  • Naoya Inoue Confirms Featherweight Challenge — Declares It to Fans at First-Ever Special Exhibition

Naoya Inoue (Ohashi Boxing Gym) appeared at the preview of his first-ever special exhibition, “THE DAY,” in Kitaaoyama, Tokyo on the 22nd, and at a fan event limited to 150 people declared, “I want to take on the featherweight challenge together with all of you.” The exhibition looks back on the Junto Nakatani fight, which drew 55,000 fans to the Tokyo Dome on May 2 this year, displaying items like the gown he wore that day and his four unified championship belts. On 5ch’s Geinou/Sports Breaking News+ board, some speculated that Inoue’s camp might avoid featherweight champion Espinoza as a move-up opponent in favor of Leo or Carrington instead, sparking a split reaction over the maneuvering around the size difference and purse negotiations.

The first-ever special exhibition of professional boxing’s undisputed world super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue (Ohashi), “Naoya Inoue THE DAY Exhibition — What Did You Witness That Day?,” opened on the 22nd in Kitaaoyama, Tokyo (World Kitaaoyama Building 1F Exhibition Space, 3-5-10 Kitaaoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo).

The special exhibition looks back on the historic bout against challenger Junto Nakatani (M.T) at the Tokyo Dome on May 2 this year — witnessed by a Japanese-record crowd of 55,000 — through displays including the gown Inoue wore that day and his four actual championship belts. On show are items sure to make any boxing fan drool, including the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF belts he defended by beating Nakatani on a 3-0 decision, as well as THE RING magazine’s belt recognizing him as the “strongest champion.” The pre-fight press conference venue was recreated, with panels detailing the course of the 12-round fight, and numerous previously unreleased photos from the locker room were also unveiled.

Inoue himself attended the preview held before the public opening, remarking, “It turned out even better than I expected. I hope everyone who comes will enjoy it.” At the 150-person fan event, held at his own request, there was also a Q&A session with fans. Asked how wary he’d been of Nakatani, he said, “Top-level. His height, reach, southpaw stance, and depth — he was top-level among all 33 of my past fights.” When asked what type of opponent could be his natural enemy, he gently deflected: “If any fighter saw this and thought it was a weakness, that would be giving away a trade secret, so I’ll keep that to myself.”

    Re: #4
    Strong.
His reach is absurdly long, he throws a ton of punches, and his stamina's bottomless.
Honestly even Inoue would have a hard time, but if Inoue overcomes that handicap and knocks out Espinoza, he'll have surpassed Pacquiao.
    76AnonymousOct 22, 2026 19:14
    Re: #4
He's strong, specialized in hunting down smaller guys.
Maybe because of the size gap, his defense is loose and he eats a lot of shots too.
But it might be tough with Inoue's punches, since he can't even finish guys off cleanly at super bantamweight anymore.

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Super bantamweight, Inoue’s current unified division, has — by his own admission — become a weight class where it’s hard to find opponents. Featherweight, meanwhile, hasn’t produced a notable Japanese champion since Takahiro Aou, and the current champion, Espinoza, stands 185cm with a 188cm reach, a huge size gap compared to Inoue. What split opinion in the thread was how to judge the speculation that Inoue’s camp might avoid this “final boss” Espinoza in favor of Leo or Carrington — some saw it as “cheap,” while others treated it as par for the course in purse and matchmaking negotiations. There was also pushback against the premise that “featherweight isn’t popular,” with some pointing out it’s actually a division that has produced plenty of Japanese world champions — a reminder that general impressions of the lighter weight classes can diverge from reality. Given that this move-up announcement comes right after the Nakatani fight (which drew 55,000 fans), the choice of his next opponent will shape his unified-champion strategy going forward.

  • Guess the Movie in Three Words — 5ch’s Weirdest Answer: ‘Almost All the Main Characters Are Bald’

A classic game thread popped up on 5ch’s News Speed VIP board: one poster drops just three words, and everyone else has to guess the movie title from those alone. Famous titles like Apocalypse Now, Pulp Fiction, and Interstellar were guessed almost instantly, but the clue “10 billion yen, helicopter, live TV broadcast” produced a string of wrong guesses — The Man Who Stole the Sun, Bullet Train Bomb — before the real answer turned out to be the Japanese film Dai-Yukai (The Great Kidnapping). For the Fast & Furious clue, one joke answer noted that “almost all the main characters are bald,” turning the thread into more of an obscure-trivia test than a test of movie fame.

