  • Eel Origin Fraud Exposed — Terakado Jimon’s Rave Review Video Draws Attention

A Kyoto eel restaurant was found to have passed off Chinese-farmed eel as Japanese-grown, and attention has turned to a YouTube video in which celebrity gourmet Terakado Jimon visited the shop and raved about the food. According to the article, only 2% of the eel the shop purchased over the course of a year was actually domestic, fueling speculation on the thread that Jimon may have been served a specially prepared domestic portion. Opinions were split on whether there’s really a taste difference between domestic and Chinese eel at all, with some arguing the gap between wild-caught and farmed eel matters more — and posters also brought up past cases like the clam origin-mislabeling scandal.

A Kyoto eel shop was selling domestic eel while falsely labeling it as Chinese-sourced.
It's come out that Jimon visited the shop in his own YouTube video and raved about it.
    2AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:39
Obviously they must've served Jimon the real domestic stuff.
    4AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:41
If you actually looked into it, I bet there are tons of cases like this.
    7AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:42
It's still eel either way — no way there's a huge difference in taste.
    8fusianasanOct 22, 2026 15:43
The perception is that domestic tastes better.
What would you think if every country in the world did the same thing [i.e., insisted its own product is superior]?
    9fusianasanOct 22, 2026 15:43
Isn't it the same everywhere — people in every country think their own domestic stuff is better?
    10fusianasanOct 22, 2026 15:44
If shops all over Japan are calling Chinese eel 'domestic,' there's no way to really tell the difference to begin with.
    11AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:44
Ms. Inoue Haru, who grew up on wild Kyoto eel, eats farmed eel from Lake Hamana.
    12AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:44
If anything, Chinese eel tends to be softer.
    13fusianasanOct 22, 2026 15:44
Didn't people used to say wild-caught was better than farmed?
    14AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:45
The clam origin-mislabeling scandal went undetected for years too — that's just how it goes.
    15AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:46
There's plenty of good Chinese eel out there too.
    16AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:47
My impression is Chinese eel is tougher —
    it was like rubber.
    17AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:49
They come from the deep sea near the Philippines on their way to Japan and China, right?
Does where they're actually caught make a taste difference?
    19AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:50
    Re: #17
I've eaten a ton of both wild and farmed eel —
    location matters some, sure, but
with wild eel there's huge variation from one fish to the next.
    18AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:50
That video was a paid promo [案件, ad-sponsored content] —
he took money from the eel shop.
But Jimon didn't know any of this,
    he's a victim too.
    20AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:51
The article says only 2% of the eel
they bought over the year was domestic,
so they probably fed Terakado Jimon the domestic stuff.

They started using Chinese eel right after Jimon's survey video —
they knew exactly what they were doing.

Wild eel isn't consistent, so I think it only tastes good if the cook is really skilled.
I once had wild eel at Akabanebashi No◯Iwa [restaurant name partially redacted] and it was dry and mediocre — maybe they rendered out too much fat.

    31AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:58
People who do that for a living [tell origin apart by taste] definitely exist —
there have been cases where someone said 'something feels off about this one,'
and it turned out they were actually right.
    34AnonymousOct 22, 2026 15:59
If they were mislabeling domestic as Chinese, that'd actually be good news for customers —
domestic is considered a cut above Chinese and costs roughly double,
so that'd be far more decent than the sleazy move of passing off Chinese as domestic.

    Re: #53
You can catch it in rivers all over the place.

    Background and Key Issues

Eel origin fraud has surfaced repeatedly in recent years, including cases involving sellers falsely invoking premium brand-name sources like Lake Hamana or the Shimanto River. As with the clam origin-mislabeling scandal commenters raised on the thread, this counts as “origin misrepresentation” under Japan’s JAS Act (quality labeling standards) and the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations (Japan’s consumer-labeling law). Because there’s a large price gap between Chinese and domestic eel (commenters agreed domestic runs roughly double the price), mislabeling is treated as a form of fraudulent labeling that deceives customers about what they’re actually paying for. The central question on the thread was whether the eel Terakado Jimon raved about on camera was genuinely domestic, or whether the shop had specially prepared it for filming. If the figures attributed to the article are accurate — that only 2% of the shop’s yearly eel stock was domestic, and that it switched to Chinese eel right after Jimon’s review video — that would strengthen suspicions of a deliberate bait-and-switch between what was served to reviewers versus regular customers. At the same time, plenty of commenters were skeptical that origin alone drives much of a taste difference, pointing instead to the gap between wild-caught and farmed eel, or simple variation between individual fish, as bigger factors. One point worth clarifying: the thread’s consensus was that Jimon himself didn’t orchestrate the fraud — he’s seen as someone the shop used for a promotional appearance, not a knowing participant in the deception.

