’t reached the postseason since winning the division in 2014, and this year posted a franchise-worst 100 losses — reportedly the furthest any of MLB’s 30 teams currently is from playoff contention. Suzuki, who is from Hawaii and has Japanese grandparents, retired as a player in 2022, became an assistant GM in 2023, and took over as manager in 2025. The thread mixes criticism of a franchise culture where “changing managers won’t fix anything” with speculation about who comes next, and the discussion spills over into the struggles of Shohei Ohtani and Yusei Kikuchi.

The Angels announced on the 21st (Oct. 22 Japan time) that they have fired manager Kurt Suzuki (43) and will not offer him a contract for next season.

The Angels have missed the postseason for 12 straight years since winning the division and advancing to the Division Series in 2014, and this season they suffered a franchise-worst 100 regular-season losses. Of all 30 current MLB teams, they have gone the longest without reaching the playoffs, and the slump shows no sign of ending.

Suzuki, who is from Hawaii and has Japanese grandparents, retired as a player with the Angels in 2022. He became the team’s assistant GM in 2023 and was named manager in 2025. But he was unable to turn around the struggling Angels and was dismissed after just one season. No successor has been named yet. Pitcher Yusei Kikuchi (35) was also on the roster this season, but he missed time with left shoulder inflammation, finishing with 14 appearances, a 1-7 record, and a 4.92 ERA.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

The Angels haven’t reached the postseason since their 2014 Division Series run, and this season’s 100 losses mark a franchise worst — working out to six different managers over the past nine years. Suzuki, who is from Hawaii and has Japanese grandparents, retired in 2022, served as assistant GM, and took over as manager in 2025, but he couldn’t turn the team around. The thread combines criticism of an organizational structure where “a team that can’t win won’t win no matter who’s managing” with speculation about the next hire, and the discussion also spilled over into Shohei Ohtani’s departure and his time with the Dodgers — often cited as a symbol of the Angels’ decline — though it’s easy to overlook that this firing itself has nothing directly to do with the period when Ohtani was on the roster.

Not just PHP — vulnerabilities like this are going to keep showing up.
Cases like this one have practically infinite possible combinations.
In the end what matters most is the quality and quantity of your engineers and whether disclosure is handled in a closed manner, which is why the advice is to use a major global managed service.
Using some Japanese hosting service and building your own environment from scratch is the worst approach.

    Background and Key Points

According to the thread, Kentaro Kawabe stepped down as LINE Yahoo chairman in June 2026 and has since been traveling the country in a camper van, while also holding what amounts to an advisory role in Up-Front Promotion’s management. Opinions in the thread split over how to judge PHP as a language itself: some argued “it’s an old, patched-together language, so of course vulnerabilities show up,” while others countered that “a patched version of PHP is actually safe” and “it’s not a problem unless you’re using it for sensitive things like payments.” That said, it’s worth noting that no information beyond Kawabe’s own post was available in the thread about the specific nature or severity of this vulnerability, so the technical debate never goes beyond speculation. Likewise, there’s no confirmation beyond the fact of the redesign itself for why the official site stopped using PHP.

  • Shohei Ohtani to Skip Offseason Surgery — Front Office Chief Friedman: ‘No Plans For That’ — Doctor’s Call Is to Rest the Knee

Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman stated clearly at the season-ending press conference on the 21st (22nd Japan time) that pitcher Shohei Ohtani “has no plans to undergo surgery this offseason.” According to the doctors, the plan instead is to rest his knee. This season, Ohtani was sidelined late in the year by issues with his left knee and right biceps, and in September he landed on the injured list for the first time since joining the team. In the 5ch Geisoku Sokuho+ (celebrity/sports tabloid board) thread, opinions split sharply — some posted images pointing to changes in his physique and griped about his frequent absences from fielding and his string of injuries, while others defended him by comparing his workload to other pitchers.

Dodgers President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman (49) and General Manager Brandon Gomes (42) held a season-ending press conference on the 21st (22nd Japan time) at their home ballpark, Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, where they addressed pitcher Shohei Ohtani (32).

Friedman denied that Ohtani has any plans to have surgery this offseason, saying “there are no such plans.” He added, “The doctors are saying Shohei’s knee needs rest.” This season Ohtani also spent time on the injured list (IL) due to conditioning issues with his left knee and right biceps, among other things. After the season ended, Ohtani himself addressed the possibility of surgery, saying, “At this point I’m still not quite sure, and going forward I want to see how things play out, including whatever solutions come up.” Since moving to MLB, Ohtani has had surgery on his right elbow in 2018, his left knee in 2019, his right elbow again in 2023, and his left shoulder in 2024.

In his third season with the Dodgers, Ohtani took on his full two-way role from opening day for the first time in three years, joining the starting rotation. But conditioning problems with his left knee and right biceps kept him off the mound in the second half, and in September he landed on the injured list (IL) for the first time since joining the team.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Since joining MLB, Ohtani has undergone surgery almost every year — his right elbow in 2018, left knee in 2019, right elbow again in 2023, and left shoulder in 2024. What President Friedman denied this time was “plans for surgery,” not the knee problem itself. In the thread, images showing changes in his physique sparked a wave of speculation about his diet and the toll of playing both ways, but there was also pushback noting that other starters like Glasnow have been injury-prone too, so Ohtani isn’t uniquely fragile. Some posts flatly declared the injury a “lie,” but it’s worth noting that neither the team nor Ohtani himself has said anything disputing the injury itself — their comments have only addressed monitoring his condition and giving it rest.