    Apocalypse Now

    Background and Talking Points

In this classic “guess the movie from three words” game thread, the real draw was the rapid-fire back-and-forth between clue-givers and guessers. Word choices ranged from straightforward (Wagner, helicopter, jungle → Apocalypse Now) to deliberately misleading combos mixed with a joke word (car, bald guy, Corona beer → Fast & Furious, riffing on how bald several of the main cast are), testing just how deep the repliers’ movie knowledge really went. The thread’s biggest split came over the clue “10 billion yen, helicopter, live TV broadcast”: guesses piled up with big-name Japanese crime thrillers like The Man Who Stole the Sun and a film about a 500-million-yen heist, but the actual answer was the understated family drama Dai-Yukai (The Great Kidnapping). The thread’s energy came less from blockbuster name recognition than from whether anyone could nail the more obscure Japanese and Western titles. Note that “Japanese devil” only appears as a word tied to one specific clue (ten-man kumite / “Japanese devil” / wooden dummy) referencing a film’s content, not as a slur directed at any real person or group.

  • Hospital Staffer Filmed Patients and Posted to Social Media — Saiseikai Yahata Hospital Apologizes; 5ch: ‘Filming Everything Is Just Creepy’

It has emerged that a staff member on night duty at Saiseikai Yahata General Hospital in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, filmed an inpatient and posted the footage on social media. The video showed the patient crawling on the floor, and the hospital has acknowledged the incident and apologized. The Asahi Shimbun reported the story on October 21. On 5ch, many replies expressed strong disgust toward the staff member who filmed it, while others pointed out that crawling on the floor can actually happen as a result of conditions like stroke aftereffects, sparking a debate over the patient’s condition. Posters also brought up a similar case involving a nurse at a hospital in Sapporo, turning social-media ethics in medical settings into a talking point.

Being restrained hand and foot suggests you were probably thrashing around, even if it was just from the medication

Then again, the bit about being laughed at could also have been delirium talking

Background and talking points on this story

Saiseikai is a public medical corporation established following an imperial edict from Emperor Meiji, and as the thread noted, it has deep ties to the imperial family. Medical staff posting patient information on social media is an act that can run afoul of Japan’s Personal Information Protection Act and the confidentiality obligations under the Medical Care Act, and similar cases — such as the one involving a nurse at a hospital in Sapporo — have been reported repeatedly in recent years. In many cases the pattern is the same: content shared under a followers-only setting gets reposted by a third party and that’s how it comes to light, and it’s easy to overlook that once something spreads, it gets treated the same as a public post regardless of whether the original poster meant for it to go public. The thread’s criticism centered mainly on the act of filming itself, but neither the article nor the thread’s replies make clear how well the hospital’s device-management rules and social-media training actually functioned.

*This article is compiled from excerpts and a summary of the 5ch (News Speed+) thread “[Fukuoka] ‘The night shift was way too creepy’ — staff member filmed patient, hospital admits and apologizes; video of patient crawling on floor circulates on social media; Saiseikai Yahata General Hospital, Kitakyushu.”

  • Matsumoto Hitoshi’s “Cancer” Remark Gets a Sharp Comeback from Ken Koba — 5ch: “Written Out, It’s Not Funny At All”

A scene from “Kono Toki.” (This Moment.), the behind-the-scenes documentary for the streaming service DOWNTOWN+, was released as an official YouTube Short and has become a hot topic. While talking about the smoking habits of junior comedians, Matsumoto Hitoshi let slip, “I’ve got cancer, you know,” prompting Kendo Kobayashi to laugh and fire back, “‘Had,’ you mean,” while Kukkii! chimed in with “Isn’t that old news?” — the exchange drew a big reaction. On 5ch’s Geisuto Sokuho+ (celebrity/sports news) thread, some praised how snappy the back-and-forth was, while others pointed out that the humor doesn’t come across in text, and opinion was split on whether joking about cancer is okay.

A scene from “Kono Toki.” (This Moment.), the behind-the-scenes documentary following the streaming service DOWNTOWN+ (Downtown Plus), was released as a short video on the official YouTube channel.

As Downtown’s Matsumoto Hitoshi talked about the smoking habits of junior comedians, his light-hearted exchange with TV personality Kendo Kobayashi and Yasei Bakudan’s Kukkii! struck a chord online.

It happened before the August 15 live stream of “OIU (Owarai Teikoku University),” while Matsumoto was chatting casually with Kendo Kobayashi and Kukkii!.

