  • Juice=Juice Songs: Current Lineup or Original Lineup? Fans Clash Over Which Version to Stream

On 5ch’s Hello! Project board, a debate broke out over which member lineup’s vocal version fans should pick when streaming Juice=Juice songs. Using tracks like “Bitansan” and “C&C” as examples, the thread split between veteran fans who prize recordings from the original-lineup era and newer fans who back the 2023 versions sung by the group’s current members. Posts kept circling back to the question of which approach actually shows more respect for the current lineup, and many argued that the better-fitting vocal version differs from song to song — making it more than a simple old-guard-vs-new-guard spat.

So glad a lot of people are putting together streaming playlists of the fall tour setlist, but throwing in the 2023 versions of Bitansan and C&C… that's seriously just no respect for the original lineup, or something like that… (self-deleting tweet)
    13AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:05
If it's a setlist from the current lineup, isn't the 2023 version actually the better fit?
    14AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:06
For a tour playlist, that's only natural.
    17AnonymousOct 21, 2026 08:07
Isn't the Juice=Juice original lineup Danbara, Inoue, Kudo, and Matsunaga?

The battle between original-lineup diehards and the "glam-pic newbies" (fan slang, roughly "fans drawn in by flashy, filtered photos") will clearly keep raging on…

Same goes for this thread, honestly — at this point the word "respect" itself feels gross and totally beside the point.

The fact that people watch the YouTube live videos more than they stream the songs is because nobody actually cares about the original lineup.
    52AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:40
I always think this, but the real "original members" are the ones who've been there since the start AND are still in the group. Anyone who quit is a former original member — people should really use that distinction correctly.
    53AnonymousOct 21, 2026 09:47

Classic "Mominofu" move, writing a whole article based on pure speculation lol (a site known for clickbait, speculation-driven stories)

Background and Key Points of This Debate

This kind of clash tends to recur in Hello! Project groups that have been active a long time and gone through lineup changes. Because older recordings still contain the parts sung by members who have since left, a gap in sentiment easily opens up between fans who want to hear “today’s Juice=Juice” when streaming songs or listening to tour setlists, and fans who believe the work should be preserved as it originally was, founding members’ voices included. Even within the thread, the scope of the term “original members” kept shifting — some used it to mean only the six members present at formation, others used it more broadly for anyone who was in the group before leaving — and that inconsistency in usage only made the clash easier to see. The mention of a related thread also suggests this isn’t a one-off dispute but a topic that has flared up repeatedly before.

  • Yamasato Ryota Calls Out “Diners Who Keep Chatting After They’re Done Eating” — X Post Sparks Reaction

Ryota Yamasato of the comedy duo Nankai Candies sparked a reaction on X on the 21st with a post reading, “Even with a line of people waiting behind them, the field of vision of someone who keeps chatting long after they’ve finished eating must be pretty dangerous in the animal kingdom.” While many voices agreed with his complaint about diners who keep socializing without regard for the line of people waiting, on 5ch opinions were split, with some users criticizing the wording of the post itself, saying things like “we don’t even know what kind of restaurant this is about” or “the phrasing feels creepy.” The discussion gradually broadened into concrete gripes about nuisance behavior — restaurants struggling with customers who overstay, people using cafes as a substitute office, and tourist manners.

Ryota Yamasato (49) of Nankai Candies updated his X account by the 21st, raising an alarm over something that happened at a restaurant.

There really are idiots who use them like a second office.

