  • Tokyo Verdy signs hometown agreement with Shibuya Ward — 5ch: ‘Finally a hometown inside the 23 wards, huh’

On October 19, Tokyo Verdy signed a “Basic Agreement on Cooperation for Sports Promotion Toward Realizing an Inclusive Society” with Shibuya Ward, making Shibuya a new hometown of the club. The two parties have a history of cooperating on sports programs for people with disabilities, including para-sports experience classes. The 5ch thread sparked debate over where the club’s actual home base even is — Chofu, Kawasaki, or Tama — and spread into worries about the team sitting at the bottom of the league table, the club’s past decision to turn down a buyout offer from CyberAgent, and its relationship with CyberAgent CEO Susumu Fujita, who owns Machida Zelvia.

Tokyo Verdy announced on October 19 that it had signed a “Basic Agreement on Cooperation for Sports Promotion Toward Realizing an Inclusive Society” with Shibuya Ward.

With this agreement, Shibuya Ward becomes a new hometown of Tokyo Verdy.

Tokyo Verdy and Shibuya Ward have worked together for many years on sports programs for people with disabilities, including para-sports experience classes (Para-Sports Experience Classes | Other Initiatives | Shibuya Ward Portal).

Even if it happened somewhat by circumstance, FC Tokyo ("Gasu") succeeded at being community-rooted out in Tama, so moving into the 23 wards at this point won't make Verdy popular.

Back in the old days, Verdy was a flashy club with nothing to do with "community roots," and that's exactly why it had nationwide popularity.

About five years ago there was a symposium about building a dedicated stadium around the track field in Yoyogi Park, and Saburo Kawabuchi, invited as a guest, commented that Verdy would actually suit that spot better than FC Tokyo ("Gasu").

    Re: #86
Wasn't it just that Tokyo didn't have a stadium and club that met the requirements?

Background and key points of this topic

Under the J.League’s hometown system, a club can sign agreements with multiple municipalities, and it’s not unusual for the ward or city a club designates as its home base to differ from where its office and training facilities actually are. In Tokyo Verdy’s case, the operating company and training ground are located near Yomiuriland in Kawasaki City due to the club’s ties to the Yomiuri Group, while most official matches are played at Ajinomoto Stadium in Chofu City. The thread’s disagreement stems from the gap between this “reality” and the announcement that “Shibuya Ward has become a hometown” — which is why so many posters pointed out that Chofu, Kawasaki, or Tama could each be considered the real home base. The article itself doesn’t mention Verdy’s past rejection of a buyout offer from CyberAgent or the fact that the company later acquired FC Machida Zelvia, but the discussion is easier to follow if read in the context of Verdy searching for new partners to shore up its weak financial footing. It’s also easy to misread the agreement as announcing a new stadium or a relocation of the club’s home base, when in fact it’s simply a cooperative arrangement around things like promoting sports for people with disabilities.

  • Chiikawa Movie Box Office Hits ¥18.1 Billion — Claims It ‘Beat Pokémon’ Draw Pushback

A thread on 5ch’s “Hardware/Industry” (Geha) board claimed that Chiikawa’s popularity has now completely eclipsed Pokémon at its peak. The evidence cited was the box-office run of “Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island,” reportedly sitting at ¥18.1 billion in revenue and 12.42 million admissions as of day 87 (October 18, 2026). That set off a wave of pushback in the thread: even granting that the movie alone outperforms every Pokémon film ever made, Chiikawa still doesn’t come close to matching a true social-phenomenon-scale spread like Pokémon GO, or the overall brand heft once you count games and trading cards. The thread also got into how many more years the Chiikawa brand can realistically keep this up.

Background and Key Points of the Debate

Since Pokémon’s game debut in 1996, its market — once you factor in cards, merchandise, and Pokémon GO — is estimated at several trillion yen annually, and the thread itself noted it’s “a true social phenomenon that reaches people of every age and gender.” Chiikawa, by contrast, is a character born on social media in 2020, and its history as a movie franchise spans only a few years so far. The ¥18.1 billion figure that sparked this discussion does top the best-performing Pokémon film of all time on a single-movie basis (the record holder, Mewtwo Strikes Back, made ¥7.24 billion), but most posters in the thread felt Pokémon still leads once you compare the full brand picture, including games and trading cards. In other words, what’s easy to miss is that the two sides were arguing past each other: one comparing a single movie’s box-office run, the other comparing the cumulative strength of a decades-old brand — different yardsticks entirely. The two franchises also have a collaborative relationship, including a Pokémon Card x Chiikawa crossover, so it isn’t really a simple matter of one ranking above the other.