  • Up-Front: ‘We Hate Juice=Juice Because They Don’t Make Money’ — Fans Fire Back: ‘Juice=Juice Evolved Into Hello! Project’s Only Cash Cow’

On 5channel’s Hello! Project board, a heated debate broke out over whether the agency (Up-Front) has been giving Juice=Juice the cold shoulder. It started with a post claiming “Up-Front hates Juice=Juice,” which drew a wave of rebuttals pointing to the group’s experiments with new music-video production techniques and their track record of becoming a genuinely profitable group amid surging popularity. Others countered that ANGERME has been the agency’s favorite for years, while the thread also veered into the generational divide between newly minted fans and longtime veterans, plus predictions about how the pecking order between groups will shift next year — scattering the discussion in several directions with no consensus in sight.

It was heading for #1, so they made it an EP specifically to kill the momentum.

Background and key points of this debate

Hello! Project is the roster of female idol groups under the Up-Front Group umbrella, and both Juice=Juice and ANGERME belong to it. What split the thread was a gut-level disagreement over which group the agency actually favors: one side pointed to the MV’s new production techniques and the EP release format as evidence Juice=Juice was being shortchanged, while the other argued that fan club membership fees — not flashy exposure — are the real backbone of the agency’s revenue, so visibility alone doesn’t tell the whole story. On top of that, a generational divide between recently joined fans and longtime veterans became a recurring undercurrent, with both sides quietly using different definitions of what counts as the group ‘making money’ — easy to miss if you only skim the replies. The fact that next year marks Morning Musume’s 30th anniversary, and the year after marks Hello! Project’s 30th anniversary overall, is also part of why the debate over next year’s pecking order got so heated.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5channel (Hello! Project board) thread “Up-Front: ‘I hate Juice=Juice because they don’t make money’ / Juice=Juice: ‘We’ve evolved into Hello! Project’s only cash cow!’ / Agency: ‘…I hate what I hate’.”

  • EA’s BioWare to Shut Down After String of Flops — 5ch: “It Was Already Over by Anthem”

It has come to light that BioWare, the EA-owned game studio, is shutting down. “Anthem,” released in 2019, was plagued by bugs and poor reviews from the start, and this year’s latest release, “Dragon Age: The Veilguard,” also ended up a commercial flop. Since this is a storied studio that built its reputation on the “Baldur’s Gate” series and the “Mass Effect” trilogy, reactions on 5ch’s Hardware/Industry board (known as “Geha”) were a mix of shock and “well, of course.” In the thread, some pinned the blame on EA’s cost-cutting and forced engine unification, while others pointed to the content of the studio’s recent games themselves.

Ending up under a trash publisher really is miserable

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

BioWare, founded in 1998 and known for “Baldur’s Gate” 1 & 2 and the “Mass Effect” trilogy, came under EA’s umbrella in 2007. “Baldur’s Gate 3,” which came up repeatedly in the thread, was actually developed by Larian Studios, a separate company that took over the franchise’s license — not BioWare — a correction several posters made themselves. “Anthem” reportedly struggled during development and continued to suffer from bugs after launch, and was ultimately shelved after EA floated a major overhaul plan that never came to fruition. EA has said the most recent release, “Dragon Age: The Veilguard,” also fell short of its internal sales targets, and this closure follows on from that. In the thread, some blame EA’s forced engine unification and cost-cutting, while others point to the content of the recent games themselves — it’s worth noting that the exact cause of the closure has not been pinned down as one or the other.

  • Why Calculators Still Sell in the Age of AI and Smartphones — Premium Model Sold Out in Six Weeks

Even now, when it’s normal to calculate on a smartphone and use Excel or generative AI at work, Casio’s worldwide calculator shipments have stayed roughly flat over the past five years. A premium calculator the company released this April for ¥99,000 (tax included) sold out its domestic stock in about six weeks. On 5ch’s News Express+ board, this article sparked a wave of comments on “why calculators still sell today,” with posters divided over the different calculation logic used by smartphones versus calculators, and over how calculators, abacuses, and scientific calculators each still have their place.

Everyday math on your smartphone, Excel or generative AI at work—

With digital devices everywhere these days, it’s easy to assume the single-purpose “calculator” is nearing the end of its usefulness. And yet at industry leader Casio, worldwide shipment volumes haven’t dropped significantly at all over the past five years.

In fact, an unusually high-end calculator the company launched this April at ¥99,000 (tax included) sold out its domestic allotment in about six weeks. At a time when high-performance devices are within everyone’s reach, why do calculators keep selling? We asked a Casio representative.

As you can tell from how a smartphone calculator displays the whole expression you typed at the top
it evaluates the entire formula at once

A calculator, on the other hand, computes each number and symbol sequentially as you enter them

    A dedicated device is fast.
    182AnonymousOct 21, 2026 19:25
    Re: #170
That's exactly the point — do you even need speed for this kind of calculation?
What are you even calculating in the first place?

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Standard calculators use an “immediate execution” method that computes each symbol as it’s entered, while smartphone calculator apps are designed to parse the entire expression and respect operator precedence (processing multiplication and division first). The “3+5×10” example that came up in the thread — 80 on a calculator versus 53 on a smartphone — comes down to this difference; neither one is malfunctioning. This calculator behavior has historical roots in matching the entry-order calculations used at cash registers and in bookkeeping, giving it a practical use distinct from scientific calculators or Excel. The thread split between the view that “dedicated devices are unnecessary in the age of AI and smartphones” and the view that “calculators offer a usability accounting work can’t get anywhere else,” with a side debate also breaking out over the merits of learning the abacus.