That type of person can't pick up on sarcasm or irony, so phrasing it that way won't get through to them at all
They'll just go "lol it's not the animal kingdom though" without ever realizing it's about them
    47AnonymousOct 21, 2026 12:15
Something about the phrasing just feels off/creepy
Just say it plainly: "think about the people waiting in line"

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Since Yamasato’s post didn’t specify the restaurant’s name or type, thread users were divided on how to read it — some assumed “this must be about a fast-food place,” others guessed “a counter-seat ramen shop.” Underlying this is a long-noted tension in the restaurant industry: at lower-priced establishments especially, how long customers linger directly affects table turnover and revenue, creating a gap between shop owners who’d rather not see extended socializing and customers who feel free to take their time once they’ve paid. Some in the thread also noted that long conversations at counter seats have become more noticeable lately amid the rise in inbound tourists. On the other hand, some argued that dealing with this kind of nuisance behavior should really be up to the restaurant itself — through rules like time limits — and questioned the framing of the post for pinning the blame on individual customers’ good or bad behavior instead.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Geisuta Sokuho+) thread “Ryota Yamasato complains, “Even with people lined up behind them, the field of vision of someone who keeps chatting after finishing their meal must be pretty dangerous in the animal kingdom” — X post draws widespread agreement.”

  • Investment Firm Reportedly Weighing $100 Billion Buyout of Microsoft’s Xbox Business

Reports have emerged that a private equity firm is considering acquiring Microsoft’s Xbox business in a deal worth around $100 billion (roughly ¥15 trillion). On 5ch’s “Hardware/Industry (Geha)” board, skeptical voices piled up questioning whether Xbox alone is really worth that much, sparking debate over whether the valuation includes subsidiary studios like Activision Blizzard and how the breakdown would work. Replies explaining LBOs — a debt-financed acquisition method — for how the buyout funds might be raised also gained traction, while opinions were split on whether Microsoft would actually be willing to let Xbox go.

    Re: #28
EA could use an LBO because it was publicly traded
They issue bonds secured against EA itself — bonds that pay out at high interest if the buyout succeeds, and become worthless paper if it fails
Investors betting that 'the buyout will succeed,' drawn in by the high interest, buy up those bonds, and that's how the acquisition funds get raised
Once the buyout goes through, they merge with EA, sell off its assets piece by piece to cover the bond repayments
Then they run the company going forward with just whatever promising, high-margin divisions are left

Isn't it the Xbox division that's against putting Windows on it, since they'd rather collect the licensing royalties?

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

This report is still only at the stage of “a private equity firm is reportedly considering an acquisition” — it doesn’t mean a deal has been struck or even that negotiations are underway. As posters in the thread point out, when a PE fund takes on a buyout of this scale ($100 billion), it typically relies on an LBO (leveraged buyout) — borrowed money rather than cash on hand — and a recent real-world precedent is the roughly ¥9 trillion raised for the EA acquisition. Most commenters are skeptical that the Xbox brand alone is worth that much, and opinions diverge over whether the valuation includes subsidiary studios (such as Activision Blizzard). The thread also touches on internal friction — reportedly over a push to use a dedicated OS for the Helix handheld instead of Windows, clashing with the Windows division, plus layoffs planned for November and January — cited as background for why sale rumors have surfaced. Worth noting too: Microsoft isn’t short on cash; this is being framed more as a reallocation of resources toward AI investment.

  • 2 Cups of Rice, 4 Raw Eggs, Straight From the Rice Cooker: Guest’s Eating Style on ‘Matsuko’s Unknown World’ Sparks Viewer Backlash

The October 20 episode of ‘Matsuko’s Unknown World’ focused on ‘the world of tamagokake gohan (rice topped with raw egg),’ featuring guest ‘Pupu-san,’ who claims to eat over 1,000 bowls a year. The show depicted her cracking four eggs into two cups of rice and eating straight out of the rice cooker with a serving spoon, and the visuals sparked a wave of disgusted reactions on social media. On 5ch, opinions split between those who shrugged it off as TV theatrics and those raising concerns about health and the eating style itself — with some also bringing up the story that Matsuko herself once admitted to eating the same way in her younger days.

    10/21 (Wed) 14:20

On October 20, the variety show ‘Matsuko’s Unknown World’ (TBS) aired an episode themed around ‘the world of tamagokake gohan.’ However, part of what was shown on the program has sparked controversy.

The episode featured ‘Pupu-san,’ who claims to eat over 1,000 bowls of tamagokake gohan a year, as the guest presenter. She showcased a wide range of ways to dress up the dish, from specialty eggs to pairings with special soy sauces.