  • Kuniko Yamada’s ‘Older Men Don’t Function’ Remark Sparks Backlash — ‘If Genders Were Reversed, This Would Be a Firestorm,’ Say Critics

On the October 17 broadcast of Kansai TV’s “Do! The remark came in response to news that divorces among couples married 20+ years had hit a record high. On 5ch (Geinou/Sports News+), the thread drew both criticism — “if the genders were reversed, this would have caused a huge uproar” — and defenses — “men deserve to be told that much” — making the fairness of the gender double standard the central point of debate.

No need to buy into that lame feminist logic
Men and women are different, so naturally what's allowed is different too

Background and Key Points of This Debate

The remark came up in the context of news that late-life divorces among couples married 20+ years had statistically hit a record high, and Kuniko Yamada has long been known on TV for her blunt, outspoken style. The thread repeatedly raised the point that “the same remark wouldn’t be allowed if the genders were reversed,” highlighting how the line of what’s acceptable to say shifts depending on gender — and that different people draw that line in different places. At the same time, some comments frame this as frustration with “a society where putting men down is never treated as a problem,” meaning the real focus of the debate wasn’t so much the remark itself as the double standard in how gender-related speech gets judged — a nuance that’s easy to miss from the quotes alone. It’s also worth noting the show is produced by a local Kansai station, with its broadcast limited to certain regions like Kinki, Kochi, and Hokkaido — a detail that came up in the thread as well.

I looked into how all these recent leak incidents actually happened, and every single one came down to 'the company's fault.' AI has nothing to do with it — attackers can now just scan everything indiscriminately, and it's simply exposing which companies have paper-thin security.
    122AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:50
    Re: #87
Well, AI isn't totally unrelated — thanks to AI, attackers can hit targets indiscriminately with way less effort, and that's exactly what's exposing the companies slacking on security.

Those garbage companies really should just go under, but somehow they'll end up getting bailed out 'for the sake of society'… with our tax money 🤣

Even if what leaks from any single company isn't a big deal on its own, if the same hacker is pulling data from multiple sources, cross-referencing it by name could add up to something serious. Apparently they detected the attack and cut off access.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Unauthorized access targeting brokerages’ online trading systems — resulting in stock trades customers never intended — has been reported at multiple firms since 2025, and some in the thread pointed to past cases of this kind. What Iwai Cosmo Securities emphasized this time is that authentication data such as PINs was not itself leaked, suggesting attackers may have used a different route than the conventional method of stealing IDs and passwords to impersonate users. Opinions in the thread split over whether the main driver behind this rise in attacks is AI-automated hacking or simply insufficient security investment by companies. There were also comments noting that even financial institutions that have adopted passkeys (passwordless authentication via biometrics, etc.) often keep the older password login running in parallel, meaning vulnerabilities can persist unless one method or the other is fully disabled. Note: posts containing ethnic slurs or incitement to violence toward any nationality have been excluded from this article.

  • Family of Truck Driver Killed in Sinkhole Sues Saitama Prefecture: “Sewer Management Was at Fault” — Seeks ¥125 Million in Damages

In the road collapse incident in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture in January 2025, the bereaved family of the truck driver (74 at the time) who fell into the sinkhole and died has filed suit against Saitama Prefecture — which manages the sewer pipes beneath the site — at the Saitama District Court, seeking approximately ¥125 million in damages, the Tokyo Shimbun reports. On the forum thread, opinions were divided over the circumstances in which the wire snapped during the single-point lift attempt to hoist the truck out, the fact that the lawsuit targets the prefecture as sewer administrator rather than the fire department, and the basis for calculating the damages amount.

    Tokyo Shimbun

It has come to light that the family of a male truck driver (74 at the time) who died after his truck fell into a sinkhole in a prefectural road in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture, last January, has filed suit at the Saitama District Court against the prefecture, which manages the sewer pipes beneath the site, seeking approximately ¥125 million in damages.