Honestly, Matsu-chan's lines aren't even that funny when you transcribe them.
He just multiplies the humor several times over with his tone of voice, timing, and facial expressions.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

The recurring question in the thread — whether Matsumoto’s cancer is “old news” — actually has a medical benchmark behind it. In cancer treatment, it’s commonly held that if there’s no recurrence within five years after surgery, the case is considered “cured”; Matsumoto Hitoshi’s case is still in that observation period. As one commenter in the thread pointed out, “if it recurs, the survival rate drops to just a few percent” — so there’s a gap between the casual phrase “old news” and the reality that the long-term outcome isn’t settled yet. Another point of debate was the link between smoking and lung cancer: lung cancer comes in several different types, and as some commenters noted, smoking is only responsible for a portion of them. In the end, the thread’s reactions split over how to reconcile joking about smoking with the seriousness of cancer itself.

*This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geisuto Sokuho+) thread “Matsumoto Hitoshi: “When I get juniors together at karaoke boxes, they all smoke” / “I’ve got cancer, you know!” — Kendo Kobayashi’s “sharp comeback” draws reaction.”

  • New Fan’s Shock at Juice=Juice’s 85-Theater Live Viewing Goes Viral

Juice=Juice’s Pia Arena concert live viewing was confirmed for 85 theaters, sparking buzz on the 5ch Hello! Project board. Since even recent graduation-concert-level broadcasts usually topped out in the 70s, a newcomer fan’s astonished post — “Wait, is something incredibly huge happening!?” — set off a wave of reactions about the sheer scale and the sales method. Tickets aren’t first-come-first-served but a lottery pre-order, with applications opening October 24, 2026. The thread split between people laughing in disbelief at the numbers, others calmly noting it’s “not that different from a no-graduation Budokan show,” and more disagreement over the lottery system itself.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Hello! Project’s live viewings let fans watch the main concert via live broadcast in movie theaters, with tickets sold theater by theater. As the table in post 5 shows, the usual recent count hovers around 80 theaters, and Juice=Juice’s 85 theaters matches the scale of past graduation-concert-level events. The thread split over how to read the high theater count: posts like 13 and 34 reacted with surprise — “way too many, this’ll make bank,” “and it’s not even a graduation concert” — while others calmly countered that it’s “not that different from a no-graduation Budokan show.” The other sticking point was the sales method: posts 25, 27, and 33 objected that “a lottery is weird” and “you don’t see that for a normal concert,” but as post 29 points out, past graduation-concert live viewings have also used a pre-order lottery system before, so this isn’t actually unprecedented. The rise and fall in theater counts is also tied to the pattern where fans rejected in the venue’s own ticket lottery flow over to the live viewing instead (post 56), meaning the theater count alone can be a misleading popularity gauge.

  • Giants’ First-Round Pick on Star High School Pitcher Sparks ‘Secret Deal?’ Buzz on 5ch

On 5ch’s “Nandemo Jikkyo G” board, reactions blew up over the possibility that the Yomiuri Giants might use their first-round pick on star high school pitcher Oda. Oda is widely believed to be eyeing a direct route to MLB, following in the footsteps of Roki Sasaki and Shohei Ohtani, so speculation flew across the thread that if the Giants really do draft him, there must be some kind of “secret deal” already in place. At the same time, more level-headed voices pushed back, asking “is he really worth a secret deal?” and noting “if he turns the Giants down, it’s the scouts who’ll take the heat” — so opinions in the thread were split.

Background and key points of this discussion

The baseball world has seen “secret deal” controversies around Giants draft picks flare up repeatedly, and the thread brought up the case of Shigeru Kuwata from PL Gakuen as a past example. At the same time, the view that a team with no history of forcing picks is more likely to be suspected drew pushback too, with several commenters dismissing it as “just nitpicking” — so this isn’t something that can be stated as settled fact. Whether Oda himself truly intends to go straight to the majors, and how he’ll respond to the Giants’ courtship, remained unconfirmed at the time of the thread — and it’s worth noting that even the new manager situation (speculation about Hideki Matsui taking the post) hadn’t been finalized either. It’s also worth remembering that “secret deal” talk is a recurring staple of draft-season speculation rather than a definitive accusation against any specific team or individual — closer to a guessing game among fans than a factual claim.

  • Horiemon Gripes About Drama Streaming: “Why Won’t You Let Me Binge It All at Once?”

Entrepreneur Takafumi Horie heaped praise on the TBS drama “Until the T-Shirt Dries” on his TOKYO FM radio show, while venting frustration that streaming platforms “only release episodes to match the original broadcast schedule.” He appeared to be referring to how older shows get rolled out episode-by-episode on services like TVer. On 5ch’s entertainment/sports news board, many posters questioned the complaint itself, with comments like “just subscribe to a streaming service” and “demanding a same-day binge release for a show that’s still airing makes no sense,” while others agreed that “the staggered rollout of older dramas really is annoying” — opinion was split.