  • FRIDAY Reports Kensho Ono and M・A・O’s “Birthday Date” — 5ch Reacts

It’s been about a year since voice actors Kensho Ono and Kana Hanazawa divorced. Photo tabloid FRIDAY reported that Ono was spotted on a "birthday date" with junior voice actress M・A・O, the two enjoying a Marvel movie and shabu-shabu together, suggesting their relationship may have started even before the divorce. On 5ch, reactions focused less on the affair report itself and more on "Wait, who is M・A・O?" — sparking a wave of replies citing her roles in Cinderella Girls, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Princess Connect!, and Gokaiger to explain that she’s actually a "skilled, highly in-demand voice actress." The gap in name recognition — Ono has 1.6 million social media followers — also became a talking point.

One year since the divorce from Kana Hanazawa.

With a junior colleague he was "close" with even before the split,

he enjoyed a Marvel movie and shabu-shabu to the fullest—

Background and Key Points of This Story

This kind of "secret romance scoop" relies on photos of the two out together and a headline like "secret date" to imply a relationship, but it’s worth noting that neither party has actually confirmed anything. M・A・O is a "chameleon voice actress" who has voiced major characters across a wide range of titles — Ayaka Sagisawa in Cinderella Girls, Shion in Slime, Pecorine in Princess Connect!, Luka in Gokaiger — rather than someone who got famous off one single flagship role. In the thread, comments like "I can’t even picture her signature role" appeared right alongside praise for her as a "prolific actress who’s in everything," and this mismatch between name recognition and actual career track record was what split opinions. Notably, Kana Hanazawa’s divorce itself wasn’t the thread’s main focus — comments touching on how her entertainment career has changed since the divorce stood out more.

  • Grumbling Grows Over Stagnant Index Funds on 5ch: “They Say Good Investing Is Boring, But…”

An investing thread went up on 5ch’s “Whatever’s Live G” board. It kicked off when the OP complained that world-stock index funds like eMAXIS Slim All Country (“Orukan”) had spent the past several months just bouncing up and down without any real gains, griping that it was “mind-numbingly boring.” Replies poured in: some said it still beat a savings account or Japanese government bonds, others pointed to people who’d lost big on individual stocks or Chinese-equity funds and argued “boring is better.” Meanwhile the OP kept admitting they couldn’t stop checking the daily price swings. The debate also touched on past downturns that eventually recovered after dozens of months, as well as worries about Japan’s shrinking population down the line — leaving the thread split over how to read a short-term stall.

Do your playing around with points-based investing (using reward points instead of real cash) and HODL the actual index funds.

    Background and Points of Debate

Index investing is a strategy built around steadily contributing without trying to read the market, which assumes you won’t sweat short-term price swings. But as new NISA (Japan’s tax-free investment program) has pulled in more individual investors, threads like this one — full of people anxious about day-to-day price moves — have become more common. What split this thread was how to judge a stall lasting several months. On one side, posts like #22 (not included here) and #44 take the long view, pointing out that there have been downturns lasting dozens of months before, but the market always recovered eventually. On the other, the concern in #89 that Japan’s shrinking population is a structural reason the market might never recover. Both are predictions about the future that can’t be ruled out, and the thread itself never settled the question. Meanwhile, the argument from #13 and #8 that “whether it’s boring or not has nothing to do with whether it builds wealth” holds up as a sound investing principle — but as shown by #27’s Chinese-stock mutual fund crash, straying into individual stocks can turn a situation from merely “boring” into something far worse.

  • TBS Sets All-Time Longest Broadcast Record: 83.93 Million Total Viewers, Japan-Korea Soccer Final Tops Ratings

TBS announced that its coverage of the “Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya,” broadcast from September 16 to October 4, drew a cumulative total of over 83.93 million viewers across the tournament — with terrestrial broadcast time exceeding 110 hours, making it the longest sports broadcast in the network’s history. The highest per-minute rating came during the men’s soccer final between Japan and South Korea. On 5ch, the news split commenters between those hailing it as “proof of soccer’s popularity” and those demanding to know “what about baseball’s ratings?” — reigniting the usual soccer-vs-baseball popularity debate.