    Re: #16
Even without degradation, wires commonly get cut by edges.
Also, lifting a load that isn't level is extremely difficult and dangerous —
it's strictly forbidden in normal sling-rigging work (because load slippage and uneven weight distribution can snap the wire and send it flying).

Dodging the hole would mean driving as if you had to avoid every puddle too — that's not realistic.
It's clearly different from an obstacle sitting out in plain sight on the road.

Background and Key Points of This Story

The Yashio City road collapse occurred in January 2025, and an expert panel’s final report in March 2026 rated the fire department’s rescue response as “generally appropriate.” This lawsuit is not about the rescue method itself, but concerns the responsibility of Saitama Prefecture as the administrator of the sewer system that caused the collapse — a distinction some commenters on the thread also pointed out. It’s also worth noting, as background on how local government works, that for a municipality to pay damages it requires budgeting and assembly approval, meaning the damages amount must be fixed through a court ruling rather than simply accepting the family’s asking price — a point touched on in the thread as well. The damages figure is believed to include the market value of the truck itself, so it would be premature to judge whether ¥125 million is excessive based on that number alone.

  • ‘Make Me a Donbei’ Remark Sparks Backlash — 5ch: ‘Asking Then Complaining Is Textbook Moral Harassment’

On Yomiuri TV’s “Monkumon,” a segment featured a popular comedian asking his wife to “make me a Donbei” (instant cup udon), drawing a wave of “moral harassment husband” criticism from co-stars including Chiaki Horan. The scene was originally introduced as a tangent to a discussion about whether it’s okay to boil pasta and retort sauce together, but it snowballed into a full-blown controversy after airing, reportedly leaving the comedian himself stunned by the scale of the backlash. On 5ch’s Geinou Sports Express+ thread, opinion split right down the middle: some argued “just asking isn’t moral harassment,” while others countered “making her make it AND complaining about the taste or temperature is indefensible.”

Is asking your wife to “make me a Donbei” (instant cup udon noodles) moral harassment? A trivial everyday request has blown up into a full-on debate.

“This happened on the October 18 broadcast of ‘Monkumon’ (Yomiuri TV). The topic that day was whether it bothers you to boil pasta together with retort sauce. Background and the Debate

What the show depicted was an everyday slice of household life, but the term “moral harassment” itself refers to psychological domination through words and attitude, and has no fixed legal definition. That’s why opinions in the thread split over whether “simply asking” is enough to warrant criticism, or whether judgment should hinge on the fuller picture — “making her make it, then complaining about the taste and temperature.” Some also pushed back against the one-sided pile-on from co-stars, arguing that outsiders with no knowledge of the couple’s actual relationship weighing in is itself a form of harassment. In the end, this incident has become less about the comedian’s request and more about how loosely the term “moral harassment” itself gets thrown around.

    Re: #66
Probably because it wouldn't pull good numbers
They'd get better ratings airing it on a different day

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

“Tsukkomi Star” is a Fuji TV special centered on Shimofuri Myojo’s Soshina, in which performers compete on their skill at “tsukkomi” (the comedic straight-man retort). Opinions on past broadcasts remain split within the thread. Regarding this announcement, speculation spread on the thread that he rushed to reveal it via YouTube livestream because a sports tabloid was about to publish an article first — but this theory never rises above hearsay, and there has been no official explanation from Soshina himself or the show’s production side. It was also pointed out that this is a separate matter, timing-wise, from another topic about Soshina supposedly “warning” Sponichi, though the thread never fully sorted the two apart and they remained tangled together. New Year’s Eve specials are a ratings battleground for every network, and prediction wars based on past programming track records were also one of the thread’s central themes.

  • Multiple E-Comic Services Crash, Leaving Readers Locked Out of Books They Already Paid For

A string of outages has hit e-comic services, leaving readers unable to access titles they’d already purchased. The thread calls out Comic Shomoa and Renta by name, with Shomoa reportedly having “no estimated time for recovery yet.” It also came out that Shomoa had revised its terms of service right before going into maintenance, drawing cries of “that’s awful” from users. Meanwhile DLsite and Kindle reportedly came through unscathed, sparking a mix of “the biggest platforms are the safe bet” and “if even Kindle isn’t safe, nothing is.” Some pointed out the deeper issue: e-books are really just a rental in disguise.