    Thu, Oct 22, 2:36 PM

Entrepreneur Takafumi Horie (53) appeared on TOKYO FM’s late-night program “TOKYO SPEAKEASY” (airing Mon-Thu at 1:00 AM), broadcast in the small hours of the 21st, where he talked about something that “really irritates” him about how TV dramas get streamed.

That day’s guest was Gentosha president Toru Kenjo. Horie opened with, “There’s a drama I watched recently that was amazing,” going on to rave about the TBS drama “Until the T-Shirt Dries,” which wrapped up its final episode last month, and recommended it to Kenjo as well.

    That's just how dramas work
it'd be crazy to demand that an ongoing manga serialization let you read all the way to the end right now

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

It’s not uncommon for streaming services to release episodes “in step with the original broadcast schedule” rather than all at once; for catch-up services like TVer, this is reportedly tied to copyright considerations, tie-ins with the original broadcast, and a desire to keep viewers coming back. On subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services like Netflix, by contrast, dropping an entire season at once is the norm — and this is apparently the contrast Horie was drawing. The thread was split between posters questioning Horie’s complaint itself (“just pay for a subscription,” “demanding a same-day binge release for a still-airing show makes no sense”) and others who sympathized, agreeing that “the staggered release of older shows really is inconvenient.” Note: a number of comments unrelated to the topic, amounting to personal attacks, were mixed into the original thread; those have been excluded from this article.

  • Even 10-Billion-Stream YOASOBI Can’t Fill Sapporo Dome — Singer Ikuta Lilas Resorts to Street Performance to Drum Up Ticket Sales

YOASOBI is known overseas too — they were even invited to a White House state dinner in 2024 — but ticket sales for their November 14-15 Sapporo Dome shows have been sluggish, prompting vocalist Ikuta Lilas to suddenly perform a street live to promote the concert. On 5ch, posters pointed out that Sapporo Dome has always been a venue only a handful of artists like Arashi or Snow Man can fill, and that streaming numbers and live concert turnout are entirely different things. Others cited structural issues beyond ticket sales, such as the cost of shipping equipment across the Tsugaru Strait and the dome’s notoriously poor acoustics.

YOASOBI is a music duo Japan is proud to showcase to the world. In 2024, they were even invited to a state dinner hosted by then-President Biden at the White House, making them an iconic symbol of J-pop recognized overseas as well.

However, even though they’re riding high at the top of the charts both domestically and internationally, it seems they’re struggling to draw crowds for their live shows. News that vocalist Ikuta Lilas suddenly held a street performance to promote tickets for their Sapporo Dome concerts on November 14 and 15 has been met with surprise.

Honestly, the cost of crossing the Tsugaru Strait is just absurd. Just hauling equipment over from Honshu by large truck is enough to go bankrupt on ferry fees and travel time alone.
The artist also has to cover airfare and hotels for hundreds of staff.
And yet, if you don't pull in 40,000-50,000 people, you're deep in the red. Hokkaido's population can't support that, and mainland fans won't make the trip either because travel costs are too high.
The load-in/load-out logistics for equipment are so bad that staff nearly die just from the setup alone.
On top of that, the dome's acoustics are garbage — the sound bounces around so much that both artists and fans complain about it.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Sapporo Dome has a huge capacity, and historically only a handful of major acts — Arashi, Snow Man, Mr.Children, Nogizaka46, and the like — have managed to pull off a successful show there; it’s also known as a venue that struggles to draw crowds even for sports events like combat sports promotions. Hokkaido faces structurally high costs for shipping equipment and staff over from Honshu, meaning a show essentially has to draw tens of thousands of people just to break even. There’s also a point that tends to get overlooked: YouTube view counts measure free, casual viewing, which is fundamentally different from live attendance, where fans pay for tickets and travel to show up in person. Opinions in the thread split between “their popularity itself has declined” and “it’s the venue’s size and costs that are the problem,” with some even suspecting the view counts are inflated — leaving how to interpret the gap between streaming numbers and ticket sales as the central point of debate.