The 'Ragzus Asia Professional Baseball Championship 2026' is an international baseball tournament aimed at developing young players and giving them international experience within the Asia region.
It will be held November 12–15, 2026 at Tokyo Dome, sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC). Key features are as follows.

    1. Participating countries/regions (4 teams)
Japan (Samurai Japan), South Korea, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), and Australia — four countries will compete.

    2. Eligibility (youth-focused rosters)
To give players international experience, the following age/career restrictions generally apply:
    • Young players aged 24 or under, or in their first 3 years as pros
    • Over-age slots (OA slots): up to 3 players aged 29 or under may be used

Baseball only ever pulls numbers when the trash media (a dig combining "mass media" and "garbage") shoves Ohtani, NPB, or Koshien down everyone's throat.
If the media ever stopped pushing it, baseball itself would lose its numbers entirely.

    WBC 2023 viewer breakdown

First, Gen Z (25 and under): slightly trending up, but still under 10% either way. Seems like very few people in this generation care about baseball.

The core demographic (13–49) isn't high either. It ticks up slightly, but it's still more than 5% below the overall population average.

Age-wise, it's the middle-aged and elderly keeping this sport's popularity afloat. The 50s–60s bracket runs 7–8% above the overall average. And for the 70-and-up crowd, it's nearly double the overall average. Baseball really is a sport propped up by senior citizens.

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The figure “83.93 million” is the cumulative viewership across the entire tournament — a different metric from individual program rating rankings, and it’s easy to conflate the two. Also worth noting: each country’s baseball squad at the Asian Games was largely made up of amateur and corporate-league players rather than top pros, so comparing its ratings directly against a national-team soccer match isn’t quite apples to apples. In the thread, reactions split between those treating the result as “proof of soccer’s popularity” and those pushing back that “it’s an unfair comparison that shortchanges baseball” — underneath it all is the long-running debate over the aging audience and declining youth interest in Japan’s domestic pro baseball league.

Insults aside, venting without expecting a reply seems fine though?
    I mean, it's just a tweet

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

It’s hardly unusual for celebrities to publicly “declare” they’re taking a break from X (formerly Twitter), and the thread even brought up the old anecdote of Shintaro Katsu announcing at a press conference that he’d quit smoking, only to light up a cigarette right there — reinforcing the rule of thumb that “the more loudly someone declares it, the sooner they come back.” The real point of debate was why she’d bother announcing it publicly at all instead of just quietly deleting the account if she truly wanted to quit. Some read it as an implicit notice to her fans, while others argued that realistically giving up X altogether is tough when your job is in entertainment. Yamanouchi’s post never specifies whether “not looking anymore” means she’ll stop posting or stop browsing, so there’s no way to tell from the text alone just how far she intends to go.

  • Old Services Shutting Down One After Another as PHP Patches Can’t Keep Up With Vulnerabilities

A thread on 5ch’s “Live News G” board tackled the topic of services running on outdated, no-longer-supported versions of PHP being forced to shut down because they can no longer handle emerging vulnerabilities. Patches are only released for the latest version, and posters noted that migrating comes with its own headaches — a shortage of people who understand the original specs and steep labor costs. The thread saw a clash between the optimistic take that “AI makes rewriting a breeze” and the counterargument that “AI doesn’t cut down on the cost of testing and implementation,” with the discussion heating up further once Abe Hiroshi’s famous homepage got dragged into it.

    Re: #109
These days it's mostly Node.js that gets picked

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Once a given PHP version’s official support period ends, security patches stop coming, and continuing to run on a vulnerable version puts a server directly at risk of being hijacked and turned into a launchpad for further attacks. The longer a service has stuck with an old version, the more a migration demands tracking down people who understood the original specs and carrying out a large-scale rewrite — and the resulting labor costs often become a real barrier to keeping the service alive. The thread saw the optimistic view that “AI makes rewriting easy,” but since AI doesn’t actually reduce the work of testing and implementation, the prevailing opinion was that small and mid-sized services not worth the expense get cut first. Abe Hiroshi’s homepage is famous for the speed of its plain static HTML, but some pointed out that the server behind it actually runs on PHP — a reminder that appearances alone don’t tell you whether something is secure.

  • Why ‘The Emblem of Roto’ Gets No Respect While ‘Dai’s Great Adventure’ Gets All the Love — 5ch Thread: ‘The Gnon Fight Was the Peak’

A thread on 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board took off after a poster pointed out that the Dragon Quest manga ‘The Emblem of Roto’ gets far less love than ‘Dai’s Great Adventure.’ Both are spin-off manga based on the Dragon Quest games, but posters argued that Roto’s story peaks with the fight against the Beast King Gnon and only gets darker from there, while also pointing to the lack of a signature finishing move and weaker technique names compared to Dai. Some noted that series creator Yuji Horii is actually a big fan of ‘The Emblem of Roto,’ which only fueled the debate over why the two works are received so differently.