There are too many barriers to putting out physical manga volumes.

    96AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:30
    Re: #94
    That's way too idealistic

Background and key points of this discussion

Strictly speaking, buying an e-book isn’t really “purchasing data” so much as “renting the right to read it,” and the risk that purchased titles become unreadable when a service suffers an outage or shuts down has been flagged for some time. The thread’s reference to “Kadokawa already screwed up before” appears to point to the 2024 incident in which the KADOKAWA Group was hit by a cyberattack that knocked out BOOKWALKER and other services for an extended period. Many users had relied on Comic Shomoa precisely because it’s run under the NTT Group (operated by NTT Solmare) and felt reassuring — this outage shook that assumption. The thread saw praise for publisher-run official apps and independent stores, along with calls to consolidate the glut of competing manga apps, while the suggestion that “since the rights holders are the same, purchased data should be readable through any store” drew pushback as “too idealistic,” leaving the debate unresolved. It’s also worth noting that no industry-wide framework currently guarantees readers’ continued access to content they’ve already bought, which means outages like this remain a structural problem that could easily recur.

  • Laplus Sent Explicit Photo via DM, Agency Explains — 5ch: “You Can’t Drop This Bombshell After the Fact”

On October 17, 2026, Hololive talent Laplus Darkness sparked a reaction with a post on X expressing her refusal of sexual harassment. Her talent agency, Cover Corporation, explained that the post stemmed from sexually explicit images of exposed genitals being sent to her account without consent, and revealed that she posted impulsively because similar incidents had happened before. On 5ch, discussion centered on backlash over the post appearing to be aimed at listeners as a whole, and on the contradiction of how the images reached her account at all, given that her DMs were supposedly closed.

Thank you for your continued support of hololive production.

We have received a great deal of feedback regarding the post made by our talent, Laplus Darkness, on X on October 17, 2026. We would like to explain the circumstances that led to this post and our company’s response.

Regarding the circumstances behind this post, after speaking with the talent directly, we confirmed that sexually explicit images showing exposed genitals had been sent to Laplus Darkness’s account without her consent. We also understand that, since similar incidents had occurred in the past, she posted impulsively in order to firmly express her refusal of such sexual harassment.

She hasn't deleted the tweet though, so it's not a loss yet

Background and Key Points of This Discussion

Among VTuber agencies like Hololive, it has become increasingly common for official statements to lay out a response policy toward slander or sexual harassment directed at talents, and Cover Corporation’s explanation here is one such example. Where opinions in the thread split was over the fact that her post appeared to be aimed even at “ordinary listeners who had simply left a horny comment.” As for how the image reached her despite her DMs reportedly being closed to everyone but mutual followers, multiple theories were floated — such as it being sent via a sub-account — but the agency offered no concrete explanation, leaving the matter unresolved. Neither the sender’s identity nor further details of the incident have been officially disclosed. The thread also saw opinions that sending unsolicited explicit images should itself be legally regulated, reflecting a pattern of similar incidents repeatedly becoming a talking point around VTubers.

    Re: #1
I was really looking forward to Tsubaki Factory's once-a-year Halloween stream, and they go and announce it 10 minutes before it starts so I couldn't even catch it. Pathetic, right?
    5AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:42
They're in the middle of serious rehearsals this year, so cut them some slack.
    12AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:50
Not even leaving an archive up — that's just cheap lol
    13AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:51
Doigo-Katayu kind of hinted at it in her blog yesterday though (member nickname)
    14AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:51
They must've had at least a week to prepare and the date was already set, so why couldn't they announce it ahead of time?
Even announcing it the night before would already feel late, honestly.
    15AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:51
What's with all the vague hinting?
Just announce it properly, that's all anyone's asking.
    16AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:51
Guess they didn't want to work overtime — slapped it together and it ended just as half-heartedly.
At this rate just post a recorded video instead of livestreaming.
    17AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:51
This is exactly why they're struggling to fill seats at Budokan lol
    19AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:53
Groups that don't sell have reasons they don't sell.
    65AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:27
    Re: #19
Honestly can't deny the pattern lately.
They don't want to sell their "ai-un-en-on" charm (lit. "love, fortune, bonds, gratitude" — a coined phrase for the group's appeal)
They don't want Budokan to succeed either.
You can really feel that intent coming from the staff.
    20AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:54
I'd love it if they did the release events with zero advance notice too lol
    21AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:54
Tanimoto, explain how this situation happened.
    22AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:55
On top of that, leader Tanimoto couldn't make it in time and missed the stream entirely.
No warning so fans couldn't watch, and now no leader either — some Halloween stream lol