Holding a big, heavy rice cooker pot in one hand is surely the less efficient option

Background and Key Points of This Topic

Tamagokake gohan enjoys a certain popularity for its convenience, but the way it was shown here — eaten straight out of the rice cooker — may well be exaggerated for the sake of variety-show-style ‘presentation.’ The idea that raw eggs cause hair loss did come up in the thread, but it remains a folk belief rather than something medically established. There’s also the detail that Matsuko herself has previously admitted to eating this way in the past, which meant thread reactions split not just along lines of disgust toward the guest, but also by how used people are to this kind of televised exaggeration. Big-eater and over-the-top-eating segments often involve character-building or scripting, so it’s worth keeping in mind that what’s shown doesn’t necessarily reflect the guest’s everyday diet.

※This article was compiled and summarized from the 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+) thread ‘2 Cups of Rice, 4 Eggs Dumped Into the Rice Cooker, Eaten Straight From the Pot… Viewers Repulsed by Guest’s Unconventional Eating Style on ‘Matsuko’s Unknown World’.’

On the forum thread, discussion centered on whether holding the event 10 months after joining counts as early or late, with fans also speculating about the timing and venues for fellow 18th-gen members Yasuda, Suzuki, and Ishikawa. Meanwhile, posts comparing the venue’s size to other members’ events drew some pushback, and the topic spread in several directions.

It's been 10 months already, so it's nothing special at all

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

In Hello! Project, it’s become a fan-watched tradition to see when, after joining, a new member gets a fan-club-exclusive “Birthday Event.” Sugihara’s event comes 10 months after her March 2026 debut, and opinions on the thread were split over whether that counts as early or late. There was also a flurry of posts comparing the venue size to other members’ track records, though some argue venue choice reflects year-end scheduling and agency logistics more than a straightforward popularity measure — so judging the situation by venue size alone may be premature.

  • Morning Musume ’26: Oda Sakura’s Graduation Concert to Get Exclusive Live Broadcast on CS TV Asahi Channel 1

It has been announced that Morning Musume ’26’s Oda Sakura graduation concert (December 11, Yokohama Arena) will be exclusively broadcast live on CS TV Asahi Channel 1. In recent years, many Hello! Project specials have aired on Hulu instead, leaving no shortage of fans frustrated that they couldn’t record them. With this concert returning to a TV Asahi broadcast, the thread lit up with welcoming comments like “finally something I can record” and “long live SKY PerfecTV!,” while Juice=Juice and Angerme remain largely stuck with Hulu/streaming-only coverage — sparking discussion about the differing treatment between groups.

TV Asahi was the only one that lumped all three groups together for the summer festival and cut their airtime too — that's basically a threat.

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Hello! Project concert broadcasts have long been the domain of SKY PerfecTV!’s TV Asahi Channel 1, but in recent years more shows have shifted over to Hulu streaming, and fans’ inability to record those broadcasts had become a sore point. In the thread, users noted that starting with this year’s Hina Fest, Hulu moved away from pay-per-view toward an all-you-can-watch subscription plan, leading some to speculate that groups whose past specials hadn’t sold well simply got dropped from Hulu as a result. That said, there’s been no official explanation for why Oda Sakura’s graduation concert returned to TV Asahi, so it’s worth noting this reasoning is purely thread speculation. It’s also still unconfirmed at this point which platform will carry Juice=Juice’s Budokan and PIA Arena shows or Angerme’s broadcasts, and the differing treatment between groups looks set to stay a hot topic.

The discussion was sparked by a scene from Hulu’s “Juice=Juice Summer Camp.” Thread posters went on to compare other members like Yokaze and Nagano Momoko for their own “Michishige vibes,” with some saying “take Sayu and Reina, average them, and you get Kawashima” — while others pushed back, arguing “it wasn’t as similar as I expected” or “Nagano Momoko looks more like her.” Opinions were split.