    1AnonymousOct 22, 2026 12:23
Emblem of Roto's actually better though
stuff like the Beast King Gnon fight
    3AnonymousOct 22, 2026 12:24
Lord Imagine's moves are just natural phenomena said out loud as attack names
    6AnonymousOct 22, 2026 12:25
It comes down to which move you'd want imported into the games — Medoroa or Mezoragon
    8AnonymousOct 22, 2026 12:26
The Gnon fight was the peak and it's downhill from there
Dai stayed hype all the way to the finale

Jagan's fighting style was super aggressive though, it totally scratched that edgy chuuni itch (chuuni = the overblown "too cool" teenage sensibility)

Dai's Great Adventure also blows off the face of Galdandy's sidekick with Begirama

Background and Key Points of the Debate

‘Dai’s Great Adventure’ got a brand-new TV anime adaptation in 2020, which renewed public attention on the series in recent years. The “favoritism” pointed out in the thread is likely influenced in part by this difference in name recognition from the re-animation, though that point was never raised within the thread itself. ‘The Emblem of Roto,’ on the other hand, has had few major opportunities for a comeback since its original run in the 1990s, and its structure settles into a dark tone from the midpoint onward. Opinions in the thread were split between surface-level comparisons — flashy moves, whether a character has a signature finishing move — and the deeper difference in story structure itself as the real reason for the disparity in treatment, with neither argument fully settling the matter. The detail that creator Yuji Horii is actually fond of ‘The Emblem of Roto’ also remained a factor that resists any simple explanation of how the two works came to be perceived so differently.

  • Shimofuri Myojo’s ‘All Night Nippon’ Pulled for 2nd Week Straight as Seiya’s Illness Drags On, Fans Worried

Nippon Broadcasting System’s “Shimofuri Myojo’s All Night Nippon” announced via its official X account that the late-night broadcast on the 23rd would be cancelled due to Seiya’s poor health — the second consecutive week the show has been pulled. On the forum, while many expressed concern for his health (“That’s a long time, honestly,” “Probably COVID or something”), the fact that the show is built around the duo format also drew plenty of ribbing, like “Can’t Soshina just do it solo?” No specific reason or diagnosis has been disclosed, and posts speculating on the cause remain just that — speculation.

Seiya’s illness drags on: “Shimofuri Myojo’s ANN” pulled for 2nd week running — “Is he seriously okay?” worried posts flood X

Nippon Broadcasting System’s “Shimofuri Myojo’s All Night Nippon” (Fridays, 1am) updated its official X account as of the 22nd.

It announced that the late-night broadcast on the 23rd would be cancelled due to poor health of Shimofuri Myojo’s Seiya (34).

This Yoshimoto lineage — Okamura → Kajiwara → Seiya — they all end up with health problems at some point, huh.

Background and key points of this discussion

“All Night Nippon” is Nippon Broadcasting System’s flagship late-night program, and it’s often hosted by comedy duos as a pair, meaning that if one half is absent, the recording itself becomes hard to pull off. The recurring jab in the thread — “Can’t Soshina just do it solo?” — reflects this structural constraint of the show’s format, not any real doubt about Soshina’s individual ability. The official announcement only cites “poor health” as the reason for the hiatus, so posts floating theories like the flu or exhaustion remain pure speculation. Some commenters also brought up past cases of top Yoshimoto comedians like Takashi Okamura and Yuta Kajiwara falling ill and taking time off, but these are separate past incidents with their own circumstances, and no evidence has been presented linking them directly to Seiya’s current condition.

  • Juice=Juice at 119 Songs vs. Tsubaki Factory’s 114 — Fans Dissect Why the Gap Is Shrinking

Hello! Project’s Juice=Juice (debuted 2013) and Tsubaki Factory (debuted 2017) became a hot topic on 5ch after it emerged that, based on JASRAC-registered song counts, Tsubaki Factory has climbed to 114 songs versus Juice=Juice’s 119 — a gap that’s closing fast. Given the two groups debuted four years apart, posters pulled up comparison data on annual new-song releases since 2022, debating whether Juice=Juice’s release pace has slowed and how Tsubaki Factory, after a past crisis over member departures, ramped up releases as part of a turnaround push. The thread also argued over how the counts were tallied, including whether stage-play recordings should count.