    That's 9 minutes before, not 10.
    26AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:57
The members put in all this effort and the manager doesn't feel bad about it at all?
Well, the members not announcing it themselves share some blame too,
but if they'd really wanted to, they could've updated their Stories ahead of time.
    50AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:13
    Re: #26
There's a chance the info just hadn't been cleared for release yet.
    Typical of Tsubaki's management, though.
    28AnonymousOct 20, 2026 22:58
    > Everyone's gathered today 😊
Except not everyone actually showed up.
    31AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:00
Tsubaki's just not the type of group that cares about viewer counts.
    32AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:00
On top of that it started a bit late and wrapped up almost immediately.
    34AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:02
Such a waste, since the members' costumes were actually really elaborate.
    35AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:03
How many concurrent viewers were there?
Given the time slot, you'd probably miss it if you were eating dinner.
    36AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:03
BEYOOOOONDS ("Biyo") also got hit with a same-day livestream notice for their Yokohama Arena show.
Why can't they plan these things properly?
Even for "Rosy," they scrambled to round up whoever happened to be free that day — way too sloppy.
    37AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:04
It was a slapped-together stream, not really worth going out of your way for.
    38AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:04
If you're gonna slap it together, don't do it right before Budokan.
Though I guess it's probably just a "while Mao-pin's still around" kind of thing.
    39AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:04
If this were some spur-of-the-moment stream, fine, but it's an annual tradition — they should've had plenty of time to prepare.
Announcing it 10 minutes beforehand is just too much.
    40AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:06
They clearly went all out on the costumes though.
That alone makes it worth watching.
    41AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:06
Everyone except Juice=Juice has free time, right?
Make a plan and announce it properly — feel bad for the members.
    42AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:06
Tsubaki's apparently in the middle of a campaign to push their own fans toward other groups.
    45AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:10
They prepped that much and it's such a waste.
    54AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:14
Still, something like 1,000 people were watching on Instagram.
    59AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:17
    Re: #54
Peak was around 980, I think.
Always right on the edge of four digits but never quite getting there — that's Tsubaki Factory for you.
    57AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:15

    70AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:29
But somehow Budokan still ends up decently full anyway, which is exactly why management keeps pulling this fan-disrespecting stuff.
    76AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:32
    Re: #70
Disrespecting the fans is one thing, but this just dumps extra burden on the members for zero payoff.
It's a burden on the hardworking on-site staff too.

Either skip it entirely, or if you're going to do it, do it properly.
    82AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:34
Was there a birthday segment for Lesser?
If so, her fans are the ones who really got shortchanged here.
    89AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:38
    Re: #82
There was — they handed her something, I think.
It went by so fast I barely remember it.
    92AnonymousOct 20, 2026 23:41
I'd like to see all the costumes properly, but no archive, huh.
This was all I could find on Instagram.

Background and Key Points of the Discussion

Tsubaki Factory has an upcoming Budokan concert, and much of the thread’s criticism ties back to anxiety over ticket sales and the group’s overall management. While opinions on the stream’s actual content (the members’ costumes, Lesser’s birthday segment) were split, the main point of contention centered on the lack of preparation: why an announcement for a date the staff surely knew in advance ended up going out just 10 minutes before the stream started. Commenters noted that similarly last-minute announcements have happened with other Hello! Project-affiliated groups, suggesting this wasn’t a one-off but part of a broader frustration with how the management operates overall. One reply even pointed to another group within Hello! Project that announced a livestream for its Yokohama Arena concert only on the day of the show, hinting that the staff’s social media operations may be habitually reactive rather than planned ahead. The specific reason Tanimoto missed the stream, and how the reported peak of 980 concurrent Instagram viewers was tallied, were never clarified in the thread.