  • Eel Origin Fraud Exposed — Terakado Jimon’s Rave Review Video Draws Attention

A Kyoto eel restaurant was found to have passed off Chinese-farmed eel as Japanese-grown, and attention has turned to a YouTube video in which celebrity gourmet Terakado Jimon visited the shop and raved about the food. According to the article, only 2% of the eel the shop purchased over the course of a year was actually domestic, fueling speculation on the thread that Jimon may have been served a specially prepared domestic portion. Opinions were split on whether there’s really a taste difference between domestic and Chinese eel at all, with some arguing the gap between wild-caught and farmed eel matters more — and posters also brought up past cases like the clam origin-mislabeling scandal.

I once had wild eel at Akabanebashi No◯Iwa [restaurant name partially redacted] and it was dry and mediocre — maybe they rendered out too much fat.

I asked at a famous shop once and they told me wild eel is really an enthusiast's thing — ordinary people don't need to be that particular about it.

If they were mislabeling domestic as Chinese, that'd actually be good news for customers —
domestic is considered a cut above Chinese and costs roughly double,
so that'd be far more decent than the sleazy move of passing off Chinese as domestic.

You can catch it in rivers all over the place.

    Background and Key Issues

Eel origin fraud has surfaced repeatedly in recent years, including cases involving sellers falsely invoking premium brand-name sources like Lake Hamana or the Shimanto River. As with the clam origin-mislabeling scandal commenters raised on the thread, this counts as “origin misrepresentation” under Japan’s JAS Act (quality labeling standards) and the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations (Japan’s consumer-labeling law). Because there’s a large price gap between Chinese and domestic eel (commenters agreed domestic runs roughly double the price), mislabeling is treated as a form of fraudulent labeling that deceives customers about what they’re actually paying for. The central question on the thread was whether the eel Terakado Jimon raved about on camera was genuinely domestic, or whether the shop had specially prepared it for filming. If the figures attributed to the article are accurate — that only 2% of the shop’s yearly eel stock was domestic, and that it switched to Chinese eel right after Jimon’s review video — that would strengthen suspicions of a deliberate bait-and-switch between what was served to reviewers versus regular customers. At the same time, plenty of commenters were skeptical that origin alone drives much of a taste difference, pointing instead to the gap between wild-caught and farmed eel, or simple variation between individual fish, as bigger factors. One point worth clarifying: the thread’s consensus was that Jimon himself didn’t orchestrate the fraud — he’s seen as someone the shop used for a promotional appearance, not a knowing participant in the deception.

  • FRIDAY Reports Kensho Ono and M・A・O’s “Birthday Date” — 5ch Reacts

It’s been about a year since voice actors Kensho Ono and Kana Hanazawa divorced. Photo tabloid FRIDAY reported that Ono was spotted on a "birthday date" with junior voice actress M・A・O, the two enjoying a Marvel movie and shabu-shabu together, suggesting their relationship may have started even before the divorce. On 5ch, reactions focused less on the affair report itself and more on "Wait, who is M・A・O?" — sparking a wave of replies citing her roles in Cinderella Girls, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Princess Connect!, and Gokaiger to explain that she’s actually a "skilled, highly in-demand voice actress." The gap in name recognition — Ono has 1.6 million social media followers — also became a talking point.

One year since the divorce from Kana Hanazawa.

With a junior colleague he was "close" with even before the split,

he enjoyed a Marvel movie and shabu-shabu to the fullest—

    MAO's notable roles

    ・Idolmaster Cinderella Girls (Ayaka Sagisawa)
    ・Fire Force (Iris)
    ・Princess Connect! Re:Dive (Pecorine)
    ・Granblue Fantasy (Narmaya)
・Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (Luka Millfy / Gokai Yellow)
・That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Shion)
    ・Space Patrol Luluco (Luluco)
・The Middle-Aged Man Reincarnated as a Villainess (Grace Auvergne)

She's still massively in demand — her 2025 and 2026 credits alone are too many to fit in a single screenshot, dozens of shows every year

Background and Key Points of This Story

This kind of "secret romance scoop" relies on photos of the two out together and a headline like "secret date" to imply a relationship, but it’s worth noting that neither party has actually confirmed anything. M・A・O is a "chameleon voice actress" who has voiced major characters across a wide range of titles — Ayaka Sagisawa in Cinderella Girls, Shion in Slime, Pecorine in Princess Connect!, Luka in Gokaiger — rather than someone who got famous off one single flagship role. In the thread, comments like "I can’t even picture her signature role" appeared right alongside praise for her as a "prolific actress who’s in everything," and this mismatch between name recognition and actual career track record was what split opinions. Notably, Kana Hanazawa’s divorce itself wasn’t the thread’s main focus — comments touching on how her entertainment career has changed since the divorce stood out more.