    Re: #18
Even once everyone's health was fine, they were still getting frozen out, so that wasn't even the real issue
    22AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:23
My PC folder that's supposed to have every song
Juice has 115 but Tsubaki only has 74
    Where's the discrepancy coming from?
    23AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:24
    Re: #22
Probably because Juice=Juice's count is padded out with things like 'Juicetory' and different versions of 'Garbi'
    28AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:27
Juice really does have few songs
They're still only at 3 original albums
And even their latest album came out 4.5 years ago
With this little new material, the live shows are bound to get stale
    29AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:28
    Re: #28
Hello! Project is finished if Juice=Juice's stale, repetitive live shows are the most in-demand thing it's got
    30AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:28
Ah, I'm not counting stage-play songs for either Juice or Tsubaki
But would there really be 40 stage-play songs
    Where can I see Tsubaki's 114-song list
I want to check what's missing
    39AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:34
    Re: #30
    I see, thanks
So there really are a lot of stage-play songs
    32AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:29
I don't have any impression of Beyoo putting out singles at all
Is this count inflated by a ton of throwaway stage-play songs?
    33AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:30
    Re: #32
They've done a ridiculous number of stage plays too
And they've put out 3 albums (Juice and Tsubaki have also only done 3 so far)
So landing at roughly the same count as Juice and Tsubaki seems reasonable
    34AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:30
When they were pushing 'Furuppa,' they were putting out a new digital single every month
'Milk' also dropped 4 unit songs over 4 straight months
Up-Front just doesn't have that kind of 'drive'
Always doing things at their own pace
    35AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:31
    Re: #34
Now that they've started streaming, Up-Front probably thinks they can stretch the same release volume thinner with early digital drops
    36AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:32
Hello! Project gives every unit the same CD production budget and the same concert tour budget
How it's allocated is up to each team's staff
Back when Tsubaki was cranking out triple singles one after another, Juice was spending its money on cover-song licensing rights and live musicians for every track
Tsubaki's songs are mostly programmed/sequenced, which keeps costs down overall
    42AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:37
    Re: #36
I only ever hear that Juice=Juice's Yamashita/Takeuchi covers (i.e. Tatsuro Yamashita and Mariya Takeuchi songs) have weak production

Going from 2 releases a year down to just 1 a year now — that's genuinely hilarious
    45AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:39
    Re: #41
This is the first time since the group's formation that Morning Musume has put out only 1 CD in a year
And Juice=Juice not releasing even a single CD in a year is a first for Hello! Project since the Momusu-Berryz-S/mileage era (excluding BEYOOOOONDS in 2020, which couldn't release CDs because of COVID)
And which group was getting pushed hard this year while all that was happening? No question, it's Tsubaki Factory
    48AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:44
    Re: #41
There's literally been talk of 'my favorite only gets 1 a year while that group gets pushed with 2'
Things are pretty messed up at this point

Checking my folder of just live-show songs with no stage-play tracks

    Suma Angerme 134
    Juice 115
    Tsubaki 74
    Beyoo 54
    Ocha 31
    Rosy 14

There's no way Juice actually has that many — are you including things like 'Juicetory' or live recordings?
    53AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:47
    Re: #43
Different versions of 'Juicetory' are counted as duplicates, but the only live recording in there is the recent 'Garbi'
    49AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:44
    Graduation singles really are pointless
Slapping the departing member's face on the cover is just such a waste, honestly
It's a format that brings in zero new fans
All it does is let a handful of existing fans wallow in sentimentality
What worked in Juice's favor is that they went almost 3 years without a stretch of back-to-back graduations
So for roughly these last 3 years, they've at least been able to compete
I hope Morning Musume and Tsubaki get through that phase soon too
Angerme's going to be centered on Hashisako's graduation until next spring
    51AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:45
    Re: #49
It's obvious they won't sell even once that phase is over, so graduations are just being used to paper over it
    63AnonymousOct 22, 2026 12:15
Juice has been putting out EPs, so maybe that's standing in for singles?
    66AnonymousOct 22, 2026 12:23

If you'd forgive that happening to your favorite, then it'd be fine for everyone to do it, right?
    67AnonymousOct 22, 2026 12:23
    Re: #63
Fine, but then make an MV for the new song
What's the point of only having an MV for 'Burabare' (a song nickname) when footage already exists for that one?