    Re: #1
Not as similar as I expected
Honestly Nagano Momoko looks more like Michishige Sayumi than this

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Michishige Sayumi served as the leader of Morning Musume. from the late 2000s and was a popular member known for her large dark eyes and distinctive nose bridge. In Hello! Project circles, fans often run comparisons looking for current members who give off a similar “Michishige vibe,” and this time the discussion extended beyond Kawashima to include Yokaze and Nagano Momoko as well. Many thread posters pointed to specific details like eye color and nose shape, and opinions on whether they actually look alike split depending on the poster’s perspective. One user even posted an AI-generated image blending Michishige and Tanaka Reina, though that was more of a side joke than a direct comparison to Kawashima. It’s worth remembering that all of this is just fan speculation, not an official statement from the members themselves or their agency.

※This article is excerpted and summarized from the 5ch (Hello! Project board) thread “[Image] Juice=Juice’s Kawashima Mifu’s side profile is basically Michishige Sayumi wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.”

  • Man United crushed 1-4 by Como, winless in 7 straight — 5ch: ‘I can’t even remember when they were good’

In Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League league phase, Manchester United suffered a crushing 1-4 defeat to Como, who are making their first-ever CL appearance this season. The match got off to a brutal start, conceding the opener just two minutes in, extending United’s winless run in official matches to seven games. On 5ch forum threads, opinions split between those blaming the exodus of key players for the team’s collapse after last season’s strong form, and those arguing that grueling fixtures — barely surviving back-to-back battles with Man City and Arsenal on just six days’ rest — made this season’s fatigue in a congested schedule inevitable. Fans who remember United’s glory days lamented, “They’ve been weak ever since Ferguson left.”

Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) league phase saw Como (Italy) take on Manchester United (England) on the 21st local time, with United falling 1-4. The loss extended their winless streak in official matches to seven in a row, as Michael Carrick’s side continues to struggle.

Stuck in a seven-game winless rut

United had gone winless in their last six official matches (three draws, three losses) and were hoping to turn things around away at Como, who are appearing in the Champions League for the first time this season. But the comeback bid was snuffed out almost immediately — in the 2nd minute, Como midfielder Nico Paz fired in a left-footed shot from the right side to put the hosts ahead. United continued to struggle against the organized pressing and attacking play of Cesc Fàbregas’s side for the rest of the half, unable to create meaningful chances before the break.

He managed a local club, lost constantly, and bailed (lol)

Background and Key Points of Debate

The recurring jab about “cheating” in the thread is a familiar reference to Manchester City’s unresolved case involving numerous alleged breaches of financial regulations — worth noting that this remains unproven, not an established fact. Como, meanwhile, is a resurgent club that successfully restructured financially and returned to Serie A in recent years, with this match marking their long-awaited Champions League debut. The thread’s debate splits between the theory that United’s collapse stems from losing a key defensive player and the theory that fixture congestion and fatigue are to blame — but both are speculation after the fact, and it’s hard to say which factor is decisive until more of the season plays out.

    Nobunaga:
    "Burn it to the ground."

Background and Key Points of This Story

Pranking police boxes and tossing firecrackers at them is a tradition going back to the Showa era; what’s new this time is that the name and method spread and got copied in a short span via social media as “Shaolin Temple Racing.” Interfering with 110 emergency calls may look trivial, but it consumes dispatch and communication resources, and those caught end up with a formal record of being taken into custody or arrested (some in the thread mistakenly read this as being “indicted,” but being taken into custody/arrested and being indicted are separate legal processes). Thread opinion split between those tying this to a bigger narrative of “the collapse of education and the social media environment” and those calling it just an extension of the kind of childhood pranks that have always existed. There was also plenty of drifting off-topic over the origin of the name “Shaolin Temple,” ranging back to the movie Shaolin Temple, Jackie Chan films, and even Kamen Rider — reactions leaned more toward casual chatter than the hard news angle.

  • Expired Driver’s Licenses Reused for Security Surveillance — Kanagawa Police Practice May Have Run for 30 Years

According to reporting by the Mainichi Shimbun, Kanagawa Prefectural Police had been repurposing photos from expired driver’s licenses collected during license renewals, feeding them into a security-division database used to track extremists, right-wing activists, and lone-offender terrorists. The National Police Agency says this is highly likely to violate the Personal Information Protection Act, and has ordered the deletion of the improperly collected data while launching a nationwide survey of other prefectural police forces to check for similar practices. On 5ch, a view tolerating the practice (“if it’s for public safety, so be it”) clashed with criticism (“the law means nothing if police themselves collect data illegally outside its intended purpose”), while many were surprised to learn that license collection and return rules differ by prefecture.

Expired licenses repurposed for security investigations — practice may have been standard at Kanagawa police for 30 years | Mainichi Shimbun

At police stations under Kanagawa Prefectural Police, expired licenses collected during renewal were handed over to the security division, which repurposed the photos of extremists and right-wing figures as investigative material. On the 22nd, the National Police Agency explained that this amounted to using information held for license-administration purposes outside its intended scope, and is highly likely to violate the Personal Information Protection Act. It revealed that it has deleted the improperly collected data and launched a nationwide survey of other prefectural police forces to check for similar practices.

Were ordinary drivers’ records swept up and diverted too?

Honestly, they should just make this legal.
Not for regular people, obviously —
but for terrorists and yakuza? Sure, go ahead.

Even if it'd be better off legal, it's a huge problem if police were doing it knowing it was illegal.

    >pulling out the license itself
If all they needed was the photo, there was no reason to go this far.
    10AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:44
They pulled the licenses of extremist and right-wing activists under investigation, plus lone offenders (LOs) plotting solo terror attacks, and added the photos etc. to the security division's database.

Fine by me, keep doing it.

    It's fine if there's a warrant or it's a voluntary investigation — otherwise it's not.
The real question is whether preemptively collecting personal data before an investigation even starts is allowed, and Japan doesn't clearly permit that.
On the other hand, under Article 197, Paragraph 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, voluntarily submitted investigative information from a voluntary investigation is exempt from the Personal Information Protection Act.
Voluntary investigations do have internal documentation and approval processes within the police, but who's actually targeted and how it's run in practice stays invisible from the outside.

It's for public order, so isn't it fine?
It's for the safety of ordinary citizens.

An illegal investigation basically guarantees acquittal — they won't get a conviction. The evidence won't be admissible.
    42AnonymousOct 22, 2026 10:51
I always thought it was strange that Tokyo punches a hole in your old license and gives it back, while Kanagawa just keeps it. So Kanagawa police really were misusing them after all.

Ah, so that's it — the confiscation isn't optional, it's mandatory?
I figured getting it back was standard everywhere, but I guess it varies by prefecture.

Same here, they punch a hole and return it — but apparently in response to this case the National Police Agency issued a notice saying "return in principle," so it must have varied by police station until now.

There have been cops who used improperly obtained internal police info to stalk women, you know. More than one case, too.

Even for the police, it's now essential to clearly state the reason for collecting data, maintain storage systems matched to that stated purpose, and thoroughly dispose of it once it's no longer needed.

Here in Tokyo where I live, they punch a hole and hand it back to the driver.
I'd guess most prefectures do the same.
But apparently Kanagawa was holding onto them.

Background and key points of debate

Rules for collecting and returning licenses vary by prefecture: Tokyo and others punch a hole in the old license and hand it back at the renewal counter, while Kanagawa kept licenses without returning them at all. The Personal Information Protection Act exempts information submitted for voluntary investigations under Article 197, Paragraph 2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, but whether building a sweeping photo database before any case is even opened falls under that exemption is a separate matter — and the National Police Agency itself treated it as likely misuse, ordering the data deleted and a nationwide survey launched. On the thread, opinions split between “this should be tolerated if it’s for counterterrorism” and “if it’s needed, amend the law first — it’s backwards for the police to just break it instead,” with some critics citing past cases of officers using internal police information to stalk people.