Background and Key Points of Debate

Song counts are based on JASRAC-registered titles, which include incidental songs from stage plays and different versions of cover tracks, so they don’t line up neatly with a simple count of new song releases. Data cited in the thread on “annual new songs since 2022” put Juice=Juice at 5.2 songs per year versus Tsubaki Factory’s 5.8, showing that Tsubaki — despite debuting four years later — is effectively catching up in raw numbers. Some posters argued that Tsubaki Factory, which reportedly faced a crisis of near-disbandment after a string of past member departures, boosted its output afterward as part of a push to strengthen the group. Meanwhile, several posts claimed Juice=Juice is “being frozen out by management,” but it’s worth noting this isn’t based on any official announcement — it’s fan speculation. It’s also easy to overlook that a difference in song count alone doesn’t settle which group is more popular or better regarded.

  • Tetsu Tamagawa Apologizes for Homeless Remark — 5ch: “Bald and Hairy Guys Are Everywhere”

Former TV Asahi personality Tetsu Tamagawa apologized live on air on October 22 during TV Asahi’s “Hane Shinichi Morning Show,” saying a remark he’d made about homeless people had been inappropriate. Tamagawa has repeatedly stirred controversy with his comments in the past, and this time attention focused less on the remark itself than on how the apology came about. On the 5ch thread, discussion cared less about whether the remark was appropriate and drifted instead into a tangent about the supposed link between homelessness and hair loss, which spiraled into a debate over whether baldness is genetic or a lifestyle issue. Plenty of commenters, not knowing the exact wording of what he apologized for, said “it’s not even clear what he’s apologizing for.”

Well, the theory that there are no bald homeless people is one thing, but that's not actually what Tamagawa said.

    14AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:21

    18AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:21
Hair condition obviously "changes with lifestyle habits" —
that's common sense if you ask any woman.

It's just that actual baldness is something you can't do anything about, that's all.
    19AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:21
So the bald guys who got branded "lower than the homeless" just turned red in the face, is that it?
    20AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:22
There's a mountain of other things he should be apologizing for —
if he's going to bow his head over something like this.
    22AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:22
Bald guys and guys with full hair are everywhere, so there was no need to drag homeless people into it.
    23AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:22
Washing your hair every day with shampoo actually damages it.
    26AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:23
Even Hieda no Are — the legendary figure credited with reciting Japan's oldest chronicle, the Kojiki — would just be sputtering "Hieee~!" and "Areee~!" in confusion at this one (a pun on his name). Even the Kojiki's compiler is stumped.
    27AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:23
Baldness being genetic is a given, but poor blood circulation also seems like a likely factor —
people who do full-body exercise tend to go bald less.

A rare case of a bald guy getting forced to apologize for telling the truth lol
    32AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:25
Not sure if it was "dirty lifestyle" that was the problem, or "even abroad," or maybe "barely ever washing their hair."
    33AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:26
    Wow, incredible lol
If a politician said something like this they'd be hounded into resigning,
but His Highness Tamagawa, member of the privileged class, just apologizes and it's over.
    34AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:26
Wasn't baldness supposed to be most influenced by your maternal grandfather? I feel like it used to be the paternal grandfather in these theories — this kind of "science" just flips overnight, huh.
    36AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:27
A proper old-school gaffe, rare these days lol
Your true feelings just slip right out like that.

    39AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:28
    I will never forgive this!
I've got a full head of hair, but this is absolutely unforgivable!
I've got so much hair it's practically a problem, but even I say this is totally not okay!

    41AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:28
Tamagawa's bald himself, so he probably couldn't help getting worked up over the baldness topic — cut him some slack lol
    44AnonymousOct 22, 2026 11:29
I think it was inappropriate, but
you guys only accept it when it happens to match your own mood, huh.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Tetsu Tamagawa is a former TV Asahi employee who has continued to appear as a freelance commentator on the network’s news programs even after leaving the company. He’s stirred controversy with his remarks before, and the thread included comments calling him someone with “a mile-long rap sheet.” This time, his remark appears to have touched on a long-circulating folk belief that homeless people are less prone to hair loss because they rarely wash their hair. The truth of that belief itself is unclear, and the thread also saw pushback, with some pointing out that plenty of homeless people are bald in reality. Opinion split mainly over whether the remark warranted an apology at all, with some saying “there was no need to bring up homeless people” and others saying “it’s not even clear what he apologized for.” The exact wording of the remark that prompted the apology was only shown on the program itself and can’t be pinned down from what’s in the thread.
